Persistent free radicals in humin under redox conditions and their impact in transforming polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

The role of humic substance-associated persistent free radicals(PFRs)in the fate of organic contaminants under various redox conditions remains *** study examined the characterization of original metal-free peat humin(HM),and HM treated with varying concentrations of H2O2 and L-ascorbic acid(VC)(assigned as H2O2-HM and VC-HM).The concentration of PFRs in HM increased with the addition of VC/H2O2 at concentrations less than 0.08 mol/*** evolution of PFRs in HM under different environmental conditions(e.g.,oxic/anoxic and humidity)was *** types of PFRs were detected in HM:a relatively stable radical existed in the original sample,and the other type,which was generated by redox treatments,wa s relatively *** spin densities of VC/H2O2-HM readily returned to the original value under relatively high humidity and oxic *** this process,the HM-associated"unstable"free radicals released an electron to O2,inducing the formation of reactive oxygen species(ROS,i.e.,·OH and·O2-).Th e generated ROS promoted the degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons based on the radical quenching *** transformation rates followed the order naphthalene>phenanthrene>anthracene>benzo[a]*** results provide valuable insight into the HM-induced transformation of organic contaminants under natural conditions.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have been recognized as one of the biggest public health issues of the 21 st century. Both ARB and ARGs have been determined in water after treatment with conventional disinfectants. Ultraviolet (UV) technology has been seen growth in application to disinfect the water. However, UV method alone is not adequate to degrade ARGs in water. Researchers are investigating the combination of UV with other oxidants (chlorine, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), peroxymonosulfate (PMS), and photocatalysts) to harness the high reactivity of produced reactive species (C1-, C1O -, Cl2-,-OH, and SO4-_) in such processes with constituents of cell (e.g., deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and its components) in order to increase the degradation efficiency of ARGs. This paper briefly reviews the current status of different UV-based treatments (UV/chlorination, UV/H2O2, UV/PMS, and UV-photocatalysis) to degrade ARGs and to control horizontal gene transfer (HGT) in water. The review also provides discussion on the mechanism of degradation of ARGs and application of q-PCR and gel electrophoresis to obtain insights of the fate of ARGs during UV-based treatment processes.

Nowadays, the international academic community and the public regard both antibiotics and antibiotic resistance bacteria/genes as emerging contaminants. These contaminants are increasing to pose severe threats to human health and to the sustainable development of livestock production. In 2014, World Health Organization (WHO) issued "antimicrobial resistance global report on surveillance". The report seriously pointed it out that "in a post-antibiotic era-in which common infections and minor injuries can kill-far from being an apocalyptic fantasy, is instead a very real possibility for the 21st century".

Nitrogen Impact on Morpho-physiological Traits and Yield of Indian Mustard (Brassica juncea) Genotypes

Nitrogen(N)management is crucial in cropping systems,and it is often difficult to strike a balance for normal physiology within human consumption *** experiment was conducted on 48 genotypes of Brassica juncea during two crop seasons with two N levels(N deficient(N0)and with fertilization(N100)).Leaf area revealed variability in the light harvesting capacity of genotypes manifested in terms of leaf area index(LAI),chlorophyll,photosynthetic active radiation(PAR)interception which were reduced under *** crop growth and development,chlorophyll content and LAI were the highest at 90 days after sowing(DAS)whereas PAR interception by the genotypes was the highest at 60 *** analysis of photochemical efficiency indicated minor photoinhibition under fertilized conditions as values ranged from 0.708-0.775 with a mean of ***,under unfertilized conditions(N0),values were much lower(0.677-0.744,mean 0.706)indicating more damage to photosystem Ⅱ(PSⅡ).Photosystem activity(Fv/Fm)of PSII improved by 13.3%and electron transport rate(ETR)by 45.9%with N *** abilities and performance of MCP632,PBR 357,JT-152-1 and ELM 151 were better under unfertilized condition(N0)and with N-application at 100 kg/ha yield improved though less than 10%in these *** rest of the genotypes were responsive to N application.

目的回顾关于质子泵抑制剂治疗溃疡出血患者的随机对照研究,确定该治疗对于死亡率、再出血和外科干预措施的影响。设计系统评价和汇总分析。资料来源包括Cochrane协作网的临床试验注册库、Medline、Embase、手工检索的和制药公司。评价方法在经内镜证实存在溃疡出血并至少有以下事件之一——死亡、再出血、外科干预的患者中,进行随机对照研究,比较质子泵抑制剂与安慰剂或H2受体拮抗剂的疗效。所有临床试验依据方法学质量来进行分级。由2个评定者独立回顾每个临床试验,将分歧按照多数人的意见来统一。结果我们选出了21项随机对照研究,包括2915例患者。质子泵抑制剂治疗对于死亡率没有显著影响[比值比1.11,95%可信区间0.79～1.57;需要治疗的人数(NNT)无法计算]。但是质子泵抑制剂可以降低再出血的发生(0.46,0.33～0.64;NNT为12)和外科治疗的比例(0.59,0.46～0.76;NNT为20)。对其中10项具有高质量方法学的临床试验进行汇总分析,得到相似的结论死亡率的OR值为0.96(0.46～2.01);再出血的OR值为0.41(0.25～0.68),NNT为10;外科手术的OR值为0.62(0.46～0.83),NNT为25。结论质子泵抑制剂的治疗可以降低溃疡的再出血风险,减少对外科手术的需要,但患者的总体死亡率没有改善。

Nitrogen(N)assimilation is a wide pathway in plants because of its fundamental importance for growth and *** transport,assimilation and recycling of nitrogen is a highly complex and regulated process,as it is the mineral nutrient that is required in great abundance by the *** approach to enhance agriculture sustainability is dependent on exploration of the elite germplasm where new cultivars could perform better even under low *** test the effect of nitrogen levels at 100 and 125 kg ha-1 on photosynthetic pigments and N assimilation in oilseed rape(*** L.)canola variety GSC-7 and hybrid Hyola PAC 401 were selected for comparison with new hybrid PGSH-52 in pipeline.N assimilating enzymes were assayed at vegetative,flowering and siliquing stages of crop growth to visualise the impact of N on the *** assimilating enzymes were highest at flowering stage and enhanced with increased N *** reductase(NR)activity improved by 11.5%,nitrite reductase(NiR)by 24.2%,glutamine synthetase(GS)by 12.2%and glutamate synthase(GOGAT)by 35.2%over recommended N dose(N100)at flowering *** PAC 401 registered maximum enzymatic activities trailed by GSC-7 at all the three stages of crop *** existed within the genotypes for photosynthetic pigments which varied with N *** a,chlorophyll b,total chlorophyll and carotenoids increased with nitrogen at 125 kg N ha^(-1)whereas chlorophyll a/b declined at three stages of crop *** flowering total chlorophyll and carotenoids were maximum and enhanced by 12.8%and 5%respectively with higher nitrogen level.
