Non-pharmacological management of pediatric functional abdominal pain disorders:Current evidence and future perspectives

Functional abdominal pain disorders(FAPDs) are an important and prevalent cause of functional gastrointestinal disorders among children, encompassing the diagnoses of functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal migraine, and the one not previously present in Rome Ⅲ, functional abdominal pain not otherwise specified. In the absence of sufficiently effective and safe pharmacological treatments for this public problem, non-pharmacological therapies emerge as a viable means of treating these patients, avoiding not only possible side effects, but also unnecessary prescription, since many of the pharmacological treatments prescribed do not have good efficacy when compared to placebo. Thus, the present study provides a review of current and relevant evidence on non-pharmacological management of FAPDs, covering the most commonly indicated treatments, from cognitive behavioral therapy to meditation, acupuncture, yoga, massage, spinal manipulation, moxibustion, and physical activities. In addition, this article also analyzes the quality of publications in the area, assessing whether it is possible to state if non-pharmacological therapies are viable, safe, and sufficiently well-based for an appropriate and effective prescription of these treatments. Finally, it is possible to observe an increase not only in the number of publications on the non-pharmacological treatments for FAPDs in recent years, but also an increase in the quality of these publications. Finally, the sample selection of satisfactory age groups in these studies enables the formulation of specific guidelines for this age group, thus avoiding the need for adaptation of prescriptions initially made for adults, but for children use.

Precipitation isotope ratios(O and H)record the history of water phase transitions and fractionation processes during moisture transport and rainfall ***,we evaluated the isotopic composition of precipitation over the central-southeastern region of Brazil at different *** isotopic compositions were associated with classical effects(rainfall amount,seasonality,and continentality),demonstrating the importance of vapor recirculation processes and different regional atmospheric systems(South American Convergence Zone-SACZ and Cold Fronts-CF).While moisture recycling and regional atmospheric processes may also be observed on a daily timescale,classical effects such as the amount effect were not strongly correlated(δ^(18)O-precipitation rate r≤-0.37).Daily variability revealed specific climatic features,such asδ^(18)O depleted values(~-6‰to-8‰)during the wet season were associated with strong convective activity and large moisture *** isotopic analysis revealed the role of different moisture sources and transport *** ratios combined with d-excess explain how atmospheric recirculation processes interact with convective activity during rainfall formation *** findings provide a new understanding of rainfall sampling timescales and highlight the importance of water isotopes to decipher key hydrometeorological processes in a complex spatial and temporal context in central-southeastern Brazil.

Integrated risk management: a Petrobras application in offshore well construction safety to minimize critical emergency disconnections

In order to avoid mistakes and to save a great deal of time in analysis, an innovative methodology was developed that can analyze the well operations and rig characteristics involved to define the best emergency disconnect sequence （EDS） available. A solution was developed based on the characteristics of the rigs and blowout preventers （BOPs）, and six variables were considered that directly affect the choice of EDS. All possible combinations of 64 scenarios were analyzed, and the priority of choice of the EDS was defined empirically. This paper presents an approach to EDS risk management and examples of exposure time （time without riser safety margin and shear capability） for the same well, which can be lowered from 13% to 0.1%. The impact of this reduction is related to the ability of the BOP to cut some of the heavy casings, in addition to improved availability of EDS modes. This implementation opened up many possibilities for the performance of risk exposure analysis, enabling comparison of several BOP configurations of contracted rigs and selection of the best options. This innovative approach allowed a better management of the rig schedules, prioritizing safety aspects and making it possible to allocate the fleet in a systematic way.

Energy Efficiency in Social Interest Housing:NZEB Building Analysis for Southern Brazil

This article aims to investigate the potential for energy savings and impact on greenhouse gas(GHG)generation of social housing in southern *** and energy analysis of two architectural projects was carried out,one of them being a social interest housing unit and an optimized version of this unit characterized as Nearly Zero Energy Building(NZEB).At the end of the study,a cost analysis was carried out taking into account the building construction and local electricity generation through the installation of a photovoltaic(PV)*** the methods,software SketchUp Make and EnergyPlus was used for computer simulation,after which the PV power generation system for both buildings was dimensioned using the PvSol ***,the percentage of adaptive comfort of ASHRAE 55 was calculated,as well as financial analysis for the building construction and PV modules *** is concluded that it is possible to reduce energy consumption of this social interest housing by 52%and the heating consumption by 72%with passive strategies and envelope *** in an efficient building results in a 29%increase in building costs and promotes savings of 39.5 tCO_(2)over the life of the *** study demonstrates the importance of making NZEB buildings economically viable.

Lameness prediction in broiler chicken using a machine learning technique

Broiler flock welfare is usually assessed through mortality,physiology,behavior,and walk-ing *** possibility of assessing broiler chicken lameness using the bird walking abil-ity was investigated using the machine learning approach for the first *** on broiler walking speed and acceleration,genetic strain,and sex were recorded and input in a *** were classified according to the 6-point gait score(GS0 is a sound bird,and GS5 is a severely lame bird).decision trees were built initially using all *** confusion matrix of each developed model was *** pruning technique was used,removing from the dataset the variables that did not infer in the classification *** reorganized the dataset and re-arranged the data by grouping the intermediate target class of gait score using the Borda Count ***-processing data,we obtained a new set of decision *** the 3-point gait score(GS0 is a sound bird,and GS2 is a lame bird),we obtained a new model with better accuracy(78%);however,the model had a lower accuracy for classifying lame broilers(GS2,5%).The final decision tree was selected for classifying broilers,either sound or lame,according to their walking *** developed model presented good accuracy(91%),and it ordered properly sound(86%)and lame birds(92%).The novel model might be used to assess broiler lameness on-farm by registering the bird displacement *** developments using the model might allow flock lameness detection automatically.

Construction of Vector for Functional Analysis of the Intrinsically Bent DNA in the ACE3 Replicator from <i>Drosophila melanogaster</i>

DNA replication is a crucial process for species survival, nevertheless it is not clear which factors define origin selection in multicellular eukaryotes. developmental gene amplification systems, such as the one described during ovarian follicles development in Drosophila melanogaster, are useful tools for studying of DNA replication process in these organisms. We previously described that the well characterized third chromosome amplified domain of D. melanogater displays three intrinsically bent DNA sites: b1, localized at an amplification control element (ACE3), b2 and b3, both localized at the preferential origin ori-β. This proposal aimed to construct a Drosophila transformation vector, which contains a short deletion at the ACE3, in order to reduce the intrinsically bent DNA site b1, and analyze the functional role of this site in the gene amplification process. Through a series of cloning steps, we obtained a Big Parent vector derivative, containing a deletion at the positions 176-180 bp, inside the ACE3. The generation of a Drosophila transformation vector displays a reduced intrinsically bent DNA site in the third chromosome amplified domain, it will allow the analysis of the functional role of this curvature in developmental gene amplification, providing new insights on replication initiation in D. melanogaster and the function of intrinsically bent DNA sites.

BACKGROUND(-)-Fenchone is a bicyclic monoterpene present in essential oils of plant species,such as Foeniculum vulgare and Peumus boldus,used to treatment of gastrointestinal *** studies report its anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,and antinociceptive *** To investigate antidiarrheal activity related to gastrointestinal motility,intestinal secretion and antimicrobial *** A castor oil-induced diarrhea model was used to evaluate antidiarrheal *** transit and gastric emptying protocols were used to assess a possible antimotility *** receptors,presynaptic α2-adrenergic and tissue adrenergic receptors,KATP channels,nitric oxide were investigated to uncover antimotility mechanisms of action and castor oil-induced enteropooling to elucidate antisecretory *** antimicrobial activity was evaluated in the minimum inhibitory concentration model,the fractional inhibitory concentration index using the(-)-fenchone association method with standard antifungal ***(-)-Fenchone(75,150 and 300 mg/kg)showed antidiarrheal activity,with a significant decrease in the evacuation *** activity is possibly related to a percentage of reduced intestinal transit(75,150 and 300 mg/kg).The antimotility effect of(-)-fenchone decreased in the presence of pilocarpine,yohimbine,propranolol,L-NG-nitroarginine methyl ester or *** the enteropooling model,no reduction in intestinal fluid weight was observed.(-)-Fenchone did not show antibacterial activity;on the other hand,inhibits the growth of strains of fungi with a minimum fungicide concentration of 32μg/***,when it was associated with amphotericin B,no synergism was *** The antidiarrheal effect of(-)-fenchone in this study involves antimotility effect and not involve antisecretory mechanisms.(-)-Fenchone presents antifungal activity;however,it did not show antibacterial activity.

How to improve colon cancer screening rates

Colorectal carcinoma is a common cause of death throughout the world and may be prevented by routine control, which can detect precancerous neoplasms and early cancers before they undergo malignant transformation or metastasis. Three strategies may improve colon cancer screening rates: convince the population about the importance of undergoing a screening test; achieve higher efficacy in standard screening tests and make them more available to the community and develop new more sensitive and efficacious screening methods and make them available as routine tests. In this light, the present study seeks to review these three means through which to increase colon cancer screening rates.

Influence of wire spacing and plate spacing on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles: An approach involving electrostatic shielding and diffusion charging

Electrostatic precipitation is a process widely used as gas cleaning device,to removal particles from gas ***,in a conventional and well-sized precipitator,the collection efficiency decreases for ultrafine particles,making it difficult to employ this equipment for controlling nanoparticle *** paper investigates the influence of plate spacing(4 and 6.5 cm)and wire spacing(4,6,and 12 cm)on the electric current and nanoparticle collection efficiency,considering the effect of diffusion charging and electrostatic *** laboratory-scale dry wire-plate electrostatic precipitators with different plate spacings were tested for the collection of nanoparticles(6.15–241.4 nm)at three air velocities(1.9,2.9,and 3.9 cm/s).The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the equipment in removing nanoparticles(99.9%)under the highest electric *** values of the wire spacing led to increases in the current and the collection *** was associated with reduced electrostatic shielding,which is more evident in smaller ducts with a higher density of field *** is expected that the findings should improve knowledge on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles,enabling optimization of collection efficiency by considering the effects of geometric parameters.

Muscle strength and its association with cardiometabolic variables in adolescents:does the expression of muscle strength values matter?

Background We investigate the association between different muscle strength(MS)indices with cardiometabolic variables in *** Cross-sectional study comprising 351 adolescents(male 44.4%,age 16.6±1.0 years)from *** was assessed by handgrip strength and analyzed in live difrerent ways:absolute MS and MS normalized for body weight,body mass index(BMI),height,and fat mass,*** variables investigated as outcomes were systolic and diastolic blood pressure(DBP),waist circumference(WC),high-sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),lipid and glucose metabolism *** linear regression models adjusted for confounding factors were *** Absolute MS and/or MS normalized for height was directly associated with WC[up to 32.8 *** error(SE)=4.7]and DBP(up to 8.8 mmHg,SE=0.8),and inversely associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(up to-8.0 mg/***=14.1).MS normalized for body *** or fat inass was inversely associated with WC(up to-17.5 cm,SE=2.2).According tesex,MS normalized for fat mass was inversely associated with triglycerides(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.05 times lower,SE=0.01)and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.06 times ***=0.01).and inversely associated with hs-CRP only among male(0.03 times lower,SE=0.01).Conclusion When normalized for body weight,BMI or fat mass,MS was superior to absolute MS or MS normalized for height in representing adequately cardiometabolic variables among adolescents.
