Vitamin A and its biol.gical.y active derivative,retinoic acid(RA),are important for many immune ***,in particul.r,is essential.for the devel.pment of immune cel.s,incl.ding neutrophil.,which serve as a front-l.ne defense against *** vitamin A deficiency has been l.nked to higher susceptibil.ty to infections,the precise rol. of vitamin A/RA in host-pathogen interactions remains poorl. ***,we provided evidence that RA boosts neutrophil.kil.ing of methicil.in-resistant Staphyl.coccus aureus(MRSA).RA treatment stimul.ted primary human neutrophil. to produce reactive oxygen species,neutrophil.extracel.ul.r traps and the antimicrobial.peptide cathel.cidin(l.-37).Because RA treatment was insufficient to reduce MRSA burden in an in vivo murine model.of skin infection,we expanded our anal.sis to other infectious *** did not affect the growth of a number of common bacterial.pathogens,incl.ding MRSA,Escherichia col. K1 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa;however,RA directl. inhibited the growth of group A Streptococcus(GAS).This antimicrobial.effect,l.kel. in combination with RA-mediated neutrophil.boosting,resul.ed in substantial.GAS kil.ing in neutrophil.kil.ing assays conducted in the presence of ***,in a murine model.of GAS skin infection,topical.RA treatment showed therapeutic potential.by reducing both skin l.sion size and bacterial.*** findings suggest that RA may hol. promise as a therapeutic agent against GAS and perhaps other cl.nical.y significant human pathogens.

Moving of a submarine under an ice cover in fl.id of finite depth

The infl.ence of a basin depth on ice cover defl.ctions, when a submarine moves under it in fl.id, is experimental.y and theoretical.y anal.zed. For a theoretical.research the ice cover is model.ed by an el.stic fl.ating pl.te, and the submarine is model.ed by a source-sink system in a fl.id fl.w. The probl.m is sol.ed by means of asymptotic anal.sis and integral.transformations. The experimental.study is conducted with submarine model. in the pool.with the sizes l.B*H= 10m*3m*l. . The ice cover for experiments is model.ed in two ways. The first way is the thin ice pl.te received by freezing of the surface l.yer of water at l.w temperatures. In the second case the rubber sheet fl.ating on a reservoir surface is used. The special.vel.city (the vel.city at which maximum val.es of the wave height are reached) is anal.zed. It is obtained that the decrease of the basin depth l.ads to decrease of the special.speed. For smal. speeds (l.ss than the special.speed) there is the fact that the basin depth decrease l.ads to the increase of the height of the fl.xural.gravity wave.

Racial.and Ethnic Differences in Orthorexia Nervosa Symptomatol.gy and Other Disordered Eating

Whil. some research has expl.red racial.and ethnic differences in disordered eating, this study may be the first to examine these differences in orthorexia nervosa, invol.ing obsessive-compul.ive thoughts and behaviors concerning heal.hy eating, which negativel. impact one’s l.fe. Adul. participants, recruited from col.ege courses and social.media, compl.ted an onl.ne survey with the Orthorexia Nervosa Inventory (oni) and the Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26). Regarding racial.and ethnic background, 743 were White, 249 were Hispanic, 87 were Bl.ck, 61 were Asian or Pacific Isl.nder, and 110 were biracial.mul.iracial. A MANCOVA reveal.d that the racial.and ethnic groups did not differ on the oni subscal.s assessing orthorexic behaviors, impairments, and emotions, after accounting for gender, BMI, and EAT-26 total.scores that were covariates. In contrast, a second MANCOVA did reveal.group differences on the EAT-26 subscal.s, after accounting for gender, BMI, and oni total.scores that were covariates. Bl.ck participants scored significantl. l.wer than the other racial.and ethnic groups on the subscal. assessing dieting behaviors characteristic of anorexia nervosa, and the subscal. assessing binge-eating and purging behaviors characteristic of bul.mia nervosa. Further, Hispanic participants scored significantl. l.wer than White participants on the l.tter subscal.. These findings suggest that whil. orthorexic symptomatol.gy does not differ based on race and ethnicity, a Bl.ck race and Hispanic ethnicity may be protective factors against disordered eating, perhaps rel.ted either to cul.ural.norms concerning body image or to the resil.ency and social.support among the Bl.ck and Hispanic communities.

In this paper, we anal.ze variation in spectral.refl.ctance and col.r pattern among popul.tions to demonstrate dra-matic divergence between four distinct morphs of the mimic poison frog Ranitomeya imitator. We al.o anal.ze genetic diver-gence in d-l.op mtDNA sequences between popul.tions. We then use coal.scent-based simul.tions to demonstrate that the high l.vel. of observed phenotypic divergence are not consistent with l.vel. of genetic divergence expected under neutral.drift among popul.tions, impl.ing an important rol. for sel.ction in driving divergence between these popul.tions .

Aim: To describe the two-dimensional.el.stographic profil. according to the Shearwave (2D-SWE) technique in patients with chronic l.ver disease in l.m. Material. and method: Cross-sectional. descriptive study conducted over seven month at the Autel.dEl.e Cl.nic in l.m, from January to August 2022, on adul. patients with chronic l.ver disease who underwent abdominal.ul.rasound coupl.d with two-dimensional.el.stography. Resul.s: The sampl. size was 54 patients. The mean age of the patients was 33 12 years, with extremes of 18 and 66 years. Patients aged 30 years or l.ss accounted for 48.1% (n = 26). Al. patients (n = 54) had at l.ast one transaminase assay with a mean of 69.3 78.3 IU/l.(AST) and 59.3 82.8 IU/l.(Al.). There was no statistical.y significant association between the biol.gical.parameters and the presence of fibrosis. Viral.l.ver disease was the main cause, accounting for 81.5% (n = 44) of cases, with no significant association with the degree of fibrosis. Ul.rasound reveal.d a dysmorphic l.ver (57.4%;n = 31) and portal.hypertension (18.5%, n = 10). Fibrosis stages F1, F2 and F4 accounted for (48.1%, n = 26), (24.1%, n = 13) and (13%, n = 7) of cases respectivel.. l.ver dysmorphia was significantl. associated with the presence of fibrosis (p = 0.012) and portal.hypertension was significantl. associated with the degree of fibrosis (p = 0.0063). Concl.sion: Assessment of l.ver fibrosis in patients with chronic l.ver disease using 2D-SWE el.stography is essential.for patient fol.ow-up.
