Sex-specific life-history strategies among immature jumping spiders:Differences in body parameters and behavior

Selection forces often generate sex-specific differences in various traits closely related to *** in adult spiders(Araneae),sexes often differ in coloration,body size,antipredator,or foraging behavior,such sex-related differences are less pronounced among ***,sex-specific life-history strategies may also be adaptive for ***,we hypothesized that among spiders,immature individuals show different life-history strategies that are expressed as sex-specific differences in body parameters and behavioral features,and also in their *** used immature individuals of a protandrous jumping spider,Carrhotus xanthogramma,and examined sex-related *** results showed that males have higher mass and larger prosoma than *** were more active and more risk tolerant than *** activity increased with time,and larger males tended to capture the prey faster than small ones,while females showed no such ***,females reacted to the threatening abiotic stimuli more with the increasing number of test *** both males and females,individuals with better body conditions tended to be more risk *** showed no sex-specific differences in interindividual behavioral consistency and in intraindividual behavioral variation in the measured behavioral ***,we also found evidence for behavioral syndromes(i.e.,correlation between different behaviors),where in males,only the activity correlated with the risk-taking behavior,but in females,all the measured behavioral traits were *** present study demonstrates that *** sexes follow different life-history strategies even before attaining maturity.

Theoretical and experimental study of 3-D initial fracture and its significance to faulting

The experimental results of 3-D fracture under compression are introduced in brief and the theory of stress criterion of 3-D fracture is studied. Methods to imitate initial fractures are developed. It is pointed that there are important defects in the extreme value （EV） method ever proposed by Palaniswamy and Knauss. The major defect lies in that only two Euler angles （2EA） are considered, but another one is neglected. If the variation of all the three Euler angles （3EA） are considered, one can get better result which is consistent with the observation of faulting that extends on curved surfaces but not on planes. The method of evaluating maximal normal stress direction vector （NSDV） is proposed and further proved to be equivalent to the 3EA method. It is proved that the NSDV method can be further optimized to the method of composition of the first principal differential plane （CFPDP）. The results from CFPDP method can fit the curved surfaces of initial growth observed in the experiments of 3-D fracture. The CFPDP method can also be used to interpret the 3-D fractures of the slipping section between the asperities in the buried fault plane that is modeled as ellipse crack. The results of 3-D fracture can be applied to interpreting the related problems of faulting including the mechanism of a lot of shatter rocks with different dimensions, the cause of earthquakes occurred at the edge of plate under low shear stress, and the mechanism of anisotropy caused by the extensive dilatancy anisotropy （EDA） cracks.

The global trend towards urbanisation explains the growing interest in the study of the modification of the urban climate due to the heat island effect and global warming, and its impact on enersy use of buildings. Also urban comfort, health and durability, referring respectively to pedestrian wind/ thermal comfort, pollutant dispersion and wind-driven rain are of interest. Urban Physics is a well- established discipline, incorporating relevant branches of physics, environmental chemistry, aerodynamics, meteorolosy and statistics. Therefore, Urban Physics is well positioned to provide keycontributions to the current urban problems and challenges. The present paper addresses the role of Urban Physics in the study of wind comfort, thermal comfort, energy demand, pollutant dispersion and wind-driven rain. Furthermore, the three major research methods applied in Urban Physics, namely field experiments, wind tunnel experiments and numerical simulations are discussed. Case studies illustrate the current challenges and the relevant contributions of Urban Physics.

TNF-α gene polymorphisms: association with age-related macular degeneration in Russian population

AIM: To study polymorphisms in promotor regions of tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α TNF-863 A/C(rs1800630), TNF-308 A/G(rs1800629), and TNF-238 A/G(rs361525) in patients with age-related macular degeneration(AMD) and associations of complex TNF-α genotypes with AMD. METHODS: One hundred and two patients(82 women, 20 men; mean age 64.2±1.2 y) with AMD and 100 healthy age-and sex-matched controls(82 women, 18 men; 60±1.4 y) were included in the study. All subjects were Caucasian, all subjects and their parents were inhabitants of Russia. Genomic DNA was obtained from EDTA-preserved blood using the standard phenol-chloroform method. Polymorphisms were detected by polymerase chain reaction followed by the restriction fragment length polymorphism method. The following TNF-α genotypes were studied: TNF-α-238 AA, GA, GG, TNF-α-308 AA, GA, GG, TNF-α-863 AA, CA, CC. RESULTS: Differences in TNF-α-863 and TNF-α-238 genotypes frequencies in patients with AMD and healthy controls were not found. The distribution of TNF-α-308 AA and TNF-α-308 GA genotypes was significantly different between the studied group and the controls [odds ratios(OR) =0.22, P=0.0287 and OR=2.91, P=0.0063, respectively]. TNF-863 CC/TNF-308 GA and TNF-308 GA/TNF-238 GG genotypes were associated with the increased risk of AMD(OR=2.48, P=0.0332 and OR=2.51, P=0.0187, respectively). Five genotypes combinations appeared to be protective. CONCLUSION: In the present study, single nucleotide polymorphisms and complex polymorphisms of one of the key inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, and a number of significant associations of these polymorphisms with AMD in Russian population have been shown. Complexanalysis of genotypes could be important in AMD risk factors detection and studying pathogenesis.

Effective AIDS Treatment with Resonance Medicine

The article discusses two forms of resonance in medicine in the treatment of AIDS. The first form is the destruction resonance. This is well known and we have used it to kill tumors or infectious diseases. The second form of resonance is the resonance of creation, which leads to the restoration of degenerated or destroyed organs. The article talks about the so-called “nosodes”—wave copies of the disease and “organopreparations”—wave copies of normally functioning organs. The author uses the method of high potency bioresonance therapy since the use of low potency nosode therapy is completely ineffective in the treatment of AIDS. Thus, the principle of high potency destruction resonance has proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of AIDS. The principle of the resonance of creation proved to be effective in restoring destroyed tissue.

Elements of Time

A clear mathematical theory of time remains one of the most difficult challenges of science, which seems highly intriguing. In this work, we assume that time is the main independent attribute of nature and therefore may serve as the foundation of a comprehensive field theory. Furthermore, we assume that division algebras with the Euclidean norm are essential mathematical tools of time and the physical world in general. We use a four-dimensional normed division algebra of quaternions to describe time mathematically, as originally envisioned by Hamilton. We systematically define basic quaternion concepts related to time, such as the quaternion time interval, scalar measured time, the arrow of time, vector velocity, and quaternion frequency. We apply quaternion time concepts to the optical Doppler effect and demonstrate that our approach predicts known experimental results. Furthermore, we show that the quaternion solution of the Doppler effect enhances the relativity theory by resolving the notorious twin paradox. We identify quaternion frequency with the traditional concept of energy. We assume that quaternion energy, which is generally dependent on time and external interactions, can be used to describe dynamic properties of matter. In conclusion, we suggest that a state of matter can be represented by the eight-dimensional octonion configuration space, consisting of a quaternion time interval and a time dependent quaternion frequency. Therefore, it appears that the application of normed division algebras for the study of time and nature is highly logical, credible, and compelling.

World experience indicates the existence of significant imbalances in the development of *** problem of assessing the rational development of the regional and national economy is becoming urgent,since such assessments can prevent development imbalances across *** aim of this study is to elaborate a methodology to assess the countries’socio-economic development by integraring 12 modern indices of socio-economic development into the Composite Country Development Index(CCDI).The methodology of this research was based on a set of key indices that described socio-economic development level in four fields(social development,digital development,economic development,and environmental security)and then these indices were integrated into the *** study further applied factor analysis and R-Studio software to define the gaps of social and economic development in 59 selected countries using the trigonometric function of the angle *** correlation analysis confirmed the existence of a close interrelation among the studied *** paper noted that due to the emergence of new priorities,it is necessary to revise the assessment methodology of socio-economic development level and expand them to cover the decisive *** was confirmed by the results obtained,demonstrating various combinations of the development level in the four fields and their impact on the *** scientific contribution of this research is to form a methodology(e.g.,the CCDI)for evaluating the socio-economic development level of countries in the world.
