Virtually all drug interventions that have been successful pre-clinically in experimental stroke have failed to prove their efficacy in a dinical setting. This could be partly explained by the complexity and heterogeneity of human diseases as well as the associated co-morbidities which may render neuroprotective drugs less efficacious in dinical practice. One aspect of crucial importance in the physiopathology of stroke which is not completely understood is neuroinflammation. At the pres- ent time, it is becoming evident that subtle, but continuous neuroinflammation can provide the ground for disorders such as cerebral small vessel disease. Moreover, advanced aging and a number of highly prevalent risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes and atherosclerosis could act as ＂silent contributors＂ promoting a chronic proinflammatory state. This could aggravate the out- come of various pathological entities and can contribute to a number of subsequent post-stroke complications such as dementia, depression and neurodegeneration creating a pathological vicious cycle. Moreover, recent data suggests that the inflammatory process might be dosely linked with multiple neurodegenerative pathways related to depression. In addition, pro-inflammatory cyto- kines could play a central role in the pathophysiology of both depression and dementia.

The paper presents a distribution based identification procedure for off-line estimation of yield coefficients in a baker’s yeast *** procedure is a functional type method,which transforms a differential system of equations to an algebraic system in unknown *** relation between the state variables of the system is represented by functionals using techniques from distribution theory based on testing function from a finite dimensional fundamental *** main idea of this paper is to use a hierarchical structure of identification,which allows obtaining a linear algebraic system of equations in the unknown *** coefficients of this algebraic system are functionals depending on the input and state variables evaluated through some testing functions from distribution *** to the proposed procedure,first,only some state equations are evaluated throughout testing functions to obtain a set of linear equations in some *** results of this first stage of identification are utilized for expressing other parameters by linear *** process is repeated until all parameters are *** performances of the method are analyzed by some computer simulations.

Autophagy in colorectal cancer:An important switch from physiology to pathology

Colorectal cancer(CRC) remains a leading cause of cancer death in both men and women *** the factors and mechanisms that are involved in the multifactorial etiology of CRC,autophagy is an important transformational switch that occurs when a cell shifts from normal to *** recent years,multiple hypotheses have been considered regarding the autophagy mechanisms that are involved in *** currently accepted hypothesis is that autophagy has dual and contradictory roles in carcinogenesis,but the precise mechanisms leading to autophagy in cancer are not yet fully defined and seem to be context *** is a surveillance mechanism used by normal cells that protects them from the transformation to malignancy by removing damaged organelles and aggregated proteins and by reducing reactive oxygen species,mitochondrial abnormalities and DNA ***,autophagy also supports tumor formation by promoting access to nutrients that are critical to the metabolism and growth of tumor cells and by inhibiting cellular death and increasing drug *** studies in CRC have focused on several molecules,mainly microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3,beclin 1,and autophagy related 5,with conflicting *** effects were observed for some agents that modulate autophagy in CRC either alone or,more often,in combination with other *** extensive studies are needed in the future to clarify the roles of autophagy-related genes and modulators in colorectal carcinogenesis,and to develop potential beneficial agents for the prognosis and treatment of CRC.

AIM：To apply the multifractal analysis method as a quantitative approach to a comprehensive description of the microvascular network architecture of the normal human ***：Fifty volunteers were enrolled in this study in the Ophthalmological Clinic of Cluj-Napoca,Romania,between January 2012 and January 2014. A set of 100 segmented and skeletonised human retinal images,corresponding to normal states of the retina were studied. An automatic unsupervised method for retinal vessel segmentation was applied before multifractal analysis. The multifractal analysis of digital retinal images was made with computer algorithms,applying the standard boxcounting method. Statistical analyses were performed using the Graph Pad In Stat ***：The architecture of normal human retinal microvascular network was able to be described using the multifractal geometry. The average of generalized dimensions（D_q）for q=0,1,2,the width of the multifractal spectrum（Δα=α_（max）-α_（min））and the spectrum arms＇ heights difference（│Δf│）of the normal images were expressed as mean±standard deviation（SD）：for segmented versions,D_0=1.7014±0.0057; D_1=1.6507±0.0058; D_2=1.5772±0.0059; Δα=0.92441±0.0085; │Δf│= 0.1453±0.0051; for skeletonised versions,D_0=1.6303±0.0051; D_1=1.6012±0.0059; D_2=1.5531± 0.0058; Δα=0.65032±0.0162; │Δf│= 0.0238±0.0161. The average of generalized dimensions（D_q）for q=0,1,2,the width of the multifractal spectrum（Δα）and the spectrum arms＇ heights difference（│Δf│）of the segmented versions was slightly greater than the skeletonised ***：The multifractal analysis of fundus photographs may be used as a quantitative parameter for the evaluation of the complex three-dimensional structure of the retinal microvasculature as a potential marker for early detection of topological changes associated with retinal diseases.

Domestic cats represent one of the most common sources of indoor *** over the world,many households own cats,whose allergens are persistent and *** allergy itself is frequent,and its symptoms vary from rhinoconjunctivitis to life-threatening *** vitro diagnosis using precision medicine allergy immunoassays is important because natural cat dander extracts may differ in quality and quantity of some of the individual allergen components and other *** the component-resolved diagnosis of cat allergy,singleplex and multiplex specific immunoglobulin(Ig)E assays include use of the cat-specific major allergen,secretoglobin Fel d 1(as a species-specific molecule),other allergen components(such as lipocalins Fel d 4,cross-reacting with other animal similar molecules,and Fel d 7,present in small quantities in natural extracts),and serum albumin Fel d 2(related to the cat-pork syndrome).IgA Fel d 5 and IgM Fel d 6 are not available as allergen components in the current commercial IgE immunoassays,but they may impair the in vitro diagnostic evaluation of cat allergy because galactose-α1,3-galactose is an IgE-binding epitope of these native feline *** benefits of molecular-based cat allergy diagnosis are continually evaluated,as the role of recombinant allergen components already known is detailed and new other molecules of interest may be discovered in the future.
