Biomineralization of Zinc-Phosphate-Based Nano Needles by Living Microalgae

Up to now, chemical synthesis routes only provide restricted opportunities for the formation of structured nano particles. In contrast, living microorganisms generate nano materials of well defined shapes by the precise control of biomineralization. Here we reveal new principles for the generation of functional nano materials through the process of biomineralization. We used the detoxification mechanism of the unicellular alga Scenedesmus obliquus to generate a techno logically interesting zinc-phosphate-based nano material. The algae were incubated in media with a sublethal zinc concentration (6.53 mg Zn dm-3) for 4 weeks. Using BF-and ADF-STEM imaging combined with analytical XEDS we could show that nano needles containing phosphorus and zinc were formed inside the living cells. Further more, the cells incubated with zinc show a strong fluorescence. Our findings indicate that the algae used polyphosphate bodies for detoxification of the zinc ions, leading to the generation of intracellular zinc-phosphate-based nano needles. Beside the technological application of this material, the fluorescent cells can be used for labeling of e.g. biological probes. This new experimental protocol for the production of an inorganic functional material can be applied also for other substances.

刺激速率为70～110Hz的听性稳态反应(auditory steady-state response,ASSR)(亦称为80Hz)最近倍受听力学工作者特别是小儿听力学工作者的关注,设备制造商也正在推销其产品。本文回顾了ASSR的技术、应用基础,并总结了其应用于婴幼儿听力评估的现状。文中斜体字为基本原则。详细的ASSR方法学、正常值以及一些ASSR研究结果请参阅Picton(2003)的综述。ASSR并不是一个新发现的听觉反应,1960年Geisler就从人类头颅上记录到了该反应;以后研究者又记录到了短声、正弦调制波以及方波调制波所诱发的反应。Galambos等在1981年发表的有关40Hz事件相关电位将ASSR引入听力领域。不同刺激速率的ASSR的产生部位是不同的,40Hz的ASSR产生于皮层和脑干,而80Hz的ASSR主要来源于脑干,而且很有可能它就是ABR的波Ⅴ,只是与ABR的刺激和记录方法不同而已。ASSR的重要特征之一就是在频域内分析的方法,通过计算位相相关性或刺激速率值处的信噪比,再根据统计学分析来判定反应的引出与否,这种客观性使ASSR显著优于ABR。ASSR的刺激信号最早是象ABR一样的短纯音信号,以后主要用调幅调制声,有时也加入10%～20%的调频调制,目前大多数设备都采用这一信号,最近一种新ASSR设备的缺省设置是5～8ms的短音。ASSR的另一个重要特征是能够同时记录多个刺激声信号所产生的反应,这种多频刺激的方法能够同时记录双耳八个频率(每耳四个频率)的反应。研究证明只要各个信号的频率相距一个倍频程以上,强度在75dBSPL以下,多个刺激声之间的干扰就很小或没有。不对称型的听力图、不同频率所产生的反应幅度的不同以及多频刺激方式所导致的各个频率反应幅度整体的下降延长了这种方法的测试时间,使其不如理想中的那么省时,但仍比单一刺激方式快2～3倍。80HzASSR通常采用的是正弦调幅调制纯音,因为其特有的频率特异性而被认为是优于短纯音ABR的一个方面,但是声信号的频率特异性只是其中的一方面,还应考虑到耳蜗基底膜的部位特异性以及神经反应的特异性。研究证明ASSR的频率特异性与短纯音ABR是非常接近的。ASSR技术以飞快的速度发展,十年前还没有商用的设备,五年前只有两家,而目前至少有六种不同的设备。随着设备的增加,各个设备之间标准化的问题突显出来。有些设备有很浑厚的研究背景,而有些则没有,使用者应该根据设备的性能及临床资料而加以选择。关于80HzASSR与行为听力测试相关性的研究很多,多为感音神经性聋成人或较大儿童,结果表明至少在该人群中ASSR的阈值能够很好地预测行为听力阈值。许多ABR与ASSR的比较研究声称ASSR比ABR能够更好地评估残余听力,也就是当受试者听力损失很重、ABR不能引出时,仍能够引出ASSR。尽管这一现象客观存在,但是还有一些其他需要考虑的影响因素,如:①所比较的信号在某一特定频率上的能量是不相等的,众所周知短声的能量分布频率范围很宽,其最大输出强度较ASSR信号小;②ASSR在高强度会有伪迹或非听性反应;③ASSR的长时强声刺激会导致耳蜗损害。因此需慎重对待这一问题。目前还没有关于传导性聋或混合性聋气导ASSR的研究,模拟传导性聋的研究表明气导ASSR阈值远高于行为听阈,而且ASSR骨气导差过大。骨导ASSR的研究显示听力正常婴幼儿各个频率的ASSR的阈值与成人显著不同。正常听力婴幼儿的短纯音ABR阈值以及诊断标准已经确立,而ASSR在这一方面的研究则显得不足,而且不同研究所采用的刺激(单频与多频)及记录(不同信噪比、噪声标准以及记录时间)方法不同,使这一形势更加恶化。综合不同调幅调制纯音ASSR的研究结果,正常听力婴幼儿在500、1000、2000及4000Hz的平均阈值分别为41、43、35和32dBHL,如果转换为dBSPL则与短纯音ABR非常相似。如果以均值的90%～95%为可信区间,取二倍标准差,则诊断标准在500Hz为60dBHL,1000、2000及4000Hz为50dBHL。关于感音神经性聋儿童ASSR的研究有很多,这种研究比较理想的方法应该将婴幼儿的ASSR阈值与行为听阈或短纯音ABR阈值相比较。遗憾的是多数研究都是短声ABR与ASSR的比较。总结以上工作发现,首先样本数量还很少,其次多数有方法学的缺陷,加之不同研究所采用的刺激和记录方法不同,临床资料就更加减少。最后还没有不同类型听力损失的婴幼儿ASSR的研究。总而言之,尽管ASSR在婴幼儿听力评估方面很有前途,但目前单独以此作为听力诊断的电生理方法还为时过早,还必须结合短纯音ABR,因为只有短纯音ABR才具有充足的基础、临床研究和明确的诊断标准,因而也是目前婴幼儿听力诊断电生理方法的金标准。根据上述回顾,ASSR在婴幼儿

Content of Heavy Metals in Mulberry Fruits and Their Extracts-Correlation Analysis

The aim of this research was the determination of heavy metals’ (iron, copper, zinc, manganese, cadmium, nickel and lead) contents of white, red and black mulberry fruit grown in southeast region of Serbia, and their extracts. The content of all metals was confirmed in the fruits. All of tree types of mulberry contained the highest content of iron in the fruit and the lowest content of Cd. The level of iron in all assayed fruits species was ranged between 23.06-57.38 mg?100g?1. The concentration range of cadmium for the tested fruits was found to be from 1.77 to 2.46 μg?100g?1 in fruit of Morus nigra L. and Morus alba L., respectively. The content of metals in the fruit of white mulberry decreases in the following order: Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu > Ni > Pb > Cd. The content of metals in the fruit of red mulberry by decreasing the value is: Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu > Ni > Pb > Cd and in the fruit of black mulberry decreases in the following order: Fe > Zn > Cu > Mn > Ni > Pb > Cd. In addition, an analysis of mulberries extracts showed a significant transfer of heavy metals during extraction procedure;therefore, the corresponding extraction coefficients reached values up to 73.09%. 在塞尔维亚的现代动物养殖业中，商业饲料是重要的组成部分，但却没有关于饲料中真菌污染的信息。因此，试验的研究目的是确定家禽饲料中真菌的污染率。试验共检测了230个家禽饲料样品，并记录了样品中真菌总数和可能产生毒素的真菌种类。其中38．26％的饲料样品真菌总数为1-9×10^4CFU／g。最常见的是镰刀菌属（56．09％）和曲霉属（56．56％），其次是根霉属（40％）、青霉属（50．87％）和毛霉菌属（30．04％），最少的是格链孢霉菌属（5．48％）。

本文评估了温室生产中水分胁迫对辣椒植株的生长、产量、初生代谢物(糖、有机酸和抗坏血酸)和次生代谢物(总酚含量、辣椒素和二氢辣椒素)积累等的影响。对一年生辣椒的变种‘Chili-AS Rot’和黄灯笼辣椒的变种娜迦·莫里希(‘Naga Morich’)进行了盆栽试验。以两种不同的处理方式对植物进行灌溉:最佳灌溉量或田间持水量灌溉和水分亏缺灌溉或50%田间持水量灌溉,可将其视为干旱胁迫。研究了干旱胁迫对辣椒产量和品质(主要和次要代谢产物)的影响。结果表明:50%田间持水量灌溉处理(水分亏缺状态)会影响单产,因为两种辣椒按照50%田间持水量进行灌溉处理时产量都较低。在水分亏缺的情况下,黄灯笼辣椒娜迦·莫里希(***‘Naga Morich’)的花蕾出现脱落现象,因而在第3次采摘时收获到的果实较少。在水分亏缺的情况下,两个辣椒品种的糖浓度均较低。在最佳灌溉量处理下,一年生辣椒‘Chili-AS Rot’果实中柠檬酸、草酸、延胡索酸、奎尼酸等有机酸含量较高。两种灌溉方式下苹果酸的浓度相差不大。黄灯笼辣椒娜迦·莫里希(***‘Naga Morich’)中柠檬酸和抗坏血酸在最佳灌溉量时浓度较高,而在水分亏缺状态时,其他有机酸浓度较高。一年生辣椒‘Chili-AS Rot’在适宜灌溉条件下,果实中具有较高的抗坏血酸和总酚含量,而在胁迫处理下,植株中的辣椒素和二氢辣椒素含量较高。而黄灯笼辣椒娜迦·莫里希(***‘Naga Morich’)在最佳灌溉量处理下辣椒素、二氢辣椒素和总酚含量均表现出较高的水平。

The near-infrared luminescence of Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O∶Mn^(5+)is demonstrated and *** excited into the broad and strong absorption band that spans the 500-1000 nm spectral range,this phosphor provides an ultranarrow(FWHM=5 nm)emission centered at 1140 nm that originates from a spin-forbidden ^(1)E → ^(3)A_(2) transition with a 37.5%internal quantum efficiency and an excited-state lifetime of about 350 μ*** derived the crystal field and Racah parameters and calculated the appropriate Tanabe-Sugano diagram for this *** found that 1E emission quenches due to the thermally-assisted cross-over with the ^(3)T_(2) state and that the relatively high Debye temperature of 783 K of Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O facilitates efficient *** Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O also provides efficient yellow emission of the Eu^(2+)dopant,we calculated and explained its electronic band structure,the partial and total density of states,effective Mulliken charges of all ions,elastic constants,Debye temperature,and vibrational ***,we demonstrated the application of phosphor in a luminescence intensity ratio thermometry and obtained a relative sensitivity of 1.92%K^(-1) and a temperature resolution of 0.2 K in the range of physiological temperatures.

Plasma chitinase 3-like 1 is persistently elevated during first month after minimally invasive colorectal cancer resection

AIM: To assess blood chitinase 3-like 1(CHi3L1) levels for 2 mo after minimally invasive colorectal resection(MICR) for colorectal cancer(CRC). METHODS: CRC patients in an Institutional Review Board approved data/plasma bank who underwent elective MICR for whom preoperative(PreO p), early postoperative(PostO p), and 1 or more late PostO p samples [postoperative day(POD) 7-27] available were included. Plasma CHi3L1 levels(ng/m L) were determined in duplicate by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: PreOp and PostOp plasma sample were available for 80 MICR cancer patients for the study. The median PreOp CHi3L1 level was 56.8 CI: 41.9-78.6 ng/mL(n = 80). Significantly elevated(P < 0.001) median plasma levels(ng/mL) over PreOp levels were detected on POD1(667.7 CI: 495.7, 771.7; n = 79), POD 3(132.6 CI: 95.5, 173.7; n = 76), POD7-13(96.4 CI: 67.7, 136.9; n = 62), POD14-20(101.4 CI: 80.7, 287.4; n = 22), and POD 21-27(98.1 CI: 66.8, 137.4; n = 20, P = 0.001). No significant difference in plasma levels were noted on POD27-41. CONCLUSION: Plasma CHi3L1 levels were significantly elevated for one month after MICR. Persistently elevated plasma CHi3L1 may support the growth of residual tumor and metastasis.

AIM: To investigate plasma Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 levels preoperatively in colorectal cancer(CRC) and benign patients and postoperatively after CRC ***: A plasma bank was screened for minimally invasive colorectal cancer resection(MICR) for CRC and benign disease(BEN) patients for whom preoperative, early postoperative, and 1 or more late postoperative samples(postoperative day 7-27) were available. Monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1) levels(pg/mL) were determined via enzyme linked immuno-absorbent assay. RESULTS: One hundred and two CRC and 86 BEN patients were studied. The CRC patient's median preoperative MCP-1 level(283.1, CI: 256.0, 294.3) was higher than the BEN group level(227.5, CI: 200.2, 245.2; P = 0.0004). Vs CRC preoperative levels, elevated MCP-1 plasma levels were found on postoperative day 1(446.3, CI: 418.0, 520.1), postoperative day 3(342.7, CI: 320.4, 377.4), postoperative day 7-13(326.5, CI: 299.4, 354.1), postoperative day 14-20(361.6, CI: 287.8, 407.9), and postoperative day 21-27(318.1, CI: 287.2, 371.6; P < 0.001 for all). CONCLUSION: Preoperative MCP-1 levels were higher in CRC patients(vs BEN). After MICR for CRC, MCP-1 levels were elevated for 1 mo and may promote angiogenesis, cancer recurrence and metastasis.
