several past studies showed that Autonomous Vehicles(AVs)can reduce crash risk,stop-and-go traffic,and travel *** analyze the safety benefits of AVs,most of the researchers proposed algorithms and simulation-based ***,these studies have not assessed the safety benefits of AVs for different vehicle types under heterogeneous *** this opportunity,this study focuses on the benefits of AVs in terms of safety for different penetration rates under heterogeneous *** study considered three driving logics during peak hour conditions to assess the performance of AVs in terms of *** VIssIM,default driving behavior models for AVs were adopted to consider cautious and all-knowing driving logic and the third driving logic(Atkins)was modeled in VIssIM using parameters adopted from the previous *** this end,using VIssIM,the travel time output results were ***,using surrogate safety Assessment Model(ssAM),conflicts were extracted from output trajectory files(VIssIM).The results suggest that“cautious driving logic”reduced travel time and crash risk significantly when compared to the other two driving logics during peak hour ***,the statistical analysis clearly demonstrated that“cautious driving logic”differs significantly from the other two driving *** Market Penetration Rates(MPR)were 50%or greater,the“cautious driving logic”significantly outperforms the other two driving *** results highlight that adopting“cautious driving logic”at an expressway may significantly increase safety at higher AV penetration rates(above 50%).

Evaluating effectiveness and acceptance of advanced driving assistance systems using field operational test

A large number of reported road collisions are caused by driver inattention,and inappropriate driving *** study investigated the effectiveness and acceptance of Advanced Driving Assistance systems(ADAs)for driver age groups,gender,occupation(professional/non-professional),and road type(expressway,urban roads,and semi-urban road)based on the Field Operational Test(FOT).The ADAs is provided with assistance features,such as Lane Departure Warning(LDW),Forward Collision Warning(FCW),and Traffic speed Recognition Warning(TsRW).In total,the FOT involved 30 participants who drove the test vehicle twice(once in the stealth phase and once in the active phase).The FOT included three sections:expressway(20.60 km),urban road(7.2 km),and semi-urban road(13.35 km).A questionnaire was used to determine user acceptance of the ADAs *** addition,parametric and non-parametric statistical tests were carried out to determine ADAs's significant *** FOT results showed statistically significant differences in the LDW’s acceptance and effectiveness for gender,age group,occupation,and road type before and after exposure to *** participants showed significant lateral behavior improvement compared to female ***-aged drivers scored the highest acceptance score for the technology compared to middle and young-aged *** subjective ratings ranked the assistance features in descending order as TsRW,LDW,and *** study’s findings can support policy development and induce trust in the public for the technology adoption to improve road traffic safety.

Respiratory syncytial virus(RsV)is the most common cause of viral bronchiolitis among children worldwide,yet there is no vaccine for RsV *** study investigates the potential of cube and sphere-shaped cerium oxide nanoparticles(CNP)to modulate reactive oxygen(ROs)and nitrogen(RNs)species and immune cell phenotypes in the presence of RsV infection in vitro and in *** and sphere-shaped CNP were synthesized by hydrothermal and ultrasonication methods,***-chemical characterization confirmed the shape of sphere and cube CNP and effect of various parameters on their particle size distribution and zeta *** vitro results revealed that sphere and cube CNP differentially modulated ROs and RNs levels in J774 ***,cube CNP significantly reduced RsV-induced ROs levels without affecting RNs levels while sphere CNP increased RsV-induced RNs levels with minimal effect on ROs *** CNP drove an M1 phenotype in RsV-infected macrophages in vitro by increasing macrophage surface expression of CD80 and CD86 with a concomitant increase in TNFαand IL-12p70,while simultaneously decreasing M2 CD206 *** administration of sphere and cube-CNP were well-tolerated with no observed toxicity in BALB/c ***,cube CNP preferentially accumulated in murine alveolar macrophages and induced their activation,avoiding enhanced uptake and activation of other inflammatory cells such as neutrophils,which are associated with RsV-mediated *** conclusion,we report that sphere and cube CNP modulate macrophage polarization and innate cellular responses during RsV infection.

Effect of austenitization temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of low-carbon-equivalent carbidic austempered ductile iron

The wear resistances of austempered ductile iron （ADI） were improved through intxoduction of a new phase （carbide） into the ma- txix by addition of chromium. In the present investigation, low-caxbon-equivalent ductile iron （LCEDI）（CE = 3.06%, and CE represents cax- bon-equivalent） with 2.42% chromium was selected. LCEDI was austeintized at two difl＇erent temperatures （900 and 975~C） a^ld soaked for 1 h and then quenched in a salt bath at 325~C for 0 to 10 h. samples were analyzed using optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Wear tests were carded out on a pin-on-disk-type machine. The efl＇ect of austenization temperature on the wear resistance, impact strength, and the mi- crostructure was evaluated. A stxucture-property correlation based on the observations is established.

Erasure coding for distributed storage: an overview

In a distributed storage system, code symbols are dispersed across space in nodes or storage units as opposed to time. In settings such as that of a large data center, an important consideration is the efficient repair of a failed node. Efficient repair calls for erasure codes that in the face of node failure,are efficient in terms of minimizing the amount of repair data transferred over the network, the amount of data accessed at a helper node as well as the number of helper nodes contacted. Coding theory has evolved to handle these challenges by introducing two new classes of erasure codes, namely regenerating codes and locally recoverable codes as well as by coming up with novel ways to repair the ubiquitous Reed-solomon code. This survey provides an overview of the efforts in this direction that have taken place over the past decade.

The contribution of theoretical calculations and predictions in the development of advanced high-performance thermoelectrics has been increasingly significant and has successfully guided experiments to understand as well as achieve record-breaking *** this review,recent developments in high-performance nanostructured bulk thermoelectric materials are discussed from the viewpoint of theoretical *** effective emerging strategy for boosting thermoelectric performance involves minimizing electron scattering while maximizing heat-carrying phonon scattering on many length *** present several important strategies and key examples that highlight the contributions of first-principles-based calculations in revealing the intricate but tractable relationships for this synergistic optimization of thermoelectric *** integrated optimization approach results in a fourfold design strategy for improved materials:(1)a significant reduction of the lattice thermal conductivity through multiscale hierarchical architecturing,(2)a large enhancement of the seebeck coefficient through intramatrix electronic band convergence engineering,(3)control of the carrier mobility through band alignment between the host and second phases,and(4)design of intrinsically low-thermal-conductivity materials by maximizing vibrational anharmonicity and acoustic-mode Gruneisen *** combined effects serve to enhance the power factor while reducing the lattice thermal *** review provides an improved understanding of how theory is impacting the current state of this field and helps to guide the future search for high-performance thermoelectric materials.

Thermoelectric transport enhancement of Te-rich bismuth antimony telluride(Bi_(0.5)sb_(1.5)Te_(3+x))through controlled porosity
