Metabolic syndrome occurrence in university students from México City: The binomium HDL/waist circumference is the major prevalence factor

Objective: Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is the leading cause to develop type 2 diabetes worldwide. We examined associations of MetS components early in life, and their use as risk factors of acquiring MetS. Method: We used an international definition of MetS. Subjects were categorized into “Healthy”/“Not Healthy”, altered parameters are low HDL-cholesterol, large waist circumference (WC), hypertriacylglycerolemia, hypertension, and hyperglycemia, in 32 combinations (2^5) with two values (altered/not altered). MetS was identified with three or more altered parameters. Results: A total of 3424 students (ages 17 - 24 years) participated in the survey, and 2475 were “Not Healthy” showing at least 1 parameter altered;from them 49.6% showed low blood HDL either alone or combined, 38.2% had altered waist circumference either alone or combined;while 18.1% showed hypertriacylglycero-lemia either alone or combined. Hypertension and hyperglycemia were the lowest in frequency. Conclusion: We propose that the binomium HDL/ Waist Circumference is the main prevalence factor to develop MetS in the asymptomatic young population, followed by hypertriacylglycerolemia which together define MetS;while hypertension and hyperglycemia seem to occur later in MetS.

Immersion Tools as a Strategy for Adolescents Mental Health: A Qualitative Study

Background: Information and communication technologies have revolutionized education, due to development of didactic strategies to take advantage of them for maximizing learning. The aim was to analyze the influence of immersion tools as a strategy to improve adolescents’ mental health. Methods: Qualitative research was employed, and participants’ experiences, opinions, values, behaviors, emotions, feelings were recorded. Twenty six students of both sexes, aged 13 to 15 years, from the three grades of secondary school were selected by convenience, and supported by the school’s psychologist. A workshop on emotional intelligence (EI) based on educational technology was implemented using a video;students practiced a reflexive process to understand themselves and their surroundings, creating a video + audio as a product of the workshop. In it, students analyzed several problems they face and their relationship with their contextual situation. Data collection was through semi-structured interviews before and after the workshop on EI. Data analysis was according to Souza Minayo, and the theoretical framework according to Goleman, Tapia et al., Gorostieta et al., and Vigotsky. Results: Two categories emerged: Category I, EI as a risk factors transformer from living with addictions to protection factors in adolescents. Category II, EI development through immersion tools to improve mental health in adolescents. Conclusions: Immersion tools favor user to be closer, with a humanist focus where real necessities are studied after the vivid experience of the problem to solve or get a better situation. The goal is that students experience real situations inside controlled surroundings, in such a way that they learn from their experiences and acquire knowledge through self-learning. Fluorine in Water and Dental Fluorosis in a Community of Queretaro State Mexico

The community La Llave, Queretaro State, Mexico, has not been identified by the sanitary authorities as living in a hazard area related to dental fluorosis. However;a high concentration of fluoride is found in their drinking water causing them dental fluorosis. Physical-chemical analysis was carried out in the groundwater sources to determine the prevalence of dental fluorosis risk and caries accordingly to criteria of The World Health Organization, and 154 school children of ages 10 to 13 years were examined. As a result, 1.9 mg/L of fluorine concentration in drinking water was obtained;dental fluorosis presence was detected in the school children with an incidence of about 98%, in 47% of cases severe fluorosis with a dental caries index of 3.06 was traced. The groundwater sources in La Llave community contains fluorine above the limits dictated by Mexican regulations, producing serious repercussions on the health of school children, with an unnaturally high incidence of dental fluorosis.

＜正＞ α1 - Adrenoceptor - induced contraction in models of diabetes mellitus （DM） has been reported to be heterogeneous. We analyzed phenylephrine （PHE） effects on α1 - adrenoceptors in blood vessels, during early DM stages （2 and 4 weeks）. Male Long - Evans 6 weeks - old rats were DM - induced by streptozotocin （65 mg/kg. i.p.）. Two and 4 weeks after aorta, mesenteric and tail arteries were stimulated by PHE alone and with α1 - adrenoceptor antagonists. pD2 values increased 3-10 times in 2 weeks DM in all arteries, compared to controls, while Emax did not change. At 4 weeks of DM pD2 values were similar in DM and controls, but decreased compared with 2 weeks DM. Antagonists showed α1D - a-drenoceptor decreased pIC50 at 4 weeks of DM in all arteries. It will be important to study the progression of DM on α1 - adrenoceptor expression and function.

Xenobiotic-Metabolizing Enzymes in Skeletal Muscle of Children and Adolescents

Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes metabolize endogenous compounds such as steroid hormones, fatty acids, and xenobiotics, including drugs and carcinogens. The skeletal muscle is highly exposed to circulating xenobiotics;nevertheless the knowledge on the expression of these enzymes not only in adult skeletal muscle but also in younger individuals has been very little. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of CYP enzymes in healthy skeletal muscles of children and adolescents. This was investigated in a total of 18 biopsies taken from the quadriceps skeletal muscle of younger patients: 9 boys and 9 girls (≤18 years) by using specific antibodies in immunoblots and by RT-PCR mRNA analysis. The mRNA transcripts for CYP1B1 and CYP2E1 were consistently detected in all samples, but in the immunoblot only was identified CYP1B1 protein in four samples. Regarding CYP1A1, CYP3A4 and CYP3A5 enzymes in skeletal muscle, there were found in some samples in both techniques, although with significant inter-individual variations. Finally CYP2W1 only was detected in one sample belonging to the youngest patient. These data show that a range of CYP enzymes are expressed in the skeletal muscle of children and adolescents, suggesting that the metabolism of several xenobiotic chemicals to which humans are exposed takes place in muscle cells. Moreover, since the potential participation of muscles is a fact in pharmacokinetics of many therapeutic drugs, expression of CYPs in skeletal muscle may play an important role in drug-dependent toxicity.

背景在欧洲和中国进行Elecsys?胃泌素释放肽前体(ProGRP)免疫检测的多中心评估研究。方法在欧洲的3个中心和中国的2个中心,在肺癌中,通过不精密度、稳定性、方法学比较和鉴别诊断能力来评价该检测法。结果 5个分析物浓度的中间不精密度范围为变异系数:2.2%-6.0%。在不同储存条件下,血浆和血清样本均显示出良好的稳定性。在血浆中Elecsys?和ARCHITECT检测(斜率1.02,截距-2.72 pg/m L)之间表现出良好的相关性。同时,Elecsys?检测在血清和血浆样本之间表现出良好的相关性(斜率0.93,截距2.35 pg/m L;相关系数0.97)。ProGRP作为不受种族、年龄、性别或吸烟史相关影响的检测手段,可鉴别小细胞和非小细胞肺癌(NSCLC);截断值为84pg/m L时,曲线下面积为0.90,95%CI:0.87-0.93;敏感性为78.3%,特异性为95%。ProGRP浓度中位数在良性病变(38pg/m L)、其他恶性肿瘤(40 pg/m L)或NSCLC(39 pg/m L)中较低,而在3期以上慢性肾脏疾病中浓度较高(>100pg/m L)。结论 Elecsys?ProGRP检测在血清和血浆中稳定性增加,较现有检测法明显更具优势。ProGRP检测在中国的首次评价在不同种族中显示出相当的鉴别能力。

Erosion problem in tool steel using cold box core-making process

This paper presents the erosion results of the AISI H13 steel impinged by resin-bonded silica sand, using a testing rig that closely simulates the real blowing conditions during industrial core-making. Steel specimens were heat treated to obtain hardness of 294, 445 and 595 HV200 (29, 45 and 55 HRC). Erosion tests were carried out at impingement angles from 20° to 90° and air drag pressures of 1.38, 2.07 and 2.76 bar (20, 30 and 40 psi). The main results are summarized as follows:(i) The harder material, the lower erosion;(ii) the maximum erosion rate is at 30°;(iii) Little difference in erosion rate at impact angle of 60° and 90° for a constant pressure tested regardless of the hardness level;(iv) As the pressure increases, so does the erosion rate, being more sensitive for low impact angles. Finally, a differential form of the general erosion equation is applied on a practical core-making case to evaluate the erosion rate of the H13 steel at 30° and 90° impingement angles.

鳞状上皮细胞癌抗原水平在鳞状上皮细胞癌中通常升高。这项多中心研究评估了一种新的Elecsys?鳞状上皮细胞癌检测的检测性能,该检测方法是以等摩尔方式测量血清鳞状上皮细胞癌抗原1和2的水平,并研究了鳞状上皮细胞癌抗原用于宫颈癌、肺癌和头颈部鳞状上皮细胞癌鉴别诊断的潜能。在欧洲三个研究中心进行了精确度和方法学比较实验。健康人群的参考区间使用来自欧洲和中国人群的样本确定的。鉴别诊断试验确定了鳞状上皮细胞癌抗原水平能否将宫颈癌、肺癌或头颈癌与表观健康的、良性的或其他恶性群组区分开来。根据95%特异性下的鳞状上皮细胞癌抗原水平计算出鳞状上皮细胞癌抗原医学截断值。9个分析浓度的重复性变异系数<5.3%,中间精密变异系数<0.3%。方法学比较显示,与Architect和Kryptor系统具有很好的相关性(斜率分别为1.1和1.5)。表观健康人群的第95百分位数的参考区间为2.3 ng/m L(95%置信区间:1.9-3.8;欧洲队列,n=153)和2.7 ng/m L(95%置信区间:2.2-3.3;中国队列,n=146)。最佳的鉴别诊断结果见于宫颈鳞状上皮细胞癌:受试者工作特征曲线分析显示鳞状上皮细胞癌抗原水平(2.9 ng/m L的医学截断值)鉴别宫颈鳞状上皮细胞癌(n=127)与表观健康女性(n=286;曲线下面积:86.2%;95%置信区间:81.8-90.6;灵敏度:61.4%;特异性:95.6%),良性疾病(n=187;曲线下面积:86.3%;95%置信区间:81.2-91.3;灵敏度:61.4%;特异性:95.0%)和其他宫颈癌(n=157;曲线下面积:78.9%;95%置信区间:70.8-87.1;灵敏度:61.4%;特异性:86.7%)。鳞状上皮细胞癌还可帮助鉴别诊断肺癌。Elecsys鳞状上皮细胞癌检测技术在宫颈鳞状上皮细胞癌的临床实践中表现出了良好的性能,适合用于鉴别诊断。

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus(SARS-CoV)-2 infection induces an exacerbated inflammation driven by innate immunity *** cells(DCs)play a key role in the defense against viral infections,for instance plasmacytoid DCs(pDCs),have the capacity to produce vast amounts of interferon-alpha(IFN-α).In COVID-19 there is a deficit in DC numbers and IFN-αproduction,which has been associated with disease *** this work,we described that in addition to the DC deficiency,several DC activation and homing markers were altered in acute COVID-19 patients,which were associated with multiple inflammatory ***,previously hospitalized and nonhospitalized patients remained with decreased numbers of CD1c+myeloid DCs and pDCs seven months after SARS-CoV-2 ***,the expression of DC markers such as CD86 and CD4 were only restored in previously nonhospitalized patients,while no restoration of integrinβ7 and indoleamine 2,3-dyoxigenase(IDO)levels were *** findings contribute to a better understanding of the immunological sequelae of COVID-19.
