Sensitivity,specificity and predictive values of anterior chamber tap in cases of bacterial endophthalmitis

Background:To assess the sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value and negative predictive value of anterior chamber tap for the diagnosis of bacterial endophthalmitis on a population with high ***:Retrospective,single centre,case series *** reviewed all medical records with clinical diagnosis of bacterial endophthalmitis in our hospital from January 1st,2000 to December 31st *** each record,we documented general demographic data,best corrected visual acuity and vitreous and aqueous tap microbiological *** cases were further divided according to the endophthalmitis aetiology to perform individual calculations of sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value,negative predictive value,accuracy and *** used the results of the vitreous tap as the gold standard for diagnosis of bacterial *** excluded those records in which the aqueous and vitreous samples were not taken simultaneously or had an incomplete microbiological *** were assessed with chi squared statistics,with an alpha value of 0.05 for statistical ***:A total of 190 cases fulfilled the inclusion/exclusion *** culture rate from vitreous samples was 64.74%.Positive culture rate from aqueous sample was 32.11%.Bacteria isolated from aqueous samples matched those isolated from vitreous samples 78.68%of the *** overall sensitivity was 38.21%,specificity:75.51%,positive predictive value:79.66%,negative predictive value:32.74%(p=0.08).Subgroup analysis showed that anterior chamber taps in cases of post-surgical endophthalmitis had a moderate to low sensitivity(37.73%),high specificity(93%)and high positive predictive value(95%)(pficity of anterior chamber tap are low and should not be used for critical therapeutic decisions in patients with suspected bacterial *** cases of post-surgical endophthalmitis,the result of an anterior chamber tap

The misfolding and subsequent aggregation of proteins into amyloid fibrils underlie the onset of a variety of human disorders collectively known as ***(TTR)is one of the>30 amyloidogenic proteins identified to date and is associated with a group of highly debilitating and life-threatening disorders called TTR amyloidosis(ATTR).ATTR comprises senile systemic amyloidosis,which is linked to wild-type(WT)TTR aggregation,and hereditary ATTR,a dominantly inherited disorder caused by the deposition of one of over 130 TTR genetic *** systemic amyloidosis is a prevalent age-related amyloidosis,affecting up to 25%of the population over 80 years of age,and is characterized by the build-up of TTR fibrils in the *** hereditary ATTR,the clinical presentation is highly heterogeneous,primarily affecting the peripheral nervous system(familial amyloid polyneuropathy-fAP)or the heart(familial amyloid cardiomyopathy).In rare cases,aggregation develops in the central nervous system,giving rise to a phenotype known as familial leptomeningeal amyloidosis(Carroll et al.,2022).

Technical Proposal for the Recovery of Iron Tailings in Dams in the Context of a Circular Economy

The objective of this study is to present a tailings recovery project in a dam located in northern Brazil;the tailings in this dam have high concentrations of iron. The sustainable recovery of mineral resources can be achieved using the dredging method. The methodology used was based on two drilling projects conducted in 2001 and 2010;these projects contained samples with information on the chemical composition and particle size fractions. The dredging system was designed to operate with four cutter suction dredgers. for operation, factors such as productivity, pumping distance and material flow were considered. The material contained in the dam was estimated using the natural neighborhood interpolation method;this resulted in approximately 192 million tons of tailings, with an average iron content of 63.37%. Based on these data, a 13-year mining plan was prepared, with the potential to maximize the use of the tailings and reduce the environmental impacts, thus contributing to a circular economy.

The 7 ka old Qixiangzhan lava flow(QXZ,Tianchi volcano)represents the last eruptive event before the 946 CE,caldera-forming‘Millennium’eruption(ME).Petrographic,whole rock,mineral composition,Sr-Nd isotopic data on QXZ show that:(a)the lava consists of two components,constituted by comenditic obsidian fragments immersed in a continuous,aphanitic component;(b)both components have the same geochemical and isotopic variations of the ME *** QXZ and ME comendites result from fractional crystallization and crustal assimilation *** temperature of the QXZ magma was about 790℃ and the depth of the magma reservoir around 7 km,the same values as estimated for *** had a viscosity of 10^(5.5)-10^(9) Pa s and a velocity of 3-10 km/*** emplacement time was 0.5-1.6yr and the flow rate 0.48-1.50 m^(3)/*** values lie within the range estimated for other rhyolitic flows *** QXZ lava originated through a mixed explosive-effusive activity with the obsidian resulting from the ascent of undercooling,degassing and the fragmentation of magma along the conduit walls,whereas the aphanitic component testifies to the less undercooled and segregated flow at the center of the *** QXZ lava demonstrates the extensive history of the ME magma chamber.

This work addresses challenges and opportunities in the evaluation of solar power plant impacts,with a particular focus on thermal effects of solar plants on the environment and ***-scale solar power plants are often sited in arid or desert habitats,which tend to include fauna and flora that are highly sensitive to changes in temperature and *** understanding of both shortwave(solar)and longwave(terrestrial)radiation processes in solar power plants is complete enough to render the modeling of radiation fluxes with high confidence for most *** contrast to radiation,the convective environment in large-scale solar power plants is much more difficult to *** direction,wind speed,turbulence intensity,dust concentration,ground condition,panel configuration density,orientation and distribution throughout the solar field,all affect the local environment,the balance between radiation and convection,and in turn,the performance and thermal impact of solar power *** the temperatures of the two sides of photovoltaic(PV)panels depend on detailed convection-radiation balances,the uncertainty associated with convection affects the heat and mass transfer balances as *** balances are critically important in estimating the thermal impact of large-scale solar farms on local *** we discuss outstanding issues related with these transfer processes for utility-scale solar generation and highlight potential pathways to gain useful knowledge about the convective environment directly from solar farms under operating conditions.

Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

Magnitude, spatial patterns and drivers of methane fluxes from coastal salt marshes and mangrove forests in China

Methane（CH4） is a highly potent greenhouse gas due to its high radiative forcing and global warming *** the magnitude, spatial patterns, and drivers of CH4emission from wetlands at the regional scale is crucial for formulating suitable strategies to mitigate future climate change. In this study, we synthesized the CH4flux data reported for major plant communities in the coastal salt marshes and mangrove forests in China and produced a spatial map of CH4fluxes from the mangrove sediments and salt marshes in China based on the results of machine learning models. Moreover, we examined the main drivers of CH4flux from these coastal wetlands and estimated the annual CH4emissions from the salt marshes and mangrove forests in different coastal provinces of China using a bottom-up approach. Our results showed that the mean CH4fluxes from the salt marsh and mangrove ecosystems in China were 2.22±0.29 and 2.26±0.55 mg m-2h-1, respectively. Across China, the total annual CH4emission from salt marshes was 31,179.75 Mg CH4a-1, while that from mangroves was 5,533.97 Mg CH4a-1with the sediments contributing to 12.7%(701.64 Mg CH4a-1) of the total efflux. The salt marshes and mangroves in China accounted for 2.75% and 0.14%–0.15% of the global annual CH4emissions from these two ecosystems,respectively. Moreover, we found that CH4emissions from the salt marshes and mangroves could offset the cooling impact arising from net carbon dioxide uptake by 88% and 53%, respectively, over a 100-year time scale. Mean annual temperature, soil moisture, and soil organic carbon content were the main factors controlling CH4emissions from these coastal ***, we found that CH4fluxes from the salt marshes in China decreased with latitude, which implied a possible increase in marsh CH4emission in response to global warming that should be considered carefully when developing nature-based climate solutions to achieve national goals for carbon neutrality.

By using the ^(3)P_(0) pair creation model,we provide a detailed derivation of the transition matrix for a baryon decaying into a meson-baryon *** analysis was successfully conducted for a meson in[***,***,and ***,***.B 715,322(2012),and we extend the same formalism to the baryon sector,focusing on the △(1232)→πN strong decay width because all hadrons involved in the reaction are very well established,the two hadrons in the final state are stable and require no further analysis,all quarks are light and thus equivalent,and the decay width of the process is relatively well *** a very common Rayleigh-Ritz variational method to solve the 2-and 3-body Schodinger bound-state equation in which the hadron's radial wave functions are expanded in terms of a Gaussian basis,we can relate the expression of the invariant matrix element with the mean-square radii of hadrons involved in the *** use their experimental measures in such a way that only the strength of the quark-antiquark pair creation from the vacuum is a free *** is then taken from our previous study on strong decay widths in the meson sector[***,***,and ***,***.B 715,322(2012),and the obtained results are compatible with the experimental results for the calculated △(1232)→πN decay *** requiring the calculation of additional baryon strong decays,a feasible avenue towards a unified description of both baryon and meson strong decay widths within a single constituent quark model framework may be ***,this research has been developed to lay the foundation for a novel raft of applications to exotic hadrons,i.e.,the description of the baryon's coupling to meson-baryon thresholds,one of the mechanisms that is considered to be responsible for providing either a large renormalization to naive states or genuine dynamicallygenerated meson-baryon molecules.
