Streaking artifacts on computed tomography (CT) images are caused by high density materials such as hip prosthesis, surgical clips and dental fillings. The artifacts can lead to compromised clinical outcome due to the inability to differentiate tumor volume and the uncertainties in dose calculation. The goals of our study are to evaluate how GE’s smart metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithm impacts image quality on phantoms and dosimetry on head and neck patients with dental fillings and pelvic patients with hip prosthesis. Treatment plans calculated on the MAR and non-MAR datasets with the same beam arrangements and fluence are compared. Dose differences between the MAR and non-MAR datasets are not significant. However, substantial reductions of metal artifacts are observed when MAR algorithm is applied. Planning on the MAR dataset is recommended since it improves image quality and CT number accuracy. It also negates the need to contour the artifacts and override the density which can be time consuming.

To decipher the transcriptomic regulation of the on-tree fruit maturation in pear cv.‘Abate Fetel’,a RNA-seq transcription analysis identified 8939 genes differentially expressed across four harvesting *** genes were grouped into 11 SOTA clusters based on their transcriptional pattern,of which three included genes upregulated while the other four were represented by downregulated *** ripening was furthermore investigated after 1 month of postharvest cold *** most important variation in fruit firmness,production of ethylene and volatile organic compounds were observed after 5 days of shelf-life at room temperature following cold *** role of ethylene in controlling the ripening of‘Abate Fetel’pears was furthermore investigated through the application of 1-methylcyclopropene,which efficiently delayed the progression of ripening by reducing fruit softening and repressing both ethylene and volatile *** physiological response of the interference at the ethylene receptor level was moreover unraveled investigating the expression pattern of 12 candidate genes,initially selected to validate the RNA-seq *** analysis confirmed the effective role of the ethylene competitor in downregulating the expression of cell wall(PG)and ethylene-related genes(ACS,ACO,ERS1,and ERS2),as well as inducing one element involved in the auxin signaling pathway(Aux/IAA),highlighting a possible cross-talk between these two *** expression patterns of these six elements suggest their use as molecular toolkit to monitor at molecular level the progression of the fruit on-tree maturation and postharvest ripening.

Purpose: The main aims of this study were to evaluate the quality of life of wildfire victims and compare it with that of a control sample of people unaffected by the disaster, and to identify confounder factors (previous psychiatric caseness, demographic factors and losses) which may influence the quality of life. Methods: This was a cross sectional case-control study. Participants belonged to an adult population which had taken part in a previous study 6 months after the disaster. The measured variables were: 1) quality of life using the WHOQOL-BREF measure, 2) previous psychiatric caseness as identified using the SCL-90-R and 3) demographics. Results: Victims of the wildfires had a statistically significant poorer quality of life in the three domains of physical health, psychological health, and environment compared to controls. After adjusting for other variables, the only difference between victims and controls was in the environment domain. Conclusions: Disasters have long lasting effects on victims. Psychological and physical health may improve after some time but environmental quality of life may need longer. However, it is not known yet if the environmental aspect of quality of life could affect other aspects such as psychological health or social relationships in the future.

AIM: To determine hip joint center(HJC) location on hip arthroplasty population comparing predictive and functional approaches with radiographic ***: The distance between the HJC and the mid-pelvis was calculated and compared between the three approaches. The localisation error between the predictive and functional approach was compared using the radiographic measurements as the reference. The operated leg was compared to the non-operated ***: A significant difference was found for the distance between the HJC and the mid-pelvis when comparing the predictive and functional method. The functional method leads to fewer errors. A statistical difference was found for the localization error between the predictive and functional method. The functional method is twice more ***: Although being more individualized, the functional method improves HJC localization and should be used in three-dimensional gait analysis.

This work highlights the evidential value of examining plastic drinking straws to establish linkages between multiple sources for forensic intelligence,investigative or prosecution *** drinking straws are commonly encountered in drug cases,either as inhalational paraphernalia or as packaging ***,to the best of our knowledge,systematic studies on the evidential value of straws have not previously been carried *** this study,over 80 packets of clear and colourless straws—most of which were visually similar—were purchased from various commercial outlets in *** physical characteristics(viz.,polarizing patterns,thickness,circumference and mass per unit length)and the manufactur-ing marks of these straws were examined to assess their potentials for discriminating straws from different *** of polarizing patterns yielded a discrimination of approximately 69%,while thickness,circumference,and mass per unit length measurements resulted in lower *** microscopy of manufacturing marks was found to be the most discriminating among all techniques employed herein,with a discrimination of about 95%,even among straws with similar polarizing patterns.

The partogram is an accurate labor monitoring tool for reducing maternal and perinatal mortality due to prolonged labor and dystocia. The aim of this study is to assess how the quality of the partogram has evolved in health care institutions (HCI in short) that have benefited from the primary health care support project (ASSP in short) after formative supervision. This is a descriptive study by periodic clinical audit between 2020 and 2022, carried out in 96 HCI in 3 provincial health divisions (DPS in short) of DR Congo. Each photographed partogram page was sent to the project’s central level for review by a team of experts (3 obstetric gynecologists and 3 midwives). The compliance rate for completing partograms in the 96 health facilities of the 3 DPS was 86.8%. The rate of traceability of labor continuity was 88.2%, and that of traceability of acts, incidents and treatments during labor was 87.1%. Finally, the compliance rate for filling out partograms in the immediate post-partum period was 81%. A clear improvement was noted between the January 2020 and March 2022 assessments.

Objective: While interest in elective robotic surgery is growing, use in emergency setting remainslimited due to challenges posed by sicker patients, advanced pathology and logistical issues. During theCOVID-19 pandemic, robotic surgery could provide the benefit of having the surgeon away from thebedside and reducing the number of directly exposed medical staff. The objective of this study was toreport patient outcomes and initial learning experience of emergency robotic colorectal surgery duringthe COVID-19 ***: A case series study was conducted, including patients undergoing emergency robotic colorectalsurgery between February 2020 and February 2021 at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, *** data were collected from an ethics approved prospective database. Patient demographics,operative time, conversions and postoperative complications were recorded. In addition, readmissions,length of stay and short-term oncological outcomes were ***: Ten patients with median age 64 y (range, 36-83 y) were included. Four patients had roboticcomplete mesocolic resection for obstructing cancers. Six had colorectal resections for benign disease inemergency setting. All were R0 with a mean lymph node harvest of 54 ± 13. Mean operative time was249 ± 117 min, the median length of stay was 9.4 d (range, 5-22 d). Only one patient was given atemporary diverting ileostomy. There were no grade III/V complications and no 30-day ***: Provided an experienced team and peri-operative planning, emergency robotic colorectalsurgery can achieve favorable outcomes with benefits of radical lymph node dissection in oncologicalcases and avoidance of diverting stoma.
