Perovskite LacoO_(3) is being increasingly explored as an effective low-cost electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Sr doping in LacoO_(3)(La1-xSrxcoO_(3))has been found to substantially increase its catalytic *** this work,we report a detailed study on the evolution of the electronic structure of La1-xSrxcoO_(3) with 0≤x≤1 and its correlation with electrocatalytic activity for the OER.A combination of X-ray photoemission spectroscopy(XPS)and X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS)was used to unravel the electronic.density of states(DOS)near the Fermi level(EF),which provide insights into the key electronic structure features for the enhanced OER catalytic *** analysis on the co L-edge XAS suggest that LacoO_(3) has a low spin state with t_(2g)^(6) e_(g)^(0) configuration at room *** implies that the high OER catalytic activity of LacoO_(3) should not be rationalized by the occupancy of eg=1 *** Sr^(2+) for La^(3+) in LacoO_(3) induces co4+oxidation states and effectively dopes hole states into the top of valence band.A semiconductor-to-metal transition is observed for x>0.2,due to the holeinduced electronic DOS at the EF and increased hybridization between co 3 d and O 2 *** an electronic modulation enhances the surface adsorption of the*OH intermediate and reduces the energy barrier for interfacial charge transfer,thus improving the OER catalytic activity in La_(1-x)Sr_(x)coO_(3).In addition,we found that the La_(1-x)Sr_(x)coO_(3) surface undergoes amorphization after certain period of OER measurement,leading to a partial deactivation of the *** Sr doping levels accelerated the amorphization process.

We evaluate and demonstrate ultra-broadband near-infrared noncollinear optical parametric amplification in two nonlinear crystals,bismuth borate(Bi BO)and yttrium calcium oxyborate(YcOB),which are not commonly used for this *** spectral bandwidth is of the microjoule level;the amplified signal is≥200 nm,capable of supporting sub-10 fs *** results,supported by numerical simulations,show that these crystals have a great potential as nonlinear media in both low-energy,few-cycle systems and high peak power amplifiers for terawatt to petawatt systems based on noncollinear optical parametric chirped pulse amplification(NOPcPA)or a hybrid.

People with visual impairments(PwVI)represent a heterogeneous social group who often experience significant disabling barriers in exercising their rights throughout their life *** dimensions of vulnerability of PwVI to disasters and climate change is an important issue to reduce the culture of neglected *** date,few studies have analyzed visual impairment and disaster risk reduction(DRR)in the countries of Latin America and the *** exploratory qualitative research project analyzed how to include PwVI in the DRR policies of *** research question is:how can we include PwVI in the discussion of DRR and climate change?The response to this question is part of a joint effort that involved a university,a hazard monitoring agency,and three institutions that work with *** three main results of the project are:(1)a mapping method to identify the exposure of PwVI to landslides and floods,and to create tactile risk maps tailored to them;(2)incorporating the voices of PwVI regarding their vulnerabilities and capacities with respect to disasters and climate change,achieved through shared interaction during 15 face to face interviews and one workshop attended by 100 people;and(3)an initiative of inclusive education to reduce some of the disabling barriers that intensify vulnerability.

Real-time ore sorting using color and texture analysis

Sensor-based ore sorting is a technology used to classify high-grade mineralized rocks from low-grade waste rocks to reduce operation *** ore-sorting algorithms using color images have been proposed in the past,but only some validate their results using mineral grades or optimize the algorithms to classify rocks in *** paper presents an ore-sorting algorithm based on image processing and machine learning that is able to classify rocks from a gold and silver mine based on their *** algorithm is composed of four main stages:(1)image segmentation and partition,(2)color and texture feature extraction,(3)sub-image classification using neural networks,and(4)a voting system to determine the overall class of the *** algorithm was trained using images of rocks that a geologist manually classified according to their mineral content and then was validated using a different set of rocks analyzed in a laboratory to determine their gold and silver *** proposed method achieved a Matthews correlation coefficient of 0.961 points,higher than other classification algorithms based on support vector machines and convolutional neural networks,and a processing time under 44 ms,promising for real-time ore sorting applications.

The role of systemic therapy in borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAc)remains a deadly disease,even in patients whose cancer is localized and *** resection provides the only option for cure,but long-term survival rates remain *** patients with borderline resectable(BR)disease who undergo upfront resection,many patients are either too unwell for subsequent adjuvant systemic therapy,develop recurrence soon after,or are found to have unresectable disease *** is increasing evidence for a neoadjuvant approach,using more conventional multi-agent chemotherapy regimens,which have demonstrated higher activity in the metastatic setting compared to single *** patients with locally advanced(LA)disease,which is unresectable by current definitions,there is mounting evidence that effective neoadjuvant systemic therapy is able to convert some patients’disease to a resectable state,offering the potential for long-term survival and *** we present a review of key trials focusing on prospective,randomized studies to provide high-level evidence supporting a neoadjuvant approach to both BR and LA ***,many knowledge gaps exist,such as the optimal neoadjuvant multi-agent chemotherapy regimen,the role of radiotherapy,and the safety and efficacy of adding immunotherapy to chemo/radiation *** challenges in determining the optimal approach to patients with BR or LA PDAc include not only overcoming the inherent difficulties in conducting complex,multidisciplinary,multicentre randomized trials in patients with a high-morbidity and mortality disease,but also trying to standardize disease definitions,treatment regimens,and outcome measures.

High-Performance and Multifunctional cement-Based composite Material

concrete is a continuously evolving material, and even the definition of high-performance concrete has changed over time. In this paper, high-performance characteristics of concrete material are considered to be those that support the desirable durability, resilience, and sustainability of civil infrastructure that directly impact our quality of life. It is proposed that high-performance material characteristics include tensile ductility, autogenous crack-width control, and material “greenness.” Furthermore, smart functionalities should be aimed at enhancing infrastructure durability, resilience, and sustainability by responding to changes in the surrounding environment of the structure in order to perform desirable functions, thus causing the material to behave in a manner more akin to certain biological materials. Based on recent advances in engineered cementitious composites (Eccs), this paper suggests that concrete embodying such high-performance characteristics and smart multifunctionalities can be designed, and holds the potential to fulfill the expected civil infrastructure needs of the 21st century. Highlights of relevant properties of Eccs are provided, and directions for necessary future research are indicated.

Electrical double-layer capacitors(EDLcs)consist of energy storage devices that present high-power and moderate energy *** electrolyte and electrode physicochemical properties are crucial for improving their overall energy storage ***,the stability of the EDLcs’materials is the primary focus of this *** energy storage depends on the specific capacitance,and also on the square of the maximum capacitive cell voltage(UMcV).Thus,electrodes with high specific surface area(SSA)and electrolytes with excellent electrochemical stability are commonly reported in the *** electrolytes are safer and green devices compared to other organic-based *** the other hand,their UMcVis reduced compared to other electrolytes(e.g.,organic-based and ionic liquids).In this sense,spanning the UMcVfor aqueous-based electrolytes is a’hot topic’***,the lack of protocols to establish reliable UMcVvalues has culminated in the publishing of several conflicting ***,we confirm that multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MWcNTs)housed in cells degrade and produce cO_(2) under abusive polarisation *** is probed by employing electrochemical techniques,in-situ FTIR and in-situ Raman *** these considerations,the current study uses spectro-electrochemical techniques to support the correct determination of the electrode and electrolyte stability conditions as a function of the operating electrochemical parameters.

Hematite(α-Fe_(2)O_(3))is an ideal oxide semiconductor candidate for photoelectrochemical(PEc)water *** of Fe_(2)O_(3)is known to benefit the PEc water oxidation efficiency,but despite extensive research efforts,the underlying mechanism still remains *** this work,we report a comprehensive study on the relationship between the electronic structure,interfacial reaction kinetics and PEc activity of Ti-doped Fe_(2)O_(3)*** results show that the interfacial charge transfer efficiency at the Fe_(2)O_(3)/electrolyte interface is the main factor in the significant increase of the PEc activity of doped Fe_(2)O_(3).Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy reveals that the interfacial charge transfer efficiency is determined by energy overlap between the water oxidation potential and energy distribution of an intermediate surface state that has been identified as Fe^(IV)=O groups on Fe_(2)O_(3)surface generated during PEc ***,the potential energy distribution of this intermediate surface state can be modulated by Ti doping,and a shift towards a more positive potential of the intermediate surface state increases the overlap with the water oxidation potential and thus enhances the kinetics of charge transfer for PEc water *** origin of such potential energy modulation is traced to the inductive effect from Ti-doping on the Fe^(3+)/Fe^(4+)redox transition and the Fe-O bond *** results provide new insight into the mechanism for the doping effect on the PEc water splitting,introducing new strategies to optimize the PEc activity by tuning the redox properties of active metal oxides.
