mercury in an ultraoligotrophic North Patagonian Andean lake (Argentina): Concentration patterns in different components of the water column

The deep, ultraoligotrophic piedmont lakes of Northern Patagonia （Argentina） are located in pristine and barely impacted areas, along a wide latitudinal range. Several studies have reported moderate to high total mercury （Hg） concentrations and contrasting methylmercury （CH3Hg＋） production in different lake compartments. Sources of Hg for western Patagonian terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems are still not clear; while point sources can be ruled out and atmospheric deposition is a plausible source, along with contribution from active volcanic areas of the Andes. In this investigation, we reported a noticeably seasonal, spatial （between lake branches）, and vertical （between water column strata） heterogeneity in the total Hg concentrations found in the pelagic zone of Lake moreno. Sterile water samples taken in a depth profile of the lake showed moderate to high concentrations of CH3Hg＋ in autumn with a decreasing trend with depth. Our results indicated that Hg is largely allocated in the plankton fraction between 10–53 μm; which dominated within the euphotic （epilimnetic） zone of the lake due to the high densities attained by two species of the dinoflagellate Gymnodinium. The 53–200 μm planktonic size fraction （comprising rotifers, ciliates and immature stages of crustaceans） and the 200 μm fraction （calanoid copepods and cladocerans） were found to bear strikingly lower total Hg concentrations, suggesting that the magnification of Hg at the planktonic consumer level is negligible.

Copper,zinc,and iron bioleaching from polymetallic sulphide concentrate

Bioleaching of low-grade complex Cu–Zn–Pb–Fe–Ag–Au sulphide concentrate (of majdanpek ore body, RTB Bor, Serbia) was carried out in an aerated bioleach reactor in the presence of mesophilic mixed bacterial culture of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans. A mesophilic acidophiles culture was isolated from the acidic solution of the underground copper mine of Bor, Serbia. The nutrient medium was 9K at pH 1.6. 87% of the particles were micro;m in size, with a pulp density of 8% (w/v). Bioleaching efficiencies of 89% for zinc, 83% for copper, and 68% for iron can be achieved in the examined conditions. Kinetic analysis shows that the change in leaching corresponds to the Spencer-Topley kinetic model for diffusion-controlled topochemical reactions.

Labour Productivity and the Chaotic Economic Growth model： G7

Chaos theory is used to prove that erratic and chaotic fluctuations can indeed arise in completely deterministic models. Chaos theory reveals structure in aperiodic, dynamic systems. The number of nonlinear business cycle models use chaos theory to explain complex motion of the economy. Almost three years after the crisis, the G7 countries continue to be challenged with economic volatility. The global economy has slowed. Growth in the United States has weakened. In Europe, economic instability is generated by the financial and economic imbalances. Europe is gripped with financial strains from the sovereign debt crisis in the euro area periphery. How these G7 economies confront their fiscal challenges will profoundly affect their economic stability. The basic aim of this paper is to provide a relatively simple chaotic economic growth model that is capable of generating stable equilibria, cycles, or chaos. This paper looks in more detail at the GDP growth stability issues in each of the G7 countries in the period 1990-2012 （Retrieved from http：//www, ***）. A key hypothesis of this work is based on the idea that the coefficient π =[p（s_p-i-n/pb-p_mb_m）] plays a crucial role in explaining local stability of the gross domestic product growth, where, p---the coefficient of labour productivity; p.,--the coefficient of the marginal labour productivity, sp-private saving rate;i--investment rate; b-percent of the gross domestic product which belongs to budget deficit; bm-marginal budget deficit coefficient; n-net capital outflow rate.

The Chaotic monopoly Price Growth model

Deterministic chaos refers to an irregular or chaotic motion that is generated by nonlinear systems. The chaotic behavior is not to quantum-mechanical-like uncertainty. Chaos theory is used to prove that erratic and chaotic fluctuations can indeed arise in completely deterministic models. Chaotic systems exhibit a sensitive dependence on initial conditions. Seemingly insignificant changes in the initial conditions produce large differences in outcomes. To maximize profit, the monopolist must first determine its costs and the characteristics of market demand. Given this knowledge, the monopoly firm must then decide how much to produce. The monopoly firm can determine price, and the quantity it will sell at that price follows from the market demand curve. The basic aim of this paper is to construct a relatively simple chaotic growth model of the monopoly price that is capable of generating stable equilibria, cycles, or chaos. A key hypothesis of this work is based on the idea that the coefficient,π=[m（a-1）（e-1）^-eb]plays a crucial role in explaining local stability of the monopoly price, where,b^the coefficient of the marginal cost function of the monopoly firm, m--the coefficient of the inverse demand function, e--the coefficient of the price elasticity of the monopoly demand, a--the coefficient.

Silver dendritic nanonstructures obtained by the potentiostatic electrolysis from different electrolytes at different overpotentials were characterized by the scanning electron microscopy(SEm)technique and X-ray diffraction analysis of the produced *** needle-like and fern-like dendrites were formed from the nitrate electrolyte at overpotentials inside and outside plateaus of the limiting diffusion current density,*** three-dimensional pine-like dendrites constructed from approximately spherical grains were formed from the ammonium electrolyte at overpotentials both inside and outside plateaus of the limiting diffusion current *** morphology of silver dendrites was correlated with their crystal structure at the semi quantiative *** change of crystal orientation from the strong(111)preferred orientation for the needle-like dendrites to almost randomly orientied spherical grains in the pine-like dendrites obtained at the overpotential outside the plateau of the limiting diffusion current density was *** trend in change of crystal orientation and morphology of Ag nanostructures was accompanied by considerable increase of the specific surface area(SSA)of the produced *** average crystallite sizes were in the range of 38-50 nm,proving nanostructural character of the formed Ag particles.

The electrodeposition of aluminium on glassy carbon and aluminium substrates from AlCl3-urea deep eutectic solvent(DES) system at near room temperatures was investigated,without additional purification of the chemicals used to prepare the electrolyte and without rigorous control of moisture and oxygen present in the working *** effects of changing temperature,working potential,controlled deposition current density and deposition time on the morphology of deposited aluminium without stirring of the electrolyte were *** potentiostatic and galvanostatic techniques,aluminium was electrodeposited from the deep eutectic solvent(n(AlCl3):n(urea)=1.6:1) onto glassy carbon and aluminium substrates at temperatures ranging from 25 to 50℃.Using SEm,EDS and XRD techniques,substrates were studied and confirmed the presence of aluminium deposits following both potentiostatic and galvanostatic *** shape and size of Al grains deposited depended on the time of deposition and varied in size from nanometers to micrometers and in shape from regular crystal forms to needle-like and flake-like structures.

Stability of m13 Phage in Organic Solvents

The effect of different types of organic solvents on the structural integrity of m13 phages has been directly visualized by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The exposure of m13 phages to apolar hexane had no effect on the structure of the phages for up to 8 h. In contrast, phages showed ~10-fold contraction into rod-like I-forms and to flattened spheroids with ~12 nm diameter upon exposure to polar organic solvents. We show that this finding can be beneficial for the macromolecular self-assembly and in broader aspects, to enhance the spatial arrangement of desired inorganic nanoparticles in the rapidly developing field of virotronics.

The ability to control high-voltage actuator arrays relies, to date, on expensive microelectronic processes or on individual wiring of each actuator to a single off-chip high-voltage switch. Here we present an alternative approach that uses on-chip photoconductive switches together with a light projection system to individually address high-voltage actuators. Each actuator is connected to one or more switches that are nominally OFF unless turned ON using direct light illumination. We selected hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) as our photoconductive material, and we provide a complete characterization of its light to dark conductance, breakdown field, and spectral response. The resulting switches are very robust, and we provide full details of their fabrication processes. We demonstrate that the switches can be integrated into different architectures to support both AC and DC-driven actuators and provide engineering guidelines for their functional design. To demonstrate the versatility of our approach, we demonstrate the use of the photoconductive switches in two distinctly different applications—control of µm-sized gate electrodes for patterning flow fields in a microfluidic chamber and control of cm-sized electrostatic actuators for creating mechanical deformations for haptic displays.

The near-infrared luminescence of Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O∶mn^(5+)is demonstrated and *** excited into the broad and strong absorption band that spans the 500-1000 nm spectral range,this phosphor provides an ultranarrow(FWHm=5 nm)emission centered at 1140 nm that originates from a spin-forbidden ^(1)E → ^(3)A_(2) transition with a 37.5%internal quantum efficiency and an excited-state lifetime of about 350 μ*** derived the crystal field and Racah parameters and calculated the appropriate Tanabe-Sugano diagram for this *** found that 1E emission quenches due to the thermally-assisted cross-over with the ^(3)T_(2) state and that the relatively high Debye temperature of 783 K of Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O facilitates efficient *** Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O also provides efficient yellow emission of the Eu^(2+)dopant,we calculated and explained its electronic band structure,the partial and total density of states,effective mulliken charges of all ions,elastic constants,Debye temperature,and vibrational ***,we demonstrated the application of phosphor in a luminescence intensity ratio thermometry and obtained a relative sensitivity of 1.92%K^(-1) and a temperature resolution of 0.2 K in the range of physiological temperatures.
