Breeding phase and outcome determine space use in European rollers Coracias garrulus prior to migration

The breeding period is a demanding and time-constrained phase for migratory bird *** outcome and duration can interact with the extent and duration of post-breeding movements,resulting in individual differences in space use ultimately influencing later stages of the annual *** present space-use and home range estimates during the breeding season for 21 European rollers Coracias garrulus tracked between 2018 and 2022,in Italy and *** high-resolution spatial GPS data coupled with regular nest-box monitoring,we analyzed dif-ferences in space use during the incubation/nestling period versus post-breeding period prior to migration,accounting for the breeding outcome(successful ***).We found that adult movements were strongly reduced during the first phase,whereas increased in the post-breeding phase,especially for failed *** breeders remained in the surroundings of the nest site,whereas unsuccessful ones tended to abandon the nest and visit distant areas(up to 500 km)for long periods(60.5±6.2 days).Breeding outcome did not influence the departure date of autumn migration,suggesting that failed breeders used this period for exploratory movements but not for advancing the onset of *** exploratory movements may be functional to prospect and inform settlement decisions in failed breeders in search of new breeding opportunities and may be particularly important in migratory species,which generally have a limited period to gather information prior to autumn *** study demonstrates the need to investigate seasonal movements in different populations and the potential importance of pros-pectingpost-breeding movements for long-distance migratory species.

This paper concerns the compactness and separability properties of the normed Boolean algebras (N.B.A.) with respect to topology generated by a distance equal to the square root of a measure of symmetric difference between two elements. The motivation arises from studying random elements talking values in N.B.A. Those topological properties are important assumptions that enable us to avoid possible difficulties when generalising concepts of random variable convergence, the definition of conditional law and others. For each N.B.A., there exists a finite measure space ( E,ℰ,μ ) such that the N.B.A. is isomorphic to ( ℰ ˜ , μ ˜ ) resulting from the factorisation of initial σ-algebra by the ideal of negligible sets. We focus on topological properties ( ℰ ˜ , μ ˜ ) in general setting when μ can be an infinite measure. In case when μ is infinite, we also consider properties of ℰ ˜ fin ⊆ ℰ ˜ consisting of classes of measurable sets having finite measure. The compactness and separability of the N.B.A. are characterised using the newly defined terms of approximability and uniform approximability of the corresponding measure space. Finally, conditions on ( E,ℰ,μ ) are derived for separability and compactness of ℰ ˜ and ℰ ˜ fin .

Hallux valgus is a relatively common and multifaceted complex deformity of the front part of the foot. It is the result of multiple effects of innate (endogenous) and exogenous etiological factors with different degrees of influence. The degree of hallux valgus deformity is usually assessed by radiological values of hallux valgus (HV) and intermetatarsal (IM) angles. The aim of the paper is to justify the definition of hallux valgus deformity as a function of one angle, (HVA or IMA), and then to determine the functional connection and the most suitable function equalizing the values of the angles IMA and HVA. As hallux valgus is a double angulation deformity, the analytically determined connection between the HVA and IMA angles reduces the study of the deformity to the study of function with one argument, and makes the analysis of deformity changes before and after operative treatment simpler. For the determined connections between the angles, the values of linear proportionality coefficients and regression coefficients of corresponding linear functions of analytical equalization of the value of the IM angle and the degree of deformity for a given value of the HV angle were experimentally determined. The obtained results were checked on a sample of 396 operatively treated hallux valgus deformities. The presented analytical approach and the obtained functional links of IMA and HVA enable quantitative observation of the change in the degree of deformity based on the radiologically determined value of these angles, and the established nonlinear function will be useful for evaluating the expected value of the IM angle and the degree of deformity based only on the measured value of the HV angle. .

以氯化胆碱和乙二醇混合液为低共熔溶剂,不使用其他添加剂,电化学沉积无枝晶Zn/Au合金。在不同的Zn(Ⅱ)浓度下,采用恒电位电沉积法在相对较低的Zn电沉积过电位下进行电沉积。通过循环伏安法(CV)和计时安培法(CA)揭示Zn电沉积的电化学机理。采用扫描电子显微镜和X射线衍射分析(XRD)对沉积层的形貌和结构进行表征,并用能谱仪对沉积层进行元素分析。CV结果表明,Zn的电沉积始于Zn欠电位沉积区,并一直持续到Zn过电位沉积(OPD)区。随着Zn(Ⅱ)浓度的增加,Zn/Zn(Ⅱ)电偶的沉积电位向更高的正值偏移。CA分析表明,在Zn的OPD区开始三维渐进形核,随后形成三维生长。形貌分析表明,电沉积始于致密Zn岛的形成,随后形成无枝晶Zn/Au合金。XRD分析表明,其物相为金属Zn、立方AuZn3和Au Zn金属间化合物。

Blue Cap Is Effective and Safe for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Children

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common inflammatory skin disease in children. Treatment of AD is based on skin barrier repair and reduction of inflammation. We analyzed the efficacy and safety of activated piroctone olamine (APO)—Blue Cap—in children with AD. Materials and Methods: An open-label interventional clinical study was carried out at three clinical centers in Serbia. A total of 58 patients with AD, aged between 3 and 18 years were included and treated with Blue Cap Foam (100 ml;CATALYSIS S.L. Madrid)—Activated Piroctone Olamine—applied twice a day in the affected areas with eczema for 30 days and final assessment at 45 days from baseline. Photographic documentation, clinical evaluation, therapy effectiveness and safety questionnaires were assessed at baseline, 15, 30 and 45 days. Results: Our results demonstrated a significant reduction in signs (erythema, scaling, infiltration, excoriations, xerosis) and symptoms (pruritus) at weeks 2 and 4 of the study. At the end of the study, most patients had moderate (28.6%) to great (62.5%) disappearance of manifestations and moderate (25%) to great (71.4%) skin quality improvement. The effect and tolerability of the therapy were evaluated as very good in 66.1 % and 67.9% and good in about 14.3% and 17.9%, assessed by the investigator and patient, respectively. Three patients experienced a burning sensation at the beginning of the study, the side-effects were resolved as the patients continued applying the foam. After two weeks of cessation of the investigated foam, a significant percentage of patients experienced worsening in the final assessment done by the investigator as well as the participant. In the final assessment, a significantly high percentage (57.1%) of patients had a total reduction of manifestation, and a significant number of participants considered the applied product as treatment success, assessed by the investigator (62.5%) as well as the participants (66.4%).
