Background:We previously observed decreasing resection rates of nonmetastatic gastric adenocarcinoma(GaC)in the US and some European *** and to what extent these trends affect the trends in overall survival(OS)of patients with non-metastatic GaC at the population level remain *** large international population-based cohort study aimed to assess the impact of the previously observed decreasing resection rates on multivariable-adjusted trends in the long-term OS of patients with non-metastatic ***:Individual-level data of patients with non-metastatic GaC were obtained from the national cancer registries of the Netherlands,Belgium,Sweden,Norway,and Slovenia,and the US Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results *** analyzed data for each country *** between year of diagnosis and OS were assessed using Cox proportional hazards regression model with adjustment for multiple prognostic variables,with and without including resection and chemotherapy as potential explanatory ***:A total of 66,398 non-metastatic GaC patients diagnosed in 2003-2016 were analyzed,with an accumulated follow-up of 172,357 *** adjustment for resection,OS was improved only slightly in the US[hazard ratio(HR)_(per year)=0.99;HR_(≥vs.<2010)=0.96],and no improvement was observed in the investigated European countries,with OS even worsening in Sweden(HR_(per year)=1.03;HR_(≥vs.<2010)=1.17).After adjusting for resection,the increasing OS trend became stronger in the US(HR_(per year)=0.98;HR_(≥vs.<2010)=0.88),and the temporal trend became insignificant in *** Slovenia(HR_(per year)=0.99;HR_(≥vs.<2010)=0.92)and Norway(HR_(per year)=0.97;HR_(≥vs.<2010)=0.86),improved OS over time emerged after resection *** OS in patients undergoing resection was observed in the US,the Netherlands,and *** for chemotherapy did not alter the observed *** analyses by tumor location showedm

Impact of Microstructural and Surface Modifications on the Ti-45Nb Alloy’s Response to Bio-Environment

The Ti-45Nb (mass%) alloy’s corrosive and biocompatible response in simulated physiological conditions was investigated before and after its additional high-pressure torsion (HPT) and laser irradiation processing. The grain size reduction from 2.76 µm to ~ 200 nm and the appearance of laser-induced morphologically altered and highly oxidized surface led to the significant improvement of alloy corrosion resistance and cell–implant interaction. Moreover, an additional increase of the laser pulse energy from 5 to 15 mJ during the alloy irradiation in the air led to an increase in the surface oxygen content from 13.64 to 23.89% accompanied by an increase of excellent cell viability from 127.18 to 134.42%. As a result of the controlled alloy microstructural and surface modifications, the formation of protective bi-modal mixed Ti- and Nb-oxide external scale was enabled. The presence of this surface oxide scale enhanced the alloy’s resistance to corrosion deterioration and simultaneously boosted cell viability and proliferation.

The breeding period is a demanding and time-constrained phase for migratory bird *** outcome and duration can interact with the extent and duration of post-breeding movements,resulting in individual differences in space use ultimately influencing later stages of the annual *** present space-use and home range estimates during the breeding season for 21 European rollers Coracias garrulus tracked between 2018 and 2022,in Italy and *** high-resolution spatial GPS data coupled with regular nest-box monitoring,we analyzed dif-ferences in space use during the incubation/nestling period versus post-breeding period prior to migration,accounting for the breeding outcome(successful ***).We found that adult movements were strongly reduced during the first phase,whereas increased in the post-breeding phase,especially for failed *** breeders remained in the surroundings of the nest site,whereas unsuccessful ones tended to abandon the nest and visit distant areas(up to 500 km)for long periods(60.5±6.2 days).Breeding outcome did not influence the departure date of autumn migration,suggesting that failed breeders used this period for exploratory movements but not for advancing the onset of *** exploratory movements may be functional to prospect and inform settlement decisions in failed breeders in search of new breeding opportunities and may be particularly important in migratory species,which generally have a limited period to gather information prior to autumn *** study demonstrates the need to investigate seasonal movements in different populations and the potential importance of pros-pectingpost-breeding movements for long-distance migratory species.

On Some Topological Properties of Normed Boolean Algebras

This paper concerns the compactness and separability properties of the normed Boolean algebras (N.B.A.) with respect to topology generated by a distance equal to the square root of a measure of symmetric difference between two elements. The motivation arises from studying random elements talking values in N.B.A. Those topological properties are important assumptions that enable us to avoid possible difficulties when generalising concepts of random variable convergence, the definition of conditional law and others. For each N.B.A., there exists a finite measure space ( E,ℰ,μ ) such that the N.B.A. is isomorphic to ( ℰ ˜ , μ ˜ ) resulting from the factorisation of initial σ-algebra by the ideal of negligible sets. We focus on topological properties ( ℰ ˜ , μ ˜ ) in general setting when μ can be an infinite measure. In case when μ is infinite, we also consider properties of ℰ ˜ fin ⊆ ℰ ˜ consisting of classes of measurable sets having finite measure. The compactness and separability of the N.B.A. are characterised using the newly defined terms of approximability and uniform approximability of the corresponding measure space. Finally, conditions on ( E,ℰ,μ ) are derived for separability and compactness of ℰ ˜ and ℰ ˜ fin .

Acute pancreatitis as a complication of acute COVID-19 in kidney transplant recipients

Functional Dependence of IM and HV Angle in Hallux Valgus Deformity before and after Operative

Hallux valgus is a relatively common and multifaceted complex deformity of the front part of the foot. It is the result of multiple effects of innate (endogenous) and exogenous etiological factors with different degrees of influence. The degree of hallux valgus deformity is usually assessed by radiological values of hallux valgus (HV) and intermetatarsal (IM) angles. The aim of the paper is to justify the definition of hallux valgus deformity as a function of one angle, (HVA or IMA), and then to determine the functional connection and the most suitable function equalizing the values of the angles IMA and HVA. As hallux valgus is a double angulation deformity, the analytically determined connection between the HVA and IMA angles reduces the study of the deformity to the study of function with one argument, and makes the analysis of deformity changes before and after operative treatment simpler. For the determined connections between the angles, the values of linear proportionality coefficients and regression coefficients of corresponding linear functions of analytical equalization of the value of the IM angle and the degree of deformity for a given value of the HV angle were experimentally determined. The obtained results were checked on a sample of 396 operatively treated hallux valgus deformities. The presented analytical approach and the obtained functional links of IMA and HVA enable quantitative observation of the change in the degree of deformity based on the radiologically determined value of these angles, and the established nonlinear function will be useful for evaluating the expected value of the IM angle and the degree of deformity based only on the measured value of the HV angle. .
