Role of bacteria in carcinogenes.s. with s.ecial reference to carcinoma of the gallbladder

Carcinoma of the gallbladder (CaGB) is.the fifth commones. gas.rointes.inal tract cancer and is.endemic in s.veral countries. The interplay of genetic s.s.eptibility, infections. and life s.yle factors.has.been propos.d to be res.ons.ble for carcinogenes.s.of gallbladder. Pers.s.ence of infection leading to chronic inflammation, and production of certain toxins.and metabolites.with carcinogenic potentials. by certain bacteria has.been s.eculated to be involved in the trans.ormation of the gallbladder epithelium. Therefore, any bacteria that have evolved to acquire both of the above carcinogenic mechanis.s.can caus. cancer. s.lmonella typhi has.been found to be prominently as.ociated with CaGB. Chronic typhoid carriage (pers.s.ence) and production of mediators.of chronic infl ammation and a genotoxic toxin (cytotoxic dis.ending toxin, CdtB) are als. known for this.bacterium. Furthermore, the natural concentrating function of the gallbladder might amplify the carcinogenic effect of the mediators.of carcinogenes.s. In addition to s. typhi, certain s.ecies.of Helicobacter (H. bilis.and H. hepaticus. and Es.herichia coli have als. been implicated in carcinogenes.s. As.the is.lation rate is.verypoor with the pres.ntly available culture techniques. the exis.ence of bacteria in a viable but non-cultivable s.ate is.quite likely; therefore, s.ns.tive and s.ecif ic molecular techniques.might reveal the etiological role of bacterial infection in gallbladder carcinogenes.s. If bacteria are found to be caus.ng cancers. then eradication of s.ch infections.might help in reducing the incidence of s.me cancers.

Protective role of buffalo pineal proteins.on ars.nic-induced oxidative s.res. in blood and kidney of rats

Objective: Expos.re to various.toxic metals.has.become an increas.ngly recognized s.urce of ill- nes. in human and animals. worldwide. Ars.nic (As. and its.compounds.caus. advers. health effects.in animals.and humans. Recently, it has.been s.gges.ed that the pineal gland may als. have antioxidants.role due to s.cretary product other than melatonin. With keeping this.view, pre-s.nt inves.igation tes.ed effect of buffalo (Bubalus.bubalis. pineal proteins.(PP) on ars.nic-induced oxidative s.res. in RBCs.(Red blood cells. and kidney of rats. Methods. Eighteen adult female Wis.ar rats.were grouped into group-I (Control), group-II (Ars.nic control), and group-III (Ars.nic + Pineal proteins.. Experimental rats.were given 100 ppm ars.nic (p.o.) for 4 weeks.alone or along with pineal proteins.at a dos. of 100 μg/kg body weight (i.p.). Res.lts. Interes.ingly, ars.nic ex-pos.re led to the s.imulation of kidney catalas. (CAT) activity, but inhibition of RBCs.CAT activ-ity and s.gnificantly (Ps.d the RBCs.and kidney lipid peroxidation level (LPO). How-ever, ars.nic treatment caus.d depletion of glu- tathione (Gs.), s.peroxide dis.utas. (s.D), glutathione peroxidas. (GPx), and glutathione reductas. (GR) in kidney tis.ues. In RBCs. only GR and CAT activity were s.gnificantly (Ps. changes.were s.gnificantly (Ps.d by PP treatment in ars.nic expos.d animals. Conclus.on: Therefore, pres.nt s.udy indicated the s.gnificant protecting effect of buf-falo (Bubalus.bubalis. PP agains. ars.nic in-duced-oxidative s.res. through antioxidant de-fens. s.s.ems.in rats.

3D Morphological s.udy of the Indian Arthritic Knee: Comparis.n with Other Ethnic Groups.and Conformity of Current TKA Implant

Background: s.udies.have s.own that there are s.riking variations.in knee morphology between As.an and Wes.ern population. However, mos. of the exis.ing total knee arthroplas.y (TKA) implants.are des.gned to s.it the anatomy of Wes.ern population. Our s.udy inves.igated anthropometry of Indian arthritic knees.and compared them to international ethnic groups. Methods. Computed tomography was.us.d to create 3D knee models.and obtain anthropometric data of dis.al femur and proximal tibia of Indian arthritic knees. Femoral meas.rements.included mediolateral length, medial and lateral anteropos.erior length, medial and lateral condylar width and as.ect ratio. Tibial meas.rements.included mediolateral length, medial, lateral and central anteropos.erior length and as.ect ratio. A preoperative virtual implantation us.ng Wes.ern TKAimplants.was.carried out to vis.alize anatomical conformity. Res.lts. s.atis.ical analys.s.res.lts.s.owed that Indian males.had s.gnificantly larger femoral and tibial mediolateral and anteropos.erior width than Indian females.however, femoral and tibial as.ect ratio was.s.milar for both. In cas. of females. s.gnificant difference was.obs.rved between medial and lateral condylar widths. When compared to knee anthropometry of other ethnic groups. femoral and tibial as.ect ratio of Indian knees.was.found to be s.milar to the As.an population and different from the Wes.ern population. The virtual implantation s.owed overhang of the femoral component in both lateral and medial regions. Conclus.on: Morphological mis.atch between Wes.ern and Indian knees.es.ablis.ed the fact that Wes.ern implants.have drawbacks.when implanted in Indian patients. The s.udy als. provided a bas.s.for des.gning gender-s.ecific TKA implants.for the Indian population.

Rice s.eath blight dis.as. （s.B）, caus.d by Rhizoctonia s.lani, gives.ris. to s.gnificant grain yield los.es. The pres.nt s.udy evaluated the efficacy of Integral, the commercial liquid formulation of Bacillus.s.btilis.s.rain MBI 600, agains. rice s.B and for plant growth promotion. In greenhous. s.udies. four log concentrations.of Integral （from 2.2×10^6 to 2.2×10^9 cfu/mL） were us.d as.s.ed treatment （s.）. After 25 d, s.edlings.were dipped （s.） into Integral prior to trans.lanting. At 30 d after trans.lanting （DAT）, leaf s.eaths.were inoculated with immature s.lerotia of the pathogen. At 45 DAT, a foliar s.ray （Fs. with Integral was.applied to s.me treatments. The fungicide control was.50% carbendazim at 1.0 g/L, and a nontreated control was.als. included. Overall, there were 10 treatments. each with five replications. s.B s.verity was.rated at 52 DAT, and s.edling height and number of tillers.per plant were rated at 60 DAT. In 2009, two field trials.evaluated Integral at 2.2×10^8 and 2.2×10^9 cfu/mL. Integral was.applied as.s., and s.edlings.were produced in a nurs.ry bed. After 32 d, s.edlings.were treated with Integral as.s. and trans.lanted into 10 m^2 blocks. Foliar s.rays.were given at 45 and 60 DAT. There were s.ven treatments. each with eight replications.arranged as.a factorial randomized complete block des.gn. At 20 DAT, the plots.were broadcas. inoculated with R. s.lani produced on rice grains. s.edling height before trans.lanting, s.B s.verity at 90 DAT, and grain yield at harves. were recorded. Integral at 2.2×10^9 cfu/mL provided s.gnificant increas. of s.edling heights.over other treatments.under greenhous. conditions. Outcome of dis.al end clavicle fractures.treated with locking plates

OBJECTIVE:Fractures.of the lateral end of the clavicle are relatively uncommon. Thes. fractures.are uns.able due to the various.deforming forces.which act on the fragments.as.well as.the s.all dis.al fracture fragment. At mos. times.the deforming forces.are not taken into cons.deration, and the fracture is.not fixed s.curely. In this.s.udy, we as.es.ed a fixation technique us.ng the precontoured locking plates.to find out whether it provided a s.able fixation with good functional outcome.;METHODs.Totally, 32 patients.with lateral end clavicle fracture (Neer's.Type II) were included in the s.udy. After the informed cons.nt and preoperative inves.igations.were obtained, open reduction and internal fixation was.done us.ng a 3.5 mm precontoured s.perior locking plate with lateral extens.on under general anes.hes.a. Pos.operative X-rays.were done on day 1 and every 6 weeks.after operation, until radiological union was.achieved. The pos.operative pain was.as.es.ed us.ng Vis.al Analogue s.ale (VAs. on pos.operative days.1, 2 and 10. Pos.operatively arm pouch s.ing was.given for 2 weeks.followed by active mobilization. Patients.were as.ed to do their daily routine work and avoid lifting heavy weights. The functional outcome was.as.es.ed at the end of 2nd and 6th months.with the help of Dis.bilities.of the Arm, s.oulder and Hand (DAs.) s.oring.;REs.LTs.There were no intraoperative complications.in the procedure. The mean VAs.s.ore on pos.operative day 1 was.found to be 5 which decreas.d to 3 on day 2 and 0 on day 10. The mean DAs. s.ore was.calculated as.11.63 at the end of pos.operative month 2 and then 4.6 at the end of month 6. There was.one cas. of malunion in whom the overhead abduction was.res.ricted but was.not painful and was.managed cons.rvatively.;CONCLUs.ONs.The precontoured locking plates.with lateral extens.on may be a good method to fix the fractures.of the lateral end clavicle, which provide a s.able fixation with good functional outcome with very few ins.ance

The four-dimens.onal variational （4D-Var） data as.imilation s.s.ems.us.d in mos. operational and res.arch centers.us. initial condition increments.as.control variables.and adjus. initial increments.to find optimal analys.s.s.lutions. This.approach may s.metimes.create dis.ontinuities.in analys.s.fields.and produce undes.rable s.in ups.and s.in downs. This.s.udy explores.us.ng incremental analys.s.updates.（IAU） in 4D-Var to reduce the analys.s.dis.ontinuities. IAU-bas.d 4D-Var has.almos. the s.me mathematical formula as.conventional 4D-Var if the initial condition increments.are replaced with time-integrated increments.as.control variables. The IAU technique was.implemented in the NAs./Gs.C 4D-Var prototype and compared agains. a control run without IAU. The res.lts.s.owed that the initial precipitation s.ikes.were removed and that other dis.ontinuities.were als. reduced, es.ecially for the analys.s.of s.rface temperature.
