Is CT scan a predictor of instability in recurrent dislocation shoulder?

Purpose: Glenoid bone defect and the defect on the posterior-superior surface of the humerus “Hill- Sachs lesion” are the commonly seen bony lesions in patients with recurrent dislocation shoulder. Computed tomography (CT) scan is considered as the best option in assessing the bony defects in the recurrent dislocation shoulder. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical and radiological corelation in the patients with recurrent dislocation shoulder. Methods: Forty-four patients of recurrent dislocation shoulder who were evaluated between January 2015 and December 2017 at a tertiary care center, clinically and radiologically using CT scan and meeting the inclusion criteria, were included. The correlation between the clinical history of the number of dislocations and the bone loss using CT scan was evaluated. Two sided statistical tests were performed at a significance level of α=0.05. The analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS STATISTICS (version 22.0). Results: All the patients were male with mean age of 25.95 (SD ± 4.2) years were evaluated. Twenty-four patients sustained injury in sporting activities while 20 patients sustained injury in training. There were an average of 4.68 (SD ± 3.1, range 2e15, median 3) episodes of dislocation. Forty-one patients had the glenoid bone loss while 40 had the Hill-Sachs lesions. The mean glenoid width defect was 10.80%(range 0e27%) while the mean Hill-Sachs defect was 14.27 mm (range 0e26.6 mm). The mean area of bone loss of the glenoid surface was 10.81%(range 0e22.4%). The lesions were on track in 34 patients and off track in 10 patients. Conclusions: CT scan of the shoulder joint is an effective method for assessing the amount of bone loss. The number of dislocations are correlated significantly with off-track lesions and the amount of bone loss on the glenoid and Hill-Sachs lesion. The ratoon stunting disease (RSD) of sugarcane,caused by the bacterium Leifsonia xyli ***,is one of the major concerns to sugarcane production and breeding programs *** to no obvious external symptoms,RSD cannot be easily detected by the growers,hence has reduced the world’s sugarcane production *** study aimed to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with RSD resistance and to assist in the development of linked molecular markers for marker-assisted breeding to minimize the reduction in sugarcane yield by the RSD infection.A set of 146 individuals derived from a self-crossing of CP80-1827 were evaluated for RSD resistance in a mechanically duplicated inoculated field trial from 2014 to 2017 using tissue blot *** the genetic data and the four years phenotyping data of CP80-1827 selfing population,linkage map construction and QTL analysis were conducted based on clonal F_1 and F_2 mapping population types with GACD V.1.2 and Ici Mapping V.3.3,respectively.A total of 23 QTL associated with RSD resistance were identified,which explained 6%to13%of the phenotypic variation with the two types of software.A total of 82 disease resistance genes were identified by searching these 23 QTL regions on their corresponding regions on the Sorghum bicolor genome (44 genes),sugarcane R570 genome (20 genes),and *** genome (18 genes),*** with Ici Mapping V.3.3,GACD V.1.2 identified more major (6 vs.3) and stable QTL (2vs.0),and more disease resistance genes (51 vs.31),indicating GACD V.1.2 (clonal F_1 mapping type) is most likely to be more efficient than Ici Mapping (F_2 mapping type) for QTL analysis of a sefling population or clonal F_1 population in clonal *** identified QTL controlling RSD resistance along with the associated SNP markers will assist sugarcane molecular breeding programs in combating this disease.

Implantations of 100 keV In ions to high dose of 6 ×1016 In/cm2 were performed into a-axis oriented crystals of Al2O3 held at a liquid nitrogen temperature. The implantation produced about 80nm thick amorphous surface layer. Isothermal annealing in flowing Ar gas ambient was done at the temperatures of 600, 700, 800, and 900℃ . Rutherford backscattering and channeling (RBS-C), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) have been employed to investigate the annealing *** indium shows anomalous diffusion in amorphous layer. The migration of indium was composed of two parts: (a) some broadening of In profile corresponding to diffusion within the amorphous layer, (b) segregation of In to surface to form In2O3 which appears as islands on the surface. When the ambient is made oxygen free, the segregated In is lost by evaporation at the surface.

Development of a Targeted Drug Delivery System for the Treatment of SARS-CoV-2

SARS-CoV-2 has triggered a public health outbreak across the world, resulting in almost 5 million deaths as of January 2022. The arrival of vaccines has provided temporary relief, but these vaccines target the spike protein, which is highly prone to mutation, making it impossible to develop a long-term cure for the coronavirus. As such, there is an urgent need for site-specific inhibition of the virus in the respiratory tract, as well as targeting the internal proteins of the virus itself. Past literature has identified 3CLpro and PLpro as enzymes essential to the replication of the virus, as they assemble almost the entirety of the viral genome;as such, inhibiting the activity of these enzymes can stymie the spread of the virus. This project proposes the use of inhaled drug delivery to inhibit Covid-19 by synthesizing a formulation that can travel directly to the lungs via inhalation. In order to streamline synthesis, existing FDA-approved drugs were analyzed using computational docking software and in vitro assays for inhibitory activity against these two enzymes. High-performing drugs were then encapsulated in PLGA nanoparticles to synthesize a drug delivery system, which was tested and characterized in vitro. Furthermore, in an effort to improve this drug delivery system relative to other drug delivery systems, the use of enzyme nanomotors was explored as a way to increase the accuracy of delivery by using computational simulations that mimicked conditions in the human body to model the velocity and trajectory of the nanomotors.

Comparative study of leaching of silver nanoparticles from fabric and effective effluent treatment

Nano silver （Agn） is employed as an active antimicrobial agent, but the environmental impact of Agn released from commercial products is unknown. The quantity of nanomaterial released from consumer products during use should be determined to assess the environmental risks of advancement of nanotechnology. This work investigated the amount of silver released from three different types of fabric into water during washing. Three different types of fabric were loaded with chemically synthesized Ag nanoparticles and washed repeatedly under simulated washing conditions. Variable leaching rates among fabric types suggest that the manufacturing process may control the release of silver reaching the waste water treatment plants. In an attempt to recover the Agn for reutilization and to save it from polluting water, the effluents from the wash were efficiently treated with bacterial strains. This treatment was based on biosorption and was very efficient for the elimination of silver nanoparticles in the wash water. The process ensured the recovery of the Agn leached into the effluent for reutilization, thus preventing environmental repercussions.

In this paper,stagnation point region(suspended with nanofluid and microorganisms)is examined subjected to velocity and thermal *** flow is assumed to be flowing across an exponentially stretching flat surface under magnetic field *** transport equations(framed under Buongiorno’s model)are converted into self-similar form through suitable unsteady exponential similarity transformations which are then solved by employing implicit finite difference scheme(IFDS)known as Keller-box method(KBM).A parametric analysis is performed along with limited details of *** of pertinent constraints on local skin friction,local Nusselt number,local Sherwood number and local density number of micro-organisms are also uncovered through graphs.A significant decrease in skin-friction coefficients has been detected with respect to thermal slip in comparison to velocity slip.

Studies on Rhizospheric Mycoflora of Tea (Camellia sinensis): In vitro Antagonism with Dominant Bacteria

Species of Trichoderma, Penicillium, Aspergillus and Mucor were found to dominate the rhizosphere of tea bushes in different regions of the Indian Himalayas. The Himachal Himalayas were dominated by Monilia humiscola (45.08%) and Mucor hiemalis (33.11%). In the Uttaranchal Himalayas, Aspergillus clavatum dominated the rhizosphere (54.01%), followed by A. flavous (20.07%). Although the fungal isolates require a mesophillic temperature (15 ℃ to 35 ℃), the tea rhizospheric isolates tolerate a wide range of temperatures (5 ℃ to 45 ℃). When tested for pH tolerance, these fungi showed a wide range (2.0 to 13.0) of pH tolerance under in vitro conditions. Seasonal variations also influenced the colony forming units (cfu) of the rhizospheric fungi, with the maximum forming in November and March, and the minimum in December^February. During this period, the populations of the fungi were found inversely proportional to the bacterial populations. In addition, the dominant bacteria in the tea rhizosphere, i.e., Bacillus subtilis and B. mycoides, showed antagonistic activity against fungal isolates by inhibiting the growth and causing structural abnormalities in mycelium. A field study was undertaken to ascertain the effects of elicitors viz. benzothiadiazole （BTH） and salicylic acid （SA） on defense related enzymes viz. peroxidase, phenylalanine ammonia lyase, superoxide dismutase, chitinase and 13-1,3-glucanase, and phenols in rice （Pusa Basmati I） plants. First foliar spray of BTH （50 mg/kg） and SA （50 mg/kg） was done at the maximum tillering stage and inoculation with Rhizoctonia solani was carried 24 h after elicitor treatment. Elicitors were further sprayed at every growth stage. Time course analysis showed peak accumulation of defense related enzymes and phenols in the rice leaves treated with BTH and SA, and accumulation was the highest at the flowering stage. Higher enzymatic activity was observed in elicitor treated plants inoculated with R. solani. Compared to the untreated control plants, application of elicitors before R. solani inoculation significantly elicited the defense related enzymes and phenols. Moreover, application of elicitors had a positive effect on yield and disease reduction. It is suggested that pretreatment of rice leaves with BTH and SA could be used to enhance the level of protection against sheath blight and to improve rice yield in the fields.

Purpose:Recurrent dislocation of shoulder(RDS)is a common injury in high demand professionals,like athletes and military *** treatment for the patients with Bankart lesion is the arthroscopic *** present study compares the outcomes of two different techniques of arthroscopic Bankart repair i.e.a standard two anterior portals technique and a single anterior portal technique in patients with ***:Patients with traumatic RDS met the inclusion criteria were managed with Bankart repair using either two anterior portals(Group A)or a single anterior portal(Group B)*** were evaluated before the intervention and at the mean follow-up of approximately two years using Rowe score,Oxford shoulder score and Tegner activity ***:The mean age of the patients in Groups A(n=34)and B(n=37)was 29.64 years and 29.05 years respectively(p=0.66).The dominant shoulder was involved in 27 patients in Group A and 22 patients in Group B(p=0.069).The operative time in Group A and B was 68.52 min and 46.35 min,respectively(p<0.001).The complications at follow-up,the mean Rowe score and Oxford score improved significantly in both groups compared with the pre-operative ***,the final outcome scores were not significantly different between the both *** median Tegner's score preoperatively and at follow-up was 7 and 6,respectively in Groups A and ***:Single anterior portal technique is an effective treatment modality,yielding a similar outcome as two anterior portals technique in the management of RDS.
