The proliferation of IoT devices requires innovative approaches to gaining insights while preserving privacy and resources amid unprecedented data generation.However,FL development for IoT is still in its infancy and needs to be explored in various areas to understand the key challenges for deployment in real-world scenarios.The paper systematically reviewed the available literature using the PRISMA guiding principle.The study aims to provide a detailed overview of the increasing use of FL in IoT networks,including the architecture and challenges.A systematic review approach is used to collect,categorize and analyze FL-IoT-based articles.Asearch was performed in the IEEE,Elsevier,Arxiv,ACM,and WOS databases and 92 articles were finally examined.Inclusion measures were published in English and with the keywords“FL”and“IoT”.The methodology begins with an overview of recent advances in FL and the IoT,followed by a discussion of how these two technologies can be integrated.To be more specific,we examine and evaluate the capabilities of FL by talking about communication protocols,frameworks and architecture.We then present a comprehensive analysis of the use of FL in a number of key IoT applications,including smart healthcare,smart transportation,smart cities,smart industry,smart finance,and smart agriculture.The key findings from this analysis of FL IoT services and applications are also presented.Finally,we performed a comparative analysis with FL IID(independent and identical data)and non-ID,traditional centralized deep learning(DL)approaches.We concluded that FL has better performance,especially in terms of privacy protection and resource utilization.FL is excellent for preserving privacy becausemodel training takes place on individual devices or edge nodes,eliminating the need for centralized data aggregation,which poses significant privacy risks.To facilitate development in this rapidly evolving field,the insights presented are intended to help practitioners and researchers navigate the complex terrain of FL and

A lossy mode resonance(LMR)-supported fiber optic sensor in which a uniform fiber core is placed among two identical tapered regions, is investigated numerically. Indium tin oxide(ITO)and aluminum-doped zinc oxide(AZO) are considered as LMR active materials used to excite several lossy modes and gold and silver are used as surface plasmon resonance(SPR) active materials. In this probe design, a central uniform core coated with ITO/AZO is the active sensing region, whereas tapered regions are meant for bringing the incident angle close to the critical angle. The sensitivity of the present fiber optic bio-sensor is evaluated for first two LMRs utilizing both ITO and AZO separately, along with its variation with the taper ratio(TR). For ITO, the maximum sensitivity values are observed to be 18.425 μm RIU^(-1)(refractive index unit)and 0.825 μm RIU^(-1), corresponding to the first and second LMRs, respectively, at a TR of 1.6 and for AZO, equivalent values are 0.79 μm RIU^(-1) and 0.35 μm RIU^(-1), respectively, at a TR of2.0. The results illustrate that the first LMR is more sensitive than the second LMR and the ITOcoated probe possesses greater sensitivity than the AZO-coated probe for both LMRs. Similarly,for the fiber optic SPR sensor, the maximum value of sensitivity is 5.6425 μm RIU^(-1), in the case of gold and 5.0615 μm RIU^(-1) in the case of silver, at a TR of 1.6. Hence, the result shows that the sensor with the present fiber optic probe design has around a 3-fold enhancement in sensitivity compared with conventional SPR sensors. This study will have applications in many sensing schemes where the requirement of large sensitivity is vital.

Machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches have rapidly gained popularity for use in many subsurface energy applications.They are seen as novel methods that may enhance existing capabilities,providing for improved efficiency in exploration and production operations.Furthermore,their inte-gration into reservoir management workflows may shape the future landscape of the energy industry.This study implements a framework that generates predictive models using multiple machine learning classification-based algorithms which can identify specific stratigraphic units(i.e.,formations)as a function of total vertical depth and spatial positioning.The framework is applied in a case study to 13 specific formations of interest(Upper Spraberry through Atoka/Morrow reservoirs)in the Midland Basin,West Texas,United States;a prominent hydrocarbon producing sub-basin of the larger Permian Basin.The study dataset consists of over 275,000 records and includes data fields like formation iden-tifier,true vertical depth(in feet)of formations observed,and latitude and longitude coordinates(in decimal degrees).A subset of 134,374 data records were relevant to the 13 distinct formations of interest and were extracted and used for machine learning model training,validation,and testing.Four super-vised learning approaches including random forest(RF),gradient boosting(GB),support vector machine(SVM),and multilayer perceptron neural network(MLP)were evaluated and their prediction accuracy compared.The best performing model was ultimately built on the RF algorithm and is capable of an overall prediction accuracy of 93 percent on holdout data.The RF-based model demonstrated high prediction accuracy for major oil and gas producing zones including the San Andres,Upper Spraberry,Lower Spraberry,Clearfork,and Wolfcamp at 98,94,89,94,and 94 percent respectively.Overall,the resulting data-driven model provides a robust,cost-effective approach which can complement contemporary reservoir management approaches for multiple subsurface energy

The effects of the stabilizing agent on the structural and luminescence properties of cadmium sulfide(CdS)nanocrystals have been investigated.Samples were prepared by chemical precipitation method using sodium hexametaphosphate(SHMP)and polyvinyl pyrrolidone(PVP).The structural and optical properties have been studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD),ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)absorption,photoluminescence(PL)and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy.XRD patterns confirm the presence of cubic zinc blend crystal structure with space group F-43m.The results show the variation in crystallite size with change in surfactant.Blue shift in absorption edge as compared to bulk CdS is found.PL results represent broad and very intense red emission with smaller particle size due to modification of surface emitting states with surfactant.

The quantile-based entropy measures possess some unique properties than their distribution function approach.The present communication deals with the study of the quantile-based Shannon entropy for record statistics.In this regard a generalized model is considered for which cumulative distribution function or probability density function does not exist and various examples are provided for illustration purpose.Further we consider the dynamic versions of the proposed entropy measure for record statistics and also give a characterization result for that.At the end,we study F^(α)-family of distributions for the proposed entropy measure.

Background Type 2 diabetes(T2D)is a chronic metabolic disorder with high comorbidity with mental disorders.The genetic links between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)and T2D have yet to be elucidated.Aims We aim to assess shared genetics and potential associations between ADHD and T2D.Methods We performed genetic correlation,two-sample Mendelian randomisation and polygenic overlap analyses between ADHD and T2D.The genome-wide association study(GWAS)summary results of T2D(80154 cases and 853816 controls),ADHD2019(20183 cases and 35191 controls from the 2019 GWAS ADHD dataset)and ADHD2022(38691 cases and 275986 controls from the 2022 GWAS ADHD dataset)were used for the analyses.The T2D dataset was obtained from the DIAGRAM Consortium.The ADHD datasets were obtained from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium.We compared genome-wide association signals to reveal shared genetic variation between T2D and ADHD using the larger ADHD2022 dataset.Moreover,molecular pathways were constructed based on large-scale literature data to understand the connection between ADHD and T2D.Results T2D has positive genetic correlations with ADHD2019(rg=0.33)and ADHD2022(rg=0.31).Genetic liability to ADHD2019 was associated with an increased risk for T2D(odds ratio(OR):1.30,p<0.001),while genetic liability to ADHD2022 had a suggestive causal effect on T2D(OR:1.30,p=0.086).Genetic liability to T2D was associated with a higher risk for ADHD2019(OR:1.05,p=0.001)and ADHD2022(OR:1.03,p<0.001).The polygenic overlap analysis showed that most causal variants of T2D are shared with ADHD2022.T2D and ADHD2022 have three overlapping loci.Molecular pathway analysis suggests that ADHD and T2D could promote the risk of each other through inflammatory pathways.Conclusions Our study demonstrates substantial shared genetics and bidirectional causal associations between ADHD and T2D.

The sensitivity of graphene’s Raman characteristics to external perturbations can be exploited for sensing applications.To apply this principle,Raman spectroscopy of graphene in contact with a chemical/biological analyte is recorded to unravel a correlation between analyte’s physical/chemical/biological properties and electronic properties(Fermi energy and dopants level)of graphene.As an example,we demonstrate the principle and operation of glucose measurement using graphene’s Raman spectroscopy,utilizing both affinity and enzymatic detection methods.In the affinity detection,we monitor Raman spectrum of graphene in contact with a glucose containing sample to quantify the attachment of glucose onto 1-pyrene boronic acid(PBA)functionalized graphene.It is revealed that glucose covalent bond to PBA induces n-type doping in graphene and increases its Fermi level following the Hill–Langmuir equation.In the enzymatic detection,we show that graphene’s Fermi energy shifts due to the biocatalytic oxidation of glucose by immobilized glucose oxidase(GOx)enzymes.As a result,graphene becomes p-doped with increasing glucose concentration.We attribute this sensitivity to a re-distribution of ionic charges within the electric double layer(EDL)of graphene upon introducing the glucose molecules.This model explains both our affinity and enzymatic glucose detection experiments.Beyond glucose detection,our graphene Raman spectroscopy-based sensor(GRS)may extend its applications to a broader range of remote and non-invasive detection without the need to employ electronics such as field-effect transistors.

Tunica albuginea versus buccal mucosa graft urethroplasty for anterior urethral stricture: A prospective randomised pilot study

Objective:The objective of the study was to compare the outcome of tunica albuginea urethroplasty(TAU)and buccal mucosa graft(BMG)urethroplasty for anterior urethral stricture.Methods:Thirty patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomised into two groups:TAU(Group A)and BMG urethroplasty(Group B).Surgical outcome was evaluated with pre-and post-operative work-up involving retrograde urethrogram,voiding cystourethrogram,uroflowmetry,and urethroscopy.Patients were followed up till 1 year.Results:Mean duration of surgery was statistically significant between two groups(p=0.0005).Maximum urine flow rate was comparable when compared between two groups(p=0.22)but statistically significant when compared pre-and post-operatively(p<0.001).At follow-up of 1 year,the successful outcomes were 80% in Group A and 87%in Group B.A total of five patients who had unsuccessful results required redo urethroplasty.Complications were minimal in both the groups.Conclusion:TAU provides outcomes equivalent to those of BMG urethroplasty.TAU has less operative time,easy to perform,and beneficial in patients with poor oral hygiene.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease,a rare form of necrotizing lymphadenitis,is an uncommon,benign,self-limiting disorder of obscure etiology.It affects mostly young adults of both genders.Clinically,it presents with fever and lymphadenopathy of a firm to rubbery consistency frequently involving cervical lymph nodes while weight loss,splenomegaly,leucopenia,and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate feature in severely affected patients.Cutaneous involvement occurs in about 30%-40%of cases as facial erythema and nonspecific erythematous papules,plaques,acneiform or morbilliform lesions of great histologic heterogeneity.Both Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease and systemic lupus erythematosus share an obscure and complex relationship as systemic lupus erythematosus may occasionally precede,develop subsequently,or sometimes be associated concurrently with Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.It is often mistaken for non-Hodgkin lymphoma while lupus lymphadenitis,cat-scratch disease,Sweet’s syndrome,Still’s disease,drug eruptions,infectious mononucleosis,and viral or tubercular lymphadenitis are other common differentials.Fine needle aspiration cytology mostly has features of nonspecific reactive lymphadenitis and immunohistochemistry studies usually show variable features of uncertain diagnostic value.Since its diagnosis is exclusively from histopathology,it needs to be evaluated more carefully;an early lymph node biopsy will obviate the need for unnecessary investigations and therapeutic trials.Its treatment with systemic corticosteroids,hydroxychloroquine,or antimicrobial agents mostly remains empirical.The article reviews clinicoepidemiological,diagnostic,and management aspects of KFD from the perspective of practicing clinicians.
