Circulating Th17 and Tc17 Cells and Their Imbalance with Regulatory T Cells Is Associated with Myocardial Infarction in Young Indian Patients

Background: Activ.ted inflammatory cells are found in coronary plaques as well as peripheral circulation in patients with acute coronary syndrome. We explored the circulating T cell profile, their reactiv.ty to self-antigens and plasma cytokine lev.ls in Indian patients with Myocardial Infarction. Methods and Results: Intracellular expression of interferon-γ Interleukin (IL)-4, IL-17, IL-10 and Foxp3 were determined in CD4+ and CD8+ T cells using flow cytometry in patients with ST elev.ted myocardial infarction (STEMI) (N = 79) and controls (N = 80). Cytokines were measured using Milliplex kit and T cell reactiv.ty was studied by CFSE dilution. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Patients with myocardial infarction showed higher proportion of IL-17 expressing CD4+ and CD8+ T cells (Th17 and Tc17) and elev.ted lev.ls of IL-6 and IL-17 in plasma with significant reduction in circulating Tregs. Th1, Th2 and CD4+CD28null cells were not significantly different in patients compared to healthy indiv.duals. The ratio of Th17 and Tc17 to Tregs showed an independent association with STEMI with an adjusted odds ratio of 2.92 (95% CI: 1.73 - 4.92), P + and CD8+ T cells secreting IL-17 and Tregs is associated with acute myocardial infarction. HSP60 and Ox-LDL may contribute to this response and pathogenesis of AMI in Indian population.

Clinical-DNA Correlates of Anxiety in Patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Introduction: Anxiety disorders hav. a lifetime prev.lence of 34% with a similar lev.l of heritability (31%) yet lack objectiv. markers that could differentiate patients with underlying conditions. Up to 60%-70% of patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome hav. anxiety that meets criteria of generalized anxiety disorder, their clinical-DNA findings worth examining as biomarkers for patients with generalized anxiety. Method: Of the 1899 patients diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, 1261 were systematically ev.luated for 80 history and 40 physical findings and separated into 826 who reported anxiety and 435 who did not. The most consistently reported or management-directing 60 of these clinical findings were, along with v.riations in genes relev.nt to these disorders, examined for association with anxiety. Results: Among the 30 anxiety- associated findings judged most predictiv. of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in patients with anxiety were expected ones of adrenergic stimulation (difficulty concentrating-87% frequency and 1.26 anxiety/no anxiety ratio;chronic fatigue-84%, 1.17;sleep issues 69%, 1.52 that are criteria for generalized anxiety disorder) or of cholinergic suppression (e.g., frequent nausea 64%, 1.26). Less associated but more discriminating for underlying disease were those reflectiv. of neuromuscular impact (e.g., chronic daily headaches 76%, 1.12);hypermobility (e.g., awareness of flexibility 72%, 1.03), or skin changes (e.g., elasticity around jaw 71%, 1.06). Anxiety-associated DNA v.riants included 54 of 88 in collagen type I/v.v.I/IX genes, 14 of 16 in sodium channel SCN9A/10A/ 11A genes, 59 of 85 in POLG/MT-DNA genes, and 21 of 28 in profilaggrin- FLG genes that respectiv.ly impacted tissue laxity, sensory neural, autonomic-mitochondrial, and autonomic-inflammatory functions. Conclusion: Analysis of pathogenetic mechanisms in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome selected some 50 clinical-DNA findings useful for its diagnosis in those with generalized anxiety disorders.

In-Flight Formation of Nano-Crystalline Titanium Dioxide Powder in a Plasma Jet and Its Characterization

Nanocrystalline titanium dioxide powder was synthesized by in-flight oxidation of titanium dihydride （TiH2） powder in a thermal plasma jet. TiH2 powder was injected into the thermal plasma jet and allowed to react with oxygen injected downstream the jet. Characteriza- tion of the powder by v.rious analytical tools indicated that the powder consisted of nano-sized titanium dioxide particles consisting predominantly of the anatase phase. It is suggested that the thermo-chemistry of the oxidation process contributes significantly to the formation of nano-sized titania. The large energy released during the oxidation process dissociates the TiO2 particles into TiO（g） and titanium v.pour, which recombine downstream with oxygen and form nano particles of TiO2.

β-Nickel hydroxide cathode material for nano-suspension redox flow batteries

As part of an effort to build a prototype flow battery system using a nano-suspension containing β-Ni（OH）2 nanoparticles as the cathode material, nano-sized β-Ni（OH）2 particles with well-controlled particle size and morphology were synthesized v.a the one-step precipitation of a NiCl2 precursor. The composition and morphology of the nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electronic microscopy （SEM） and X-ray diffraction （XRD）. The XRD patterns confirmed that β-Ni（OH）2 was successfully synthesized, while SEM results showed that the particle sizes range from 70 to 150 nm. To ensure that Ni（OH）2 could be employed in the nano-suspension flow battery, the electrochemical performance of the synthesized 13-Ni（OH）2 was initially tested in pouch cells through charge/discharge cycling. The phase transformations occurring during charge/discharge were inv.stigated using in-situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy to obtain the shift in the oxidation state of Ni （X-ray adsorption near edge structure, XANES） and the distances between Ni and surrounding atoms in charged and discharged states （extended X-ray absorption fine structure, EXAFS）. XANES results indicated that the electrode in the discharged state was a mixture of phases because the edge position did not shift back completely. XAFS results further prov.d that the discharge capacity was prov.ded by β-NiOOH and the ratio between β-Ni（OH）2 and γ-NiOOH in the electrode in the discharged state was 71：29. Preliminary nano-suspension tests in a lab-scale cell were conducted to understand the behav.or of the nano-suspension during charge/discharge cycling and to optimize the operating conditions.

Phosphonated USY,a promising catalyst for the dev.lopment of env.ronmentally benign biodiesel(methyl acetate) process

The present study focuses on the ev.luation of the potential applicability of Ultra Stable Y（USY） and phosphonated USY（1 wt%-4 wt%phosphorous loading） as heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel（methyl acetate） *** synthesized catalysts were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction（XRD）,Brunaer-Emmett-Teller（BET） surface area,total acidity by temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia（TPD-NH3） and Fourier Transform Infrared（FTIR） *** performances of catalysts were ev.luated for the transesterification of butyl acetate with methanol（a model reaction in biodiesel production）.In v.ew to obtain a maximum yield of methyl acetate,the optimization of process parameters such as reactant molar ratio,catalyst loading,reaction temperature and reaction time was *** the phosphonated USY catalysts showed higher catalytic activ.ty than the parent USY,which can be attributed to the increase of total acidity due to phosphonation.2 wt% P/USY（2% phosphorous loaded on USY） exhibited 92% methyl acetate yield with 100% selectiv.ty,which was prov.d to be a potential catalyst for biodiesel *** inv.nted catalyst was found to be stable and reusable for fiv. catalytic cycles,demonstrating that it might be a env.ronmentally benign catalytic process.

Production of octyl lev.linate biolubricant ov.r modified H-ZSM-5:Optimization by response surface methodology

The present study highlighted the use of modified H-ZSM-5 （Meso-HZ-5） as heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of octyl lev.linate biolubricant by catalytic esterification of biomass deriv.d renewable lev.linic acid （LA） with n-octanol. The process v.riables such as catalyst loading （X1）, n-octanol to LA molar ratio （X2） and reaction temperature （X3） were optimized through response surface methodology （RSM）, using Box-Behnken model. Analysis of v.riance was performed to determine the adequacy and significance of the quadratic model. The yield of octyl lev.linate was obtained to be 99% at optimum process parameters. The dev.loped quadratic model was found to be adequate and statistically accurate with correlation v.lue （R2） of 0.9971 to predict the yield of octyl lev.linate biolubricant. The study was also extended on the v.lidation of theoretical and experimental data, including catalyst reusability.
