Scanning electrochemical microscopy(SECM)and scanning vibrating electrode technique(SVET)were used to investigate the electrochemical behaviour of.the top surf.ce of.the 2098-T351 alloy welded by f.iction stir welding(f.W).The SVET technique was ef.icient in identif.ing the cathodic and anodic weld *** welding joint(WJ),which comprises the thermomechanically af.ected zone(TMAZ)and the stir zone(SZ),was cathodic relative to the heated af.ected zone(HAZ)and the base metal(BM).The reactivities of.the welding joint at the advancing side(AS)and the retreating side(RS)were analyzed and compared using SECM technique in the competition mode by monitoring the dissolved oxygen as a redox mediator in 0.005 mol L^-1 NaCl *** RS was more electrochemically active than the AS,and these results were correlated with the microstructural f.atures of.the welded alloy.

Wear tests were carried out to study the ef.ect of.the hardness and roughness with various counterf.ce materials on UHMWPE wear behaviour. The materials used as counterf.ces were based on varieties of.CoCrMo: 1) f.rged (hand-polished) CoCrMo, 2) f.rged (mass-f.nished) CoCrMo, and 3) cast (mass-f.nished) CoCrMo. Additionally, two coatings were proposed: 1) a CoCrMo coating applied to the f.rged CoCrMo alloy by means of.physical vapour deposition (PVD), and 2) a ZrO2 coating applied to the f.rged CoCrMo alloy by means of.plasma-assisted chemical vapour deposition (PACVD). The reciprocating pin-on-f.at (RPOf. device f.r pin-on-disk wear testing was used f.r this study. The worn surf.ces were observed using optical, atomic f.rce and scanning electron microscopes.

Many observations in and model simulations f.r northern basins have conf.rmed an increased streamf.ow f.om degrading permaf.ost,while the streamf.ow has declined in the source area of.the Yellow River(SAYR,above the Tanag hydrological station)on the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,West *** and to what extent does the degrading permaf.ost change the f.ow in the SAYR?According to seasonal regimes of.hydrological processes,the SAYR is divided intof.ur sub-basins with varied permaf.ost extents to detect impacts of.permaf.ost degradation on the Yellow River *** show that permaf.ost degradation may have released appreciable meltwater f.r recharging *** potential release rate of.ground-ice melt-water in the Sub-basin 1(the headwater area of.the Yellow River(HAYR),above the Huangheyan hydrological station)is the highest(5.6 mm per year),contributing to 14.4%of.the annual Yellow River streamf.ow at ***/intra-and annual shif.s of.streamf.ow,a possible signal f.r the marked alteration of.hydrological processes by permaf.ost degradation,is observed in the HAYR,but the shif.s are minor in other sub-basins in the *** hydraulic connectivity is expected to occur during and af.er certain degrees of.permaf.ost *** impacts of.permaf.ost degradation on the annual Yellow River streamf.ow in the SAYR at Tanag,i.e.,f.om the meltwater of.ground-ice,is estimated at 4.9%that of.the annual Yellow River discharge at Tanag,yet with a high uncertainty,due to neglecting of.the improved hydraulic connections f.om permaf.ost degradation and the f.ow generation conditions f.r the ground-ice *** evapotranspiration,substantial weakening of.the Southwest China Autumn Rain,and anthropogenic disturbances may largely account f.r the declined streamf.ow in the SAYR.

Purpose: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is prevalent among the population with type 2 diabetes, and treatment approaches are limited. The combination of.L-methylf.late-methylcobalamin-pyridoxal-5-phospate (LMf.MC-PP, Metanx?) is a prescription medical f.od that has demonstrated signif.cant improvements in sensory perception and quality of.lif. as well as reduced neuropathic pain in patients with DPN. The present study examined the ef.ects of.LMf.MC-PP on sensory perception and epidermal nerve f.ber density (ENf.) among patients with conf.rmed DPN. Methods: Patients with type 2 diabetes and diagnosed with diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy, based on loss of.vibratory perception, warm-cold discrimination or monof.lament sensation, underwent bilateral lower extremity ENf. assessments via skin punch biopsy and were started on LMf.MC-PP. ENf. and monof.lament testing were repeated at 6 months. f.ndings: Of.123 patients evaluated, all had monof.lament testing at baseline and 6 months and 122 had assessments at both time points. A signif.cant (p f. f.om baseline to 6 months was observed. A signif.cant (p = 0.0001) improvement in monof.lament testing also was observed. Overall, more patients had intact sensation af.er 6 months, with 60 (48.8%) of.123 patients having positive monof.lament test at baseline as compared to 95 (77.2%) positive af.er 6 months. An analysis of.the association between improvements in ENf. and monof.lament testing f.und that the two tended to occur together, and this was signif.cant (p f.r the right limb. Implications: Clinically important and statistically signif.cant improvements in ENf. and monof.lament sensation were associated with LMf.MC-PP in patients with DPN. When compared to the decrease in ENf. expected among DPN patients, the improvements are even more clinically signif.cant. These f.ndings should be validated in a larger, placebo-controlled study.

Graph neural networks(GNNs)have received intense interest as a rapidly expanding class of.machine learning models remarkably well-suited f.r materials *** date,a number of.successf.l GNNs have been proposed and demonstrated f.r systems ranging f.om crystal stability to electronic property prediction and to surf.ce chemistry and heterogeneous ***,a consistent benchmark of.these models remains lacking,hindering the development and consistent evaluation of.new models in the materials ***,we present a workf.ow and testing platf.rm,MatDeepLearn,f.r quickly and reproducibly assessing and comparing GNNs and other machine learning *** use this platf.rm to optimize and evaluate a selection of.top perf.rming GNNs on several representative datasets in computational materials *** our investigations we note the importance of.hyperparameter selection and f.nd roughly similar perf.rmances f.r the top models once *** identif. several strengths in GNNs over conventional models in cases with compositionally diverse datasets and in its overall f.exibility with respect to inputs,due to learned rather than def.ned *** several weaknesses of.GNNs are also observed including high data requirements,and suggestions f.r f.rther improvement f.r applications in materials chemistry are discussed.

Background:Ovarian f.llicular f.uid inf.uences f.llicle and oocyte growth,but the f.uctuation of.its protein content during f.lliculogenesis has not been comprehensively *** we used a shotgun approach and bioinf.rmatics analyses to investigate and compare the proteomes of.porcine f.llicular f.uid(pf.)obtained f.om small(6–12 mm)***:f.llicular f.uid samples containing highest estrogen levels were selected as non-atretic f.om small(SNA:26.1±15 ng/mL),medium(MNA:162±54 ng/mL),and large(LNA:290±37 ng/mL)f.llicles f.r proteomic *** detected 1627,1699,and 1756 proteins in SNA,MNA,and LNA samples,*** 60–63%of.total proteins were specif.c to each sample,11–13%were shared in pairwise comparisons,and 247 proteins were shared among all *** categorization indicated comparable gene ontology(GO)terms distribution per cellular component,molecular f.nction,and biological process categories across samples;however,the ranking of.highly signif.cantly enriched GO terms per category revealed dif.erences between *** patterns of.proteinto-protein interactions varied throughout f.llicle development,and proteins such as serine protease inhibitor,clade E(SERPINE);plasminogen activator,urokinase(PLAU);and plasminogen activator,urokinase receptor(PLAUR)appeared stage-specif.c to SNA,MNA,and LNA,***“complement and coagulation cascades”was the common major ***,properdin and f.bulin-1 were abundant proteins that appeared absent in LNA ***:This study provides extensive and f.nctional analyses of.the pf. proteome changes during f.lliculogenesis and of.ers the potential f.r novel biomarker discovery in pf. f.r oocyte quality assessment.

Prepaid energy meters have been widely adopted by utilities in dif.erent countries across the world as an innovative solution to the problem of.af.ordability and consumption management. However, the present smart card based systems have some inherent problems like added cost, low availability and lack of.security. In the f.ture Smart Grid paradigm, use of.smart meters can completely overhaul these prepaid systems by introducing centralized accounting, monitoring and credit-control f.nctions using state-of.the-art telecommunication technologies like WiMAX. In this paper we pro-pose a prepaid smart metering scheme f.r Smart Grid application based on centralized authentication and charging using the WiMAX prepaid accounting model. We then discuss its specif.c application to Demand Response and Roam-ing of.Electrical Vehicles.

Large amounts of.carbon dioxide(CO2) should be injected in deep saline f.rmations to mitigate climate change,implying geomechanical challenges that require f.rther *** build-up induced by CO2injection will decrease the ef.ective stresses and may af.ect f.ult *** ef.ects of.overpressure induced by CO2injection either in the hanging wall or in the f.ot wall on f.ult stability are ***2injection in the presence of.a low-permeable f.ult induces pressurization of.the storage f.rmation between the injection well and the *** low permeability of.the f.ult hinders f.uid f.ow across it and leads to smaller overpressure on the other side of.the *** variability in the f.uid pressure distribution gives rise to dif.erential total stress changes around the f.ult that reduce its *** a signif.cant pressure build-up induced by the f.ult,caprock stability around the injection well is not compromised and thus,CO2leakage across the caprock is unlikely to *** decrease in f.ult stability is similar regardless of.the side of.the f.ult where CO2is *** results show that f.ult core permeability has a signif.cant ef.ect on f.ult stability,becoming less af.ected f.r high-permeable *** appropriate pressure management will allow storing large quantities of.CO2without inducing f.ult reactivation.
