Pakistan’s experience with risk assessment training and implementation of concepts from the 4th edition of the WHO laboratory biosafety manual

Introduction:The cyclical process of hazard identification,risk assessment,risk mitigation,and review is a key step in developing a biorisk management(BRM)*** paper describes how this process was initiated in two laboratories in Pakistan using a unique model of blended ***:A training needs analysis showed that the staff had very little knowledge of BRM systems.A workshop using a unique blended model was conducted in which virtual and in-presence learning occurred *** workshop aimed to train the participants by applying two key concepts from the World Health Organization Laboratory Biosafety Manual 4th edition:1)the cyclical process of risk assessment and 2)mapping the core biorisk and establishing heightened control measures in the laboratories of the participants based on the risk *** scenarios and examples used in the training were from the participants’laboratory work ***:Prior to this project,no risk assessment was conducted in these *** the workshop,a risk assessment was performed for six work *** addition,seven core requirements and three heightened control measures were mapped,a biorisk officer was appointed,and a biosafety committee was ***,a biorisk manual,a biological waste management plan,an occupational health center,and a system for audits and inspections are being *** and conclusion:BRM training is not a one-time effort;it has to be strengthened to ensure the development and implementation of a comprehensive and sustainable BRM *** must be applicable to local settings and incremental,in a way that participants are not overloaded with information.

Parametric optimization of friction stir welding process of age hardenable aluminum alloys-ANFIS modeling

A comparative approach was performed between the response surface method(RSM) and the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS) to enhance the tensile properties, including the ultimate tensile strength and the tensile elongation, of friction stir welded age hardenable AA6061 and AA2024 aluminum alloys. The effects of the welding parameters, namely the tool rotational speed, welding speed, axial load and pin profile, on the ultimate tensile strength and the tensile elongation were analyzed using a three-level, four-factor Box-Behnken experimental design. The developed design was utilized to train the ANFIS models. The predictive capabilities of RSM and ANFIS were compared based on the root mean square error, the mean absolute error, and the correlation coefficient based on the obtained data set. The results demonstrate that the developed ANFIS models are more effective than the RSM model.

The two-stream convolutional neural network exhibits excellent performance in the video action *** crux of the matter is to use the frames already clipped by the videos and the optical flow images pre-extracted by the frames,to train a model each,and to finally integrate the outputs of the two ***,the reliance on the pre-extraction of the optical flow impedes the efficiency of action recognition,and the temporal and the spatial streams are just simply fused at the ends,with one stream failing and the other stream *** propose a novel hidden two-stream collaborative(HTSC)learning network that masks the steps of extracting the optical flow in the network and greatly speeds up the action *** on the two-stream method,the two-stream collaborative learning model captures the interaction of the temporal and spatial features to greatly enhance the accuracy of *** proposed method is highly capable of achieving the balance of efficiency and precision on large-scale video action recognition datasets.

Tectonic significance of dykes in the Sarnu-Dandali alkaline complex,Rajasthan, northwestern Deccan Traps

Whether swarms of preferentially oriented dykes are controlled by regional stress fields, or passively exploit basement structural fabric, is a much debated question, with support for either scenario in individual case studies. The Sarnu-Dandali alkaline complex, near the northwestern limit of the Deccan Traps continental flood basalt province, contains mafic to felsic alkaline volcano-plutonic rocks and carbonatites. The complex is situated near the northern end of the 600 km long, NNWe SSE-trending Barmer-Cambay rift. Mafic enclave swarms in the syenites suggest synplutonic mafic dykes injected into a largely liquid felsic magma chamber. Later coherent dykes in the complex, of all compositions and sizes,dominantly strike NNWe SSE, parallel to the Barmer-Cambay rift. The rift formed during two distinct episodes of extension, NWe SE in the early Cretaceous and NEe SW in the late Cretaceous. Control of the southern Indian Dharwar structural fabric on the rift trend, as speculated previously, is untenable,whereas the regional Precambrian basement trends（Aravalli and Malani） run NEe SW and NNEe *** therefore suggest that the small-scale Sarnu-Dandali dykes and the much larger-scale BarmerCambay rift were not controlled by basement structure, but related to contemporaneous, late Cretaceous regional ENEe WSW extension, for which there is varied independent evidence.

Dual antidiabetic and antihypertensive activity of fucoxanthin isolated from Sargassum wightii Greville in in vivo rat model

In a previous study from our laboratory, fucoxanthin purified from brown algae, Sargassum wightii Greville has found to exhibit antioxidant activity and inhibition of angiotensin-I-converting enzyme(ACE)in vitro. The present study aims in understanding the protective effect of fucoxanthin purified from S. wightii against diabetes with hypertension in in vivo. Diabetes and hypertension were induced in rat by streptozotocin and sodium chloride treatment, respectively. In diabetes with hypertension rat, the blood pressure was increased along with hyperglycemia. Administration of fucoxanthin significantly reduced the blood pressure and ACE activity in diabetes with hypertension rat. Furthermore, administration of fucoxanthin significantly reduced the hyperglycemic state. The activity of various enzymes in the liver(hexokinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphatase and fructose-1,6-phosphatase)and serum(creatine kinase)were normalized to that of control level. The level of glycogen, glycoprotein component and lipid profile were equivalent to control level by fucoxanthin administration in diabetes with hypertension rats. Fucoxanthin ameliorated the oxidative stress by preserving the endogenous antioxidant levels in diabetes with hypertension rats. Also, the pancreatic histological integrity was similar to that of control level in diabetes with hypertension rats by fucoxanthin treatment. Altogether, fucoxanthin showed dual antidiabetic and antihypertensive activity in vivo.

Ce-substituted Lithium Ferrite:Preparation and Electrical Relaxation Studies

Ce-substituted lithium ferrite, Li0.5CexFe2.5-x04 （x = 0, 0.05 and 0.1 ） compositions were synthesized from metal nitrates and citric acid by the solution combustion process by keeping the oxidizer to fuel ratio at unity. The thermal decomposition process was investigated by thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis, which showed a stable phase formation above 600 ℃. The phase composition and molecular bonding of Li0.5CexFe2.5_x04 were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, respectively. An extensive study of electrical relaxation process has been represented with impedance and modulus as a function of frequency at different temperatures. The activation energy obtained from both the formalisms was found to be equal within the error. The dc conductivity and hopping frequency were thermally activated and their activation energies were found to be in the range of 0.69-0.64 eV for x = 0.05. The scaling of modulus and impedance were used to understand the electrical relaxation behaviour of the compositions and they suggest the time temperature superposition principle.

Mangrove ecosystems are one of the most versatile habitats for microorganisms with a high potential for producing a variety of extracellular hydrolytic *** this study,bacteria with urease activity,enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia,were isolated from mangrove sediments of Poovar(Trivandrum,India).Bacillus halodurans,strain PO15,isolated in this study with high urease(UA)activity(28 U/ml)was subjected to optimization using a Box-Behnken experimental *** variables included incubation period,pH,inoculation percentage and *** factors identified based on the model were incubation period,pH,incubation temperature,and inoculum percentage;variations in these produced a tenfold increase in UA activity(295.80 U/ml).The specific activity of the purified UA enzyme was 62.34 U/mg and was found to be thermostable(active up to 60℃).UA of *** PO15 has potential for microbial-induced biomineralization with a reduction of free Ca^2+ to about 82.8%±0.17%.The microbialinduced calcium precipitation(MICP)using the UA enzyme will potentially be beneficial in the process of biomineralization as well as for a variety of industrial applications.

Prediction of primary quality variables in real time with adaptation capability for varying process conditions is a critical task in process *** article focuses on the development of non-linear adaptive soft sensors for prediction of naphtha initial boiling point(IBP)and end boiling point(EBP)in crude distillation *** this work,adaptive inferential sensors with linear and non-linear local models are reported based on recursive just in time learning(JITL)*** different types of local models designed are locally weighted regression(LWR),multiple linear regression(MLR),partial least squares regression(PLS)and support vector regression(SVR).In addition to model development,the effect of relevant dataset size on model prediction accuracy and model computation time is also *** show that the JITL model based on support vector regression with iterative single data algorithm optimization(ISDA)local model(JITL-SVR:ISDA)yielded best prediction accuracy in reasonable computation time.
