The Egyptia n mon goose (Herpestes ichneumon Linn aeus, 1758) is a medium-sized car nivore that experienced remarkable geographic expansion over the last 3 decades in the Iberian Peninsula. In this study, we investigated the association of species-related and abiotic factors with spleen weight (as a proxy for immunocompete nee) in the species. We assessed the relationship of body con dition, sex, age, seas on, and envir onmental conditi ons with splee n weight established for 508 hunted specimens. Our results indicate that the effects of sex and season outweigh those of all other variables, including body condition. Spleen weight is higher in males than in females, and heavier spleens are more likely to be found in spring, coinciding with the highest period of investment in reproduction due to mating, gestation, birth, and lactation. Coupled with the absence of an effect of body condition, our findi ngs suggest that splee n weight variation in this species is mostly influe need by lifehistory traits linked to reproduction, rather than overall energy availability, winter immunoenhancement, or energy partitioning effects, and prompt further research focusing on this topic.

“红黑”耦合沉积建造是中国北方中—新生代盆地(简称北方盆地)砂岩型铀矿的重要控矿要素之一,在勘查实践中得到了广泛证实和应用,指导发现找矿靶区和矿产地300余处,在成矿理论方面取得重要进展。本文系统总结了北方产铀盆地的60万余米铀矿岩芯钻探成果,通过典型矿床赋矿层沉积学、地球化学等对比研究,系统分析了北方盆地侏罗系、白垩系、新近系等赋矿层形成的沉积环境、物质组成等,进一步明确了制约成矿流体运移、铀矿物沉淀的赋矿层条件。结果显示:①北方盆地自侏罗纪以来,发育了Ⅰ中侏罗世—晚侏罗世早期(Bathonian-Oxfordian)、Ⅱ早白垩世早期(valanginian)、Ⅲ早白垩世晚期(Aptian)、Ⅳ晚白垩世早期(Cenomanian)、Ⅴ晚白垩世晚期—早古近纪(Campanian-Thanetian)、Ⅵ早新近纪(Aquitanian-Burdigalian)和Ⅶ晚新近纪(ZancleanPiacenzian)7期红层,与下伏富还原性组分的黑色层构成了典型的对偶沉积建造,为北方盆地大规模成矿奠定了赋矿层基础。②地球化学指标显示:红层中Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)比值介于0.29~1.47(n=78),黑层Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)比值介于0.57~53.96(n=223),赋矿层Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)比值介于1.00~26.45(n=52)。赋矿层、黑层Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)比值一般大于1,以发育黄铁矿、炭屑、油斑为特征,为相对较还原的环境。红层Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)比值一般小于1,以发育钙质结核为特征,为相对较强氧化的环境。③总有机碳含量显示红层为0~0.16%(n=107),含矿层为0.01%~2.65%(n=137),黑层为0.01%~2.66%(n=339),含矿层总有机碳含量略低于黑层,与铀矿的富集沉淀有密切关系。④砂岩型铀矿体呈“板状”或“楔状”产出于黑层顶部的灰色、灰绿色砂岩和细砂岩,甚至泥岩,红层为含氧含铀流体的运移通道,黑层为含氧含铀流体的富集沉淀的化学屏障。因此,北方盆地红层和黑层对偶沉积、旋回充填是大规模铀成矿必要的地层条件,这些认识打破常规思维,“红黑”旋回叠加导致了北方盆地多层成矿的现象,矿体一般呈板状就位于红层和黑层的过渡带,这对深入理解砂岩型铀矿成矿环境、成矿规律及成矿机理等工作和勘查工作部署具有重要实践意义。

Observation of nonlinear disclination states

Introduction of controllable deformations into periodic materials that lead to disclinations in their structure opens novel routes for construction of higher-order topological insulators hosting topological states at *** of these topological states is consistent with the bulk-disclination correspondence principle,and is due to the filling anomaly that results in fractional charges to the boundary unit *** far,topological disclination states were observed only in the linear regime,while the interplay between nonlinearity and topology in the systems with disclinations has been never studied *** report here on the experimental observation of the nonlinear photonic disclination states in waveguide arrays with pentagonal or heptagonal disclination cores inscribed in transparent optical medium using the fs-laser writing *** transition between nontopological and topological phases in such structures is controlled by the Kekulédistortion coefficient r with topological phase hosting simultaneously disclination states at the inner disclination core and spatially separated from them corner-I,corner-II,and extended edge states at the outer edge of the *** show that the robust nonlinear disclination states bifurcate from their linear counterparts and that location of their propagation constants in the gap and,hence,their spatial localization can be controlled by their *** disclination states can be efficiently excited by Gaussian input beams,but only if they are focused into the waveguides belonging to the disclination core,where such topological states *** results open new prospects for investigation of nonlinear effects in topological systems with disclinations and are relevant for different areas of science,including Bose-Einstein and polariton condensates,where potentials with the disclinations can be created.

Parallelization of an Implicit Algorithm for Multi-Dimensional Particle-in-Cell Simulations

Diclofenac sodium(DS) is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAIDs).NSAIDs are poorly removed during standard wastewater *** consequences of the presence of NSAIDs in rivers and lakes at 10-11–10-8 mol/L are not yet established;therefore, ecotoxicologists have focused their efforts on studying the effect of lowconcentration NSAIDs on fish and hydrobionts, and also on predicting the potential risks to *** provides some information about the bioeffects of some NSAID solutions in low concentrations but there is no physicochemical explanation for these *** the physicochemical patterns of DS solutions in the low range of concentrations and establishing an interconnection between the solutions’ physicochemical properties and bioeffects can provide a conceptually new and important source of information regarding the unknown effects of *** physicochemical properties and action of DS solutions on Ceriodaphnia affinis cladocerans,Paramecium caudatum infusoria, Chlorella vulgaris unicellular green algae, as well as on the growth of the roots of Triticum vulgare wheat seeds, were studied in the calculated concentration range of 1 × 10-3–1 × 10-18 mol/*** relationship between these phenomena was established using the certified procedures for monitoring the toxicity of natural water and *** was shown for the first time that water solutions of DS are dispersed systems in which the dispersed phase undergoes a rearrangement with dilution, accompanied by changes in its size and properties, which affects the nonmonotonic dependences of the system’s physicochemical properties and could cause nonmonotonic changes in action on hydrobionts in the low concentration range.

Information Interpretation of Heisenberg Uncertainty Relation

In this paper the following information interpretation of uncertainty relation is proposed: if one bit of information was extracted from the system as a result of the measurement process, then the measurement itself adds an additional uncertainty (chaos) into the system equaled to one bit. This formulation is developed by calculating of the Shannon information entropy for the classical N-slit interference experiment. This approach allows looking differently at several quantum phenomena. Particularly, the information interpretation is used for explanation of entangled photons diffraction picture compression.

Metal matrix composites tiles based on Ti-6Al-4v(Ti64)alloy,reinforced with 10,20,and 40(vol%)of either TiC or TiB particles were made using press-and-sinter blended elemental powder metallurgy(BEPM)and then bonded together into 3-layer laminated plates using hot isostatic pressing(HIP).The laminates were ballistically tested and demonstrated superior *** microstructure and properties of the laminates were analyzed to determine the effect of the BEPM and HIP processing on the ballistic properties of the layered *** effect of porosity in sintered composites on further diffusion bonding of the plates during HIP is analyzed to understand the bonding features at the interfaces between different adjacent layers in the *** ballistic performance of fabricated structures was explained by a significant reduction in the residual porosity of the BEPM products by their additional processing using HIP,which provides an unprecedented increase in the hardness of the layered *** is argued that the combination of the used two technologies,BEPM and HIP is principally complimentary for the materials in question with the abilities to solve the essential problems of each used individually.

Runaway electrons during subnanosecond breakdowns in high-pressure gases

The parameters of runaway electrons produced in nanosecond high-voltage discharges in different gases(air,nitrogen,sulphur hexafluoride,krypton,argon,methane,neon,hydrogen,helium)at atmospheric and higher pressure were *** optical analysis was also performed to investigate the ionisation dynamics in diffuse discharges in nitrogen and nitrogen-containing *** breakdown of a point-to-plane gap by nanosecond(≃2 ns)high-voltage(≃200 kv)pulses of negative voltage polarity and gas pressure above 0.1 MPa,a supershort avalanche electron beam(SAEB)was detected by a collector behind the flat *** pressure>0.1 MPa of nitrogen and other gases it is shown that the maximum pressure for SAEB registration decreases with increasing the voltage pulse rise ***,to detect a SAEB at atmospheric and higher gas pressure,one should use voltage pulses with an amplitude of hundred kilovolts and rise time of∼1 ns and *** experimental research in the dynamics of optical radiation from the discharge plasma shows that the breakdown in which runaway electrons are produced develops as an ionisation wave.

First results of turbulence investigation on Globus-M2 using radial correlation Doppler reflectometry

The first results of investigation of the turbulence structure using Doppler backscattering(DBS)on the Globus-M2 tokamak are presented.A one-channel DBS system with a variable probing frequency within the 18–26 GHz range was installed to investigate the edge plasma at normalized minor radiiρ=0.9–*** correlation Doppler reflectometry was used to study the changes in turbulence eddies after the LH *** analysis was applied to the phase derivative of complex in-phase and quadrature(IQ)signals of the DBS diagnostic as it contains information about the poloidal plasma rotation *** L-mode,the radial correlation length L_(r)is estimated to be 3 cm and after transition to H-mode reduces to approximately 2 *** modelling in a linear local approximation using code GENE indicates that the instability with positive growth rate at the normalized minor radiusρ=0.75 in L-mode and H-mode on Globus-M2 was the ion temperature gradient(ITG)mode.
