Araucaria angustifolia is the dominant coniferous species in Brazil,a long-lived pioneer species and a supplier of valuable timber and non-timber products,which gives it key-species *** study examines how *** population structure affects the stand structure,and whether these relationships differ between protected and unprotected *** study was carried out on two protection status forests(national forest and urban forest)in a region of Atlantic mixed forest in ParanáState,southern *** coefficient and the Weibull shape parameter described the population structure and its effects on species diversity and biomass *** diameter distribution differed significantly between forests,with unbalanced structure in both,although regeneration was more abundant in the protected *** positively affected aboveground biomass whereas shape negatively affected it and species *** relationships differed between protected and unprotected *** effect of *** populations on stand structure was conditioned on protection ***-growth populations may have lower diversity and biomass stock even supporting large ***,old-growth forests,can lead to wood loss through mortality,senescence,and declining populations,representing the waste of a valuable timber *** findings provide useful knowledge for forest management,species conservation,and the carbon market.

Elastic Aerogels of Cellulose Nanofibers@Metal–Organic Frameworks for Thermal Insulation and Fire Retardancy

Metal–organic frameworks(MOFs)with high microporosity and relatively high thermal stability are potential thermal insulation and flame-retardant ***,the difficulties in processing and shaping MOFs have largely hampered their applications in these *** study outlines the fabrication of hybrid CNF@MOF aerogels by a stepwise assembly approach involving the coating and cross-linking of cellulose nanofibers(CNFs)with continuous nanolayers of *** cross-linking gives the aerogels high mechanical strength but superelasticity(80%maximum recoverable strain,high specific compression modulus of^200 MPa cm3 g−1,and specific stress of^100 MPa cm3 g−1).The resultant lightweight aerogels have a cellular network structure and hierarchical porosity,which render the aerogels with relatively low thermal conductivity of^40 mW m−1 K−*** hydrophobic,thermally stable MOF nanolayers wrapped around the CNFs result in good moisture resistance and fire *** study demonstrates that MOFs can be used as efficient thermal insulation and flame-retardant *** presents a pathway for the design of thermally insulating,superelastic fire-retardant nanocomposites based on MOFs and nanocellulose.

Movement behaviors and their association with depressive symptoms in Brazilian adolescents:A cross-sectional study

Background:Physical activity,sleep,and sedentary behaviors compose 24-h movement behaviors and have been independently associated with depressive ***,it is not clear whether it is the movement behavior itself or other contextual factors that are related to depressive *** objective of the present study was to examine the associations between self-reported and accelerometer-measured movement behaviors and depressive symptoms in ***:Cross-sectional data from 610 adolescents(14-18 years old)were *** answered questions from the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale and reported time spent watching videos,playing videogames,using social media,time spent in various physical activities,and daytime ***-worn accelerometers were used to measure sleep duration,sleep efficiency,sedentary time,and physical ***-effects logistic regressions were ***:Almost half of the adolescents(48%)were classified as being at high risk for depression(score≥20).No significant associations were found between depressive symptoms and accelerometer-measured movement behaviors,self-reported non-sport physical activity,watching videos,and playing ***,higher levels of self-reported total physical activity(odd ratio(OR)=0.92,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.86-0.98)and volume of sports(OR=0.88,95%CI:0.79-0.97),in minutes,were associated with a lower risk of depression,while using social media for either 2.0-3.9 h/day(OR=1.77,95%CI:1.58-2.70)or>3.9 h/day(OR=1.67,95%CI:1.10-2.54),as well as higher levels of daytime sleepiness(OR=1.17,95%CI:1.12-1.22),were associated with a higher risk of ***:What adolescents do when they are active or sedentary may be more important than the time spent in the movement behaviors because it relates to depressive *** daytime sleepiness,promoting sports,and limiting social media use may benefit adolescents.

Moving bed biofilm reactors(MBBR)are equipment used to remove organic compounds and are frequently tested for aquaculture operations aimed at treating and reusing ***,a limitation of MBBR is the long maturation period necessary for nitrification to occur *** evaluated biofilm maturation in MBBR with biomass adhered to support material using enriched medium-NH_(4)Cl and a treatment without *** independent recirculating aquaculture systems were established based on a freshwater fish farm that produced a daily total ammonia nitrogen concentration of 1.0 mg/*** treatment was composed of a reservoir and two experimental bioreactors that received support materials for the colonization of the adhered *** results indicated that the enriched bioreactors performed slower,taking 29 days to reach maturity,while the control treatment matured at 27 *** species Candidatus Nitrospira defluvii,responsible for acting in the nitrification process became more abundant in the control treatment where it represented 23%of the biofilm composition,while the enriched treatment presented only 3%.The results suggest that the nitrification process in the control treatment performed better than in the enriched ***,the use of synthetic media such as NH_(4)Cl and sodium acetate as sources of C:N associated with the Pimelodus maculatus effluent during the start-up process had an important benefit to the maturation time of both bioreactors.

A Forest Growth Dynamic Indicator

The dynamics of forest growth are related to the succession stage, the quality of the environment and the degree of anthropism. The growth of a forest is given by the activity of live trees, mortality, and trees that are cut or recruited during the growing period. A way of representing the growth dynamics of a forest is by the Transition Matrix, with the divisibility of the population in states, with probabilities of movement from one state to another, over time. Forest dynamics studies are carried out by means of a continuous forest inventory, allowing the calculation of gains and losses in basal area, mortality rates and ingrowth. In this study, the measurements were performed with a 5-year interval, on 27 plots distributed in 12 sites. The methodology correlated parameters of the forest dynamics with canopy, soil, relief and hydrographic parameters. An indicator of forest growth dynamics was proposed and it was tested. It was confirmed that the density factor interferes in growth dynamics of the forest.

Facilities Planning for a Creative Company

Facilities planning tools have been used by project managers for planning industry spaces for decades now, but applications in creative organizations are still sparse. This happens mainly because of a gap that exists between engineering and psychology fields, with the first developing planning tools for production but with little concern for creativity and the other developing spaces for creativity, but with a lack of tools. Both try to solve the same issue： fostering productivity in the workplace, but they need to be linked first, in order to accomplish it. How to close this gap？ Can a project manager plan the facilities for a creative organizational in the best way possible？ In this paper, a new approach is used for studying the design of physical environments that foster organizational creativity, combining the results of psychological studies on the impact of physical environment on creativity with the facilities planning body of knowledge applied by industrial engineers. In order to test the results, a single case study is developed in a small IT consulting firm. By using the systematic layout planning （SLP） step by step process, it is shown that by acting on the work environment of the company, the developers creative processes can be boosted and facilitated. It is also shown that both industrial engineering and creativity research have much to contribute to each other and future research topics in the field are presented.

The aim of the current study was to determine the nature of the seasonal variability of the Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM) fluxes from the drainage basin to the estuary in a macrotidal region(Northeastern Brazil),and the estuarine response to a seawater intrusion regarding sediment deposition,which will support the understanding of the global transport of materials at the continent-ocean *** structure data was acquired using a Conductivity,Temperature,and Depth(CTD) probe with a sampling frequency of 4 *** particulate material was measured by gravimetric measurements applied to exact filtered volume *** outflows were measured through the use of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) with frequency of 1.5 *** horizontal thermal and saline gradients varied from warmer and less saline waters(2014) to cooler and saline waters(2015).The gradient behavior when linked to volume transport and SPM flows,suggests a minimization of the fluvial flows in 2015,easing the advance of coastal water(CW) towards the inner estuary,leading to an inversion of the baroclinic pressure *** bottom saline front,generated by the entrance of coastal water masses,caused an increase in SPM concentrations due to increased fluid density,resuspension of previously deposited sediment,and erosion of *** concentrations of SPM indicate higher volume transport suggesting a hydraulic barrier due to the change/inversion of the baroclinic pressure gradient,resulting in water and material *** deposition was observed during neap tide,while during spring tide the material is resuspended,increasing the concentration,generating cycles of deposition and erosion during the neap-spring *** sediment in suspension that reach the estuary,even with low fluvial volume,stay in this environment forming new islands because of *** deposition rates or sediment cycling,if generated by the hydraulic barrier,may indicate that the flo

Analysis of the Bovespa Futures and Spot Indexes With High Frequency Data

Data from the World Federation of Exchanges show that Brazil＇s Sao Paulo stock exchange is one of the largest worldwide in terms of market value. Thus, the objective of this study is to obtain univariate and bivariate forecasting models based on intraday data from the futures and spot markets of the BOVESPA index. The interest is to verify if there exist arbitrage opportunities in Brazilian financial market. To this end, three econometric forecasting models were built： ARFIMA, vector autoregressive （VAR）, and vector error correction （VEC）. Furthermore, it presents the results of a Granger causality test for the aforementioned series. This type of study shows that it is important to identify arbitrage opportunities in financial markets and, in particular, in the application of these models on data of this nature. In terms of the forecasts made with these models, VEC showed better results. The causality test shows that futures BOVESPA index Granger causes spot BOVESPA index. This result may indicate arbitrage opportunities in Brazil.

Evolution of the Maturation Point of Wine Grapes Intended for Juice Processing

Rainy years especially in the ripening period end up weakening grape quality, thus making it unsatisfactory for winemaking. The possibility of using wine grape varieties in the preparation of juices presents an alternative to the grapes that do not reach ideal harvest for winemaking. Assuming that the preparation of juice from wine grapes can be an alternative to these grapes which in harvests are considered poor for winemaking and can be harvested in advance, thus preventing losses from late cycle disease and excessive spending on phytosanitary treatments, the present study aimed to evaluate the juices made from “Cabernet Sauvignon”，“Merlot” and “Chardonnay” grapes harvested at different points of maturation, and subsequently compare with current legislation. Physicochemical analysis of titratable acidity (TA), soluble solids (SS), relative density, total sugar, alcohol, volatile acidity and SS/TA ratio was carried out on the juices produced at three sampling points (15, 17 and 19 °Brix). The results showed variability between treatment factors (cultivars and points of maturation). Analyses of titratable acidity, soluble solids, SS/TA ratio, relative density, total sugars and volatile acidity showed significance for the interaction between the tested treatment factors. For the variable alcohol, there was no significance for the effect of variety, maturation stage or the interaction between the factors of treatment. It was concluded that Cabernet Sauvignon juice met the parameters set by law at 17 °Brix, while Chardonnay and Merlot juices showed consistent results only at harvest point 19 °Brix.

Physiological and Biochemical Characterization of JilóSeeds (Solanum gilo) in Different Harvest Times

The evaluation of seed quality during the development process is important for the definition of the moment of harvest. In this context, the objective in this study was to evaluate the quality of Jiló seeds during development through physiological, biochemical and electrophoretic tests of enzymes. Six genetic materials, JIL white, JIL 001, JIL 005, JIL 006, H1 and H2 were used. Fruits were harvested at 35, 40, 45 days after anthesis (DAA). A total of 50% of all fruits harvested at 45 DAA remained at rest for seven days which were labeled as 45 DAAr. The seeds at each maturation stage were extracted from the fruits and evaluated by water content, weight of one thousand seeds, electric conductivity, germination, germination speed index, seedling emergence, and seedling emergence rate index. The chemical composition of the seeds was also evaluated, as well as the expression of the enzymes esterase, isocitrate lyase, malate dehydrogenase, alcohol dehydrogenase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, peroxidase and endo-β-mannanase. The highest values of germination and vigor were found in seeds harvested at 45 DAA and 45 DAAr, mainly for hybrids H1 and H2. The highest values of lipids and proteins and lower carbohydrates were found in the most immature seeds of Jiló. The enzymes analyzed showed higher expression in the initial stages of development, however reduced with the advancement of the maturation stage. Endo-β-mannanase expression increased with seed development. Jiló seeds harvested at 45 DAAr presented the highest of germination and vigor values. This “being” considered as the ideal harvest point.
