Nonfibrillar amyloid-βoligomers(AβOs)are a major component of drusen,the sub-retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE)extracellular deposits characteristic of age-related macular degeneration(AMD),a common cause of global *** report that AβOs induce RPE degeneration,a clinical hallmark of geographic atrophy(GA),a vision-threatening late stage of AMD that is currently *** demonstrate that AβOs induce activation of the NlRP3 inflammasome in the mouse RPE in vivo and that RPE expression of the purinergic ATP receptor P2RX7,an upstream mediator of NlRP3 inflammasome activation,is required for AβO-induced RPE *** classes of small molecule inflammasome inhibitors—nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors(NRTIs)and their antiretrovirally inert modified analog Kamuvudines—both inhibit AβOs-induced RPE *** findings crystallize the importance of P2RX7 and NlRP3 in a disease-relevant model of AMD and identify inflammasome inhibitors as potential treatments for GA.

In Vitro Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Ethanolic Extract of the Whole Plant of Evolvulus Alsinoides(l.) l.

Objective： To identify the free radical scavenging activity of ethanolic extract of Evolvulus alsinoides. Methods： The free radical scavenging activity was evaluated by in vitro methods like reducing power assay, total antioxidant activity, 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl （DPPH） reduction, superoxide radical scavenging activity, 2,2＇-azinobis-（3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid）（ABTS＊） scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging assay, and nitric oxide radical scavenging assay, which were studied by using ascorbic acid as standard. Results： The extract showed significant activities in all antioxidant assays compared with the reference antioxidant ascorbic acid. The total antioxidant activity as well as the reducing power was also found to increase in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion： Evolvulus alsinoides may act as a chemopreventive agent, providing antioxidant properties and offering effective protection from free radicals.

In this paper we derive finite forms of the summation formulas for bilateral basic hypergeometric series 3ψ3,4ψ4 and 5ψ*** therefrom obtain the summation formulae obtained recently by Wenchang CHU and Xiaoxia *** applications of these summation formulae,we deduce the well-known Jacobi’s two and four square theorems,a formula for the number of representations of an integer n as sum of four triangular numbers and some theta function identities.

Enhanced visible-light-driven photocatalysis of Bi2YO4CI heterostructures functionallized by bimetallic RhNi nanoparticles

Bismuth-based Sillen-Aurivillius compounds are being explored as efficient photocatalyst materials for the degradation of organic pollutants due to their unique layered structure that favours effective separation of electron-hole pairs. In this work, we synthesized Sillen-Aurivillius-related Bi2YO4Cl with the bandgap of 2.5 eV by a simple solid-state reaction and sensitized with rhodium nickel (RhNi) nanoparticles (NPs) to form the RhNi/Bi2YO4Cl heterostructure. Photocatalytic activities of BiOCl, Bi2YO4Cl and the RhNi/Bi2YO4Cl heterostructure were examined for the degradation of rhodamine- 6G under visible-light illumination. Results demonstrated that the photocatalytic dye degradation efficiency of RhNi/Bi2YO4Cl heterostructures is higher than those of BiOCl and Bi2YO4Cl, attributed to the synergistic molecular-scale alloying effect of bimetallic RhNi NPs. The plausible mechanism for the degradation of rhodamine-6G and the effective electron-hole pair utilization mechanism were discussed.

Momordica charantia trypsin inhibitor Ⅱ inhibits growth and development of Helicoverpa armigera

Bitter gourd （Momordica charantia l.） seeds contain several squash-type serine proteinase inhibitors （PIs）, which inhibit the digestive proteinases of the polyphagous insect pest Helicoverpa armigera. In the present work isolation of a DNA sequence encoding the mature peptide of a trypsin inhibitor McTI-Ⅱ, its cloning and expression as a recombinant protein using Pichia pastoris have been reported. Recombinant McTI-Ⅱ inhibited bovine trypsin at 1 ： 1 molar ratio, as expected, but did not inhibit chymotrypsin or elastase. McTI-Ⅱ also strongly inhibited trypsin-like proteinases （81% inhibition） as well as the total proteolytic activity of digestive proteinases （70% inhibition） from the midgut of H. armigera larvae. The insect larvae fed with McTI-Ⅱ-incorporated artificial diet suffered over 70% reduction in the average larval weight after 12 days of feeding. Moreover, ingestion of McTI-Ⅱ resulted in 23% mortality in the larval population. The strong antimetabolic activity of McTI-Ⅱ toward H. armigera indicates its probable use in developing insect tolerance in susceptible plants.

Impact of Climate Change on Vegetation Distribution and Net Primary Productivity of Forests of Himalayan River Basins: Brahmaputra, Koshi and Indus

The impacts of climate change in terms of forest vegetation shifts and Net Primary Productivity (NPP) changes are assessed for Brahmaputra, Koshi and Indus river basins for the mid (2021-2050) and long (2071-2100) terms for RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios. Two Dynamical Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs), Integrated BIosphere Simulator (IBIS) and (lund Postdam and Jena (lPJ), have been used for this purpose. The DGVMs are driven by the ensemble mean climate projections from 5 climate models that contributed to the CMIP5 data base. While both DGVMs project vegetation shifts in the forest areas of the basins, there are large differences in vegetation shifts projected by IBIS and lPJ. This may be attributed to differing representation of land surface processes and to differences in the number of vegetation types (Plant Functional Types) defined and simulated in the two models. However, there is some agreement in NPP changes as projected by both IBIS and lPJ, with IBIS mostly projecting a larger increase in NPP for the future scenarios. Despite the uncertainties with respect to climate change projections at river basin level and the differing impact assessments from different DGVMs, it is necessary to assess the “vulnerability” of the forest ecosystems and forest dependent communities to current climate risks and future climate change and to develop and implement resilience or adaptation measures. Assessment of the “vulnerability” and designing of the adaptation strategies could be undertaken for all the forested grids where both IBIS and lPJ project vegetation shifts.

目的:探讨有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物抑制志贺菌病的作用。方法:首先将有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物做初步化学筛选。使用2种革兰阴性菌、2种革兰阳性菌,2种抗生素耐药的志贺杆菌和1种非抗生素耐药的志贺杆菌经纸片扩散法进行体外抗菌筛选。蓖麻油诱发 Wistar大鼠腹泻后,以洛哌丁胺作为标准对照药进行有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物止泻实验。通过人工胃模型测定有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物的体外抗酸作用,并且对其中和胃酸的效率、容量、体积和氢离子消耗进行评估。结果:有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物中含有酚类、黄酮类、生物碱等化学成分,以及脂肪和油脂。有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物被证明对包括抗生素耐药的志贺杆菌在内的4个菌株具有较强的抑制作用,并且其抗腹泻作用具有剂量依赖性。当服用最低剂量100mg/kg时,其抗腹泻效果比标准对照药洛哌丁胺更好(P<0.01)。体内实验结果显示有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物具有轻微的抗酸作用。结论:有梗石龙尾甲醇提取物具有轻微的抗酸活性以及强效的抗菌、止泻作用,这对于开发抗痢疾、抗腹泻作用的草药具有一定的意义。
