Comparative clinical trial of S-pantoprazole versus racemic pantoprazole in the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease

AIM: To compare the effi cacy and tolerability of S-pan- toprazole (20 mg once a day) versus racemic panto- prazole (40 mg once a day) in the treatment of gastro- esophageal reflux disease (GERD). METHODS: This multi-centre, randomized, double-blind clinical trial consisted of 369 patients of either sex suf- fering from GERD. patients were randomly assigned to receive either one tablet (20 mg) of S-pantoprazole once a day (test group) or 40 mg racemic pantoprazole once a day (reference group) for 28 d. patients were evaluated for reduction in baseline on d 0, GERD symptom score on d 14 and 28, occurrence of any adverse effect during the course of therapy. Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy was performed in 54 patients enrolled at one of the study centers at baseline and on d 28. RESULTS: Signifi cant reduction in the scores (mean and median) for heart burn (p p p p phagia (p ps on d 14 with further reduction on continuing the therapy till 28 d. There was a statistically signifi cant difference in the proportion of patients showing improvement in acid regurgitation and bloating on d 14 and 28 (p = 0.004 for acid regurgitation; p = 0.03 for bloating) and heart burn on d 28 (p = 0.01) between the two groups, with a higher proportion in the test group than in the refer- ence group. Absolute risk reductions for heartburn/acid regurgitation/bloating were approximately 15% on d 14 and 10% on d 28. The relative risk reductions were 26%-33% on d 14 and 15% on d 28. GI endoscopy showed no signifi cant difference in healing of esophagitis (p = 1) and gastric erosions (p = 0.27) between the two groups. The existing out-of-step(OOS)protection schemes have proven to be deficient in the prevention of significant *** protection schemes must not operate in stable power swing,and rapidly isolate an asynchronous generator or group of generators from the rest of the power system in case of unstable power *** paper proposes a novel phasor measurement unit(pMU)incorporating a polygon-shaped graphical algorithm for OOS protection of the synchronous *** unique pMU-based logic works further to classify the type of swing once the graphical scheme detects it,which can identify the complex power swing produced in the modern power *** proposed algorithm can take the correct relaying decision in the event of power swing due to renewable energy integration,load encroachment,and transient *** this paper,the original and modified Kundur two-area system with a power system stabilizer(pSS)is used to test the proposed *** the end,it provides assessment results of the proposed relay on the Indian power system during the blackout in July *** results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is fast,accurate,and adaptive in the modern power system and shows better performance than the existing OOS protection schemes.

Effect of thermal radiation on mixed convection of a nanofluid from an inclined wavy surface embedded in a non-Darcy porous medium with wall heat flux

This article focuses on the effect of radiation on mixed convection in a nanofluid along an inclined wavy surface embedded in a non-Darcy porous medium.A coordinate transformation is employed to transform the complex wavy surface to a smooth *** governing equations are transformed into a set of partial differential equations using the nonsimilarity transformation and then a local similarity and non-similarity method is applied to obtain coupled ordinary differential *** resulting equations are linearized using the successive linearization method and then solved by the Chebyshev spectral *** effects of radiation,non-Darcy parameter,Brownian motion parameter,thermophoresis parameter,the amplitude of the wavy surface,angle of inclination of the wavy surface on the non-dimensional heat and nanoparticle mass transfer rates are studied and presented graphically.

Cropping pattern optimization considering uncertainty of water availability and water saving potential

In arid and semi-arid areas,the profitability of irrigated agriculture mainly depends on the availability of water resources and optimal cropping patterns of irrigation *** this study,an integrated agricultural cropping pattern optimization model was developed with considering the uncertainty of water availability and water saving potential in the future,aiming to maximize agricultural net benefit per unit of irrigation *** available water which was based on the uncertainty of runoff was divided into five *** irrigation water-saving potential in the future was quantified by assuming an increase in the rate irrigation water-saving of 10% and 20%.The model was applied to the middle reaches of Heihe River basin,in Gansu province,*** showed that if the irrigation water-saving rate was assumed to increase by 10%,then the net water-saving quantity would increase by 21.5-22.5 million m3 and the gross water-saving quantity would increase by 275.7-303.0 million ***,if the irrigation water-saving rate increased by 20%,then the net water-saving quantity would increase by 43.0-45.1 million m3 and the gross water-saving quantity would increase by 331.7-383.2 million *** the agricultural cropping pattern was optimized,the optimal water and cultivated area allocation for maize would be greater than those for other *** the premise that similar volume of irrigation water quantity was available in different scenarios,results showed differences in system benefit and net benefit per unit of irrigation water,for the distribution of available irrigation water was diverse in different irrigation districts.

Forecasting of a nonlinear cascade was developed for modeling watershed runoff, and was tested by computing the direct runoff hydrograph for two rainfall- runoff events on a small watershed in China . The forecasting model was superior to Ding s variable unit hydrograph method and the method of limited differences for these two events.

Effect of calcium lactate on compressive strength and self-healing of cracks in microbial concrete

This paper presents the effect on compressive strength and self-healing capability of bacterial concrete with the addition of calcium *** to normal concrete,bacterial concrete possesses higher durability and engineering concrete *** production of calcium carbonate in bacterial concrete is limited to the calcium content in *** calcium lactate is externally added to be an additional source of calcium in the *** influence of this addition on compressive strength,self-healing capability of cracks is highlighted in this *** bacterium used in the study is bacillus subtilis and was added to both spore powder form and culture form to the *** subtilis spore powder of 2 million cfu/g concentration with 0.5%cement was mixed to *** lactates with concentrations of 0.5%,1.0%,1.5%,2.0%,and 2.5%of cement,was added to the concrete mixes to test the effect on properties of *** other samples,cultured bacillus subtilis with a concentration of 1×10^cells/mL was mixed with concrete,to study the effect of bacteria in the cultured form on the properties of *** of 100 mm×100 mm×100 mm were used for the *** cubes were tested after a curing period of 7,14,and 28 d.A maximum of 12%increase in compressive strength was observed with the addition of 0.5%of calcium lactate in *** electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy examination showed the formation of ettringite in pores;calcium silicate hydrates and calcite which made the concrete denser.A statistical technique was applied to analyze the experimental data of the compressive strengths of cementations *** surface methodology was adopted for optimizing the experimental *** regression equation was yielded by the application of response surface methodology relating response variables to input *** method aids in predicting the experimental results accurately with an acceptable range

processing and design methodologies for advanced and novel thermal barrier coatings for engineering applications

Thermal barrier coating is a crucial thermal insulation technology that enables the underlying substrate to operate near or above its melting temperature. Such coatings bolster engineers＇ perpetual desire to increase the power and efficiency of gas turbine engines through increasing the turbine inlet tempera- ture. Advances in recent years have made them suitable for wider engineering and defense applications, and hence they are currently attracting considerable attention. A thermal barrier coating system is itself dynamic; its components undergo recurrent changes in their composition, microstructure and crystalline phases during its service life. Nevertheless, the performance of multi-layered and multi-material sys- tems tailored for high temperature applications is closely linked to the deposition process. The process improvements achieved so far are the outcome of increased understanding of the relationship between the coating morphology and the operating service conditions, as well as developments in characterization techniques. This article presents a comprehensive review of various processing techniques and design methodologies for thermal barrier coatings. The emphasis of this review is on the particle technology; the interrelationship between particle preparation, modification and the resulting properties, to assist developments in advanced and novel thermal barrier coatings for engineering applications.

A CFD-DEM model is developed for chemical vapour deposition of silane in a fluidized bed reactor to investigate the effect of polydispersity on local phase dynamics,mass and heat transport,as well as the rate of Si *** gas-phase fines formation and heterogeneous deposition on the seed particle,as well as the scavenging effect for Si particle growth,are *** method is first validated against the experimentally measured Si deposition rate,percentage of fine production and minimum fluidisation ***,the properties,primarily particle intermixing,fluidisation behaviour and bubble dynamics along with the deposition process,are analyzed for several polydisperse beds under various operating *** effect of polydispersity of the bed on a fraction of the bubble size,dense phase expansion and interchange coefficient between various phases is thoroughly investigated to establish a correlation with reactor *** results show that broad-Gaussian particle size distribution(pSD)exhibits excellent improvement in fluidisation behaviour,resulting in a high deposition rate,and minimum formation of Si fines.

Hybrid Image Compression-Encryption Scheme Based on Multilayer Stacked Autoencoder and Logistic Map

Secure transmission of images over a communication channel, with limited data transfer capacity, possesses compression and encryption schemes. A deep learning based hybrid image compression-encryption scheme is proposed by combining stacked auto-encoder with the logistic map. The proposed structure of stacked autoencoder has seven multiple layers, and back propagation algorithm is intended to extend vector portrayal of information into lower vector space. The randomly generated key is used to set initial conditions and control parameters of logistic map. Subsequently, compressed image is encrypted by substituting and scrambling of pixel sequences using key stream sequences generated from logistic *** proposed algorithms are experimentally tested over five standard grayscale images. Compression and encryption efficiency of proposed algorithms are evaluated and analyzed based on peak signal to noise ratio(pSNR), mean square error(MSE), structural similarity index metrics(SSIM) and statistical,differential, entropy analysis respectively. Simulation results show that proposed algorithms provide high quality reconstructed images with excellent levels of security during transmission..
