Maximizing biomass utilization: An integrated strategy for coproducing multiple chemicals

Lignocellulosic biomass is one of the viable solutions to alleviate the global warming. However, the limited utilization of biomass majorly focused on cellulose and hemicellulose restricts the economic and environmental feasibilities. To cope with this issue, we proposed an integrated process of co-producing 1,6-hexanediol（1,6-HDO） with tetrahydrofuran and adipic acid from biomass, referred to as Strategy A. To compare the impacts of lignin upgrading and feedstock, Strategy B, which co-produces tetrahydrofuran alone, and Strategy C, which is the traditional route to produce 1,6-HDO from fossil fuels, were used. Heat networks are also designed to reduce operating costs and indirect carbon emissions due to energy consumption, saving 87% and 83% of the heat and cooling requirements, respectively, in Strategy A. The market competitiveness of Strategy A was evaluated by determining the minimum selling price through techno-economic analysis, and sustainability was thoroughly investigated by quantifying the environmental impacts through both midpoint and endpoint life-cycle assessments（LCAs）.Strategy A was found to be the most favorable both economically（USRDSCHARDOLLAR3,402/ton） and environmentally（-26.9 kg CO2eq.）. This indicates that lignin valorization is not only economically but also environmentally preferred. Finally, changes in economic and environmental feasibilities depending on economic, process, and environmental parameters were investigated using sensitivity and uncertainty analyses. The results of these analyses provide valuable insight into bio-based chemical production.

Provably secure authentication protocol for traffic exchanges in unmanned aerial vehicles

Unmanned aerial vehicles offer services such as military reconnaissance in potentially adversarial controlled *** addition,they have been deployed in civilian critical infrastructure *** this environment,real-time and massive data is exchanged between the aerial vehicles and the ground control *** on the mission of these aerial vehicles,some of the collected and transmitted data is sensitive and ***,many security protocols have been presented to offer privacy and security ***,majority of these schemes fail to consider attack vectors such as side-channeling,de-synchronization and known secret session temporary information *** last attack can be launched upon adversarial physical capture of these *** addition,some of these protocols deploy computationally intensive asymmetric cryptographic primitives that result in high *** this paper,an authentication protocol based on lightweight quadratic residues and hash functions is *** formal security analysis is executed using the widely deployed random oracle *** addition,informal security analysis is carried out to show its robustness under the Dolev–Yao(DY)and Canetti–Krawczyk(CK)threat *** terms of operational efficiency,it is shown to have relatively lower execution time,communication costs,and incurs the least storage costs among other related ***,the proposed protocol provides a 25%improvement in supported security and privacy features and a 6.52%reduction in storage *** overall,the proposed methodology offers strong security and privacy protection at lower execution time,storage and communication overheads.

Post-analysis simulation of the collapse of an open sabo dam of steel pipes subjected to boulder laden debris flow

The objective of the proposed method is to utilize a site investigation of a debris flow disaster and verify a real scale analysis to evaluate the impulsive load on an open sabo *** Nagiso debris flow disaster which occurred in Nagano in 2014,where damage caused by Typhoon Neogri was *** verification result of the site investigation demonstrated the weak components of the open Sabo dam experienced damage owing to the debris flow.A discrete element method is normally applied to a solid body to calculate an interaction function force with respect to the contact point between boulders and the *** numerical method initially concatenates elements that model the open Sabo ***,the stiffness coefficient of flanges and coupling joints between pipes was expressed to utilize the sectional partition method to determine the structural *** method was improved to separate from the connecting elements beyond the boundary *** debris flow model uses a water flow distribution model,and the debris flow flowed from 200m upstream of the open sabo ***,the proposed method was examined to verify the primary cause of damage to the open sabo dam and used to reproduce the circumstances that evaluated the impulsive load occurrence mechanism in the case of a real *** addition,the coupling joints between the hollow steel pipes utilized a’reproduction analysis’ for a real sabo dam and a‘reinforced analysis’ for a reinforced sabo dam were applied to assess the weak point of the dam.

Bistability in Coupled Oscillators Exhibiting Synchronized Dynamics

We report some new results associated with the synchronization behavior of two coupled double-well Duffing oscillators （DDOs）. Some sufficient algebraic criteria for global chaos synchronization of the drive and response DDOs via linear state error feedback control are obtained by means of Lyapunov stability theory. The synchronization is achieved through a bistable state in which a periodic attractor co-exists with a chaotic attractor. Using the linear perturbation analysis, the prevalence of attractors in parameter space and the associated bifurcations are examined. Subcritical and supercritical Hopf bifurcations and abundance of Arnold tongues -- a signature of mode locking phenomenon are found.

In this work, nitrogen-doped cobalt nanoparticlesinitrogen-doped plate-like ordered mesoporous carbons (N/Co/OMCs) were used as noble-metal free electrocatalysts with high catalytic efficiency. Compared with OMCs with long channel length, due to more entrances for catalytic target accessibility and a short pathway for rapid diffusion, the utilization efficiency of cobalt nanoparticles inside the plate-like OMCs with short pore length is well improved, which can take full advantage of porous structure in electrocatalysis and increase the utilization of catalysts. The active sites in N/Co/OMCs for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are highly exposed to oxygen molecule, which results in a high activity for ORR. By combination of the catalytic properties of nitrogen dopant, incorporation of Co nanoparticles, and structural properties of OMCs, the N/Co/plate-like OMCs are highly active noble-metal free catalysts for ORR in alkaline solution. AIM:To examine effects of chronic methadone usage on bowel visualization,preparation,and repeat ***:In-patient colonoscopy reports from October,2004 to May,2009 for methadone dependent(MD) patients were retrospectively evaluated and compared to matched opioid naive controls(C).Strict criteria were applied to exclude patients with risk factors known to cause constipation or gastric *** reports of all eligible patients were analyzed for degree of bowel visualization,assessment of bowel preparation(good,fair,or poor),and whether a repeat colonoscopy was *** visualization was scored on a 4 point scale based on multiple prior studies:excellent = 1,good = 2,fair = 3,or poor = *** of variance(ANOVA) and Pearson χ 2 test were used for data *** analysis included correlation between methadone dose and colonoscopy *** variables significantly differing between MD and C groups were included in both univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses.P values were two sided,and < 0.05 were considered statistically ***:After applying exclusionary criteria,a total of 178 MD patients and 115 C patients underwent a colonoscopy during the designated study period.A total of 67 colonoscopy reports for MD patients and 72 for C were included for data *** and gender matched controls were randomly selected from this population to serve as controls in a numerically comparable *** average age for MD patients was 52.2 ± 9.2 years(range:32-72 years) years compared to 54.6 ± 15.5 years(range:20-81 years) for C(P = 0.27).Sixty nine percent of patients in MD and 65% in C group were males(P = 0.67).When evaluating colonoscopy reports for bowel visualization,MD patients had significantly greater percentage of solid stool(i.e.,poor visualization) compared to C(40.3% vs 6.9%,P < 0.001).Poor bowel preparation(35.8% vs 9.7%,P < 0.001) and need for repeat colonoscopy(32.8% vs 12.5%,P = 0.004)

Physics-based,data-driven approach for predicting natural ventilation of residential high-rise buildings

Natural ventilation is particularly important for residential high-rise buildings as it maintains indoor human comfort without incurring the energy demands that air-conditioning *** improve a building’s natural ventilation,it is essential to develop models to understand the relationship between wind flow characteristics and the building's *** more effort is still needed for developing such reliable,accurate,and computationally economical models instead of currently the most popular physics-based models such as computational fluid dynamics(CFD)*** paper,therefore,presents a novel model developed based on physics-based modelling and a data-driven approach to evaluate natural ventilation in residential high-rise *** model first uses CFD to simulate wind pressures on the exterior surfaces of a high-rise *** the surface pressures have been obtained,multizone modelling is used to predict the air change per hour(ACH)for different flats in various ***-driven prediction models are then developed using data from the simulation and deep neural networks that are based on mean absolute error,mean absolute percentage error,and a fusion algorithm *** data-driven models are used to predict the ACH of 25 *** results from multizone modelling and data-driven modelling are *** results imply a high accuracy of the data-driven prediction in comparison with physics-based *** fusion algorithm-based neural network performs best,achieving 96%accuracy,which is the highest of all models *** study contributes a more efficient and robust method for predicting wind-induced natural *** findings describe the relationship between building design(e.g.,plan layout),distribution of surface pressure,and the resulting ACH,which serve to improve the practical design of sustainable buildings.
