Gastric cystica profunda(GCP)is an uncommon but underestimated gastric lesion.Its precancerous potential determines its significance.In addition to previous mucosa injury due to operations,biopsy or polypectomy,chronic active and atrophic gastritis may also lead to the development of GCPs.By carefully examining the stomach and taking biopsy samples from the susceptible regions,the stage of atrophy can be determined.Chronic atrophic gastritis is a risk factor for cancer evolvement and it can also contribute to GCPs formation.GCPs frequently occur close to early gastric cancers(EGCs)or EGC can arise from the cystic glands.Endoscopic resection is an effective and minimally invasive treat-ment in GCP.

Microglial cells are the only resident immune cells in the central nervous system and constitute its frontline guardian.They are extremely reactive against infections,trauma,or toxins,but are also responsible for mediating inflammation,taking part in the pathogenic course of many neuropathologies(Sierra et al.,2019).Cell-specific staining,ultrastructural analysis by transmission electron microscopy(TEM),or two-photonmicroscopy imaging have been relevant for the characterization of microglia as well as their cell-cell interactions。

This comprehensive review explores the intricate relationship between nutrition,the gut microbiome,steroid hormones,and Parkinson's disease within the context of the gut-brain axis.The gut-brain axis plays a pivotal role in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease,encompassing diverse components such as the gut microbiota,immune system,metabolism,and neural pathways.The gut microbiome,profoundly influenced by dietary factors,emerges as a key player.Nutrition during the first 1000 days of life shapes the gut microbiota composition,influencing immune responses and impacting both child development and adult health.High-fat,high-sugar diets can disrupt this delicate balance,contributing to inflammation and immune dysfunction.Exploring nutritional strategies,the Mediterranean diet's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties show promise in reducing Parkinson's disease risk.Microbiome-targeted dietary approaches and the ketogenic diet hold the potential in improving brain disorders.Beyond nutrition,emerging research uncovers potential interactions between steroid hormones,nutrition,and Parkinson's disease.Progesterone,with its anti-inflammatory properties and presence in the nervous system,offers a novel option for Parkinson's disease therapy.Its ability to enhance neuroprotection within the enteric nervous system presents exciting prospects.The review addresses the hypothesis thatα-synuclein aggregates originate from the gut and may enter the brain via the vagus nerve.Gastrointestinal symptoms preceding motor symptoms support this hypothesis.Dysfunctional gut-brain signaling during gut dysbiosis contributes to inflammation and neurotransmitter imbalances,emphasizing the potential of microbiota-based interventions.In summary,this review uncovers the complex web of interactions between nutrition,the gut microbiome,steroid hormones,and Parkinson's disease within the gut-brain axis framework.Understanding these connections not only offers novel therapeutic insights but also illuminates the origins of neurode

Understanding the influence of electrode material’s morphology on electrochemical behavior is of great significance for the development of rechargeable batteries,however,such studies are often limited by the inability to precisely control the morphology of electrode materials.Herein,nanostructured titanium niobium oxides(TiNb_(2)O_(7))with three different morphologies(one-dimensional(1D),two-dimensional(2D),and three-dimensional(3D))were synthesized via a facile microwave-assisted solvothermal method.The influence of the morphological dimension of TiNb_(2)O_(7) as electrode material on the electrochemical performance in Li-ion batteries(LIBs)and the underlying correlation with the electrochemical kinetics were studied in detail.2D TiNb_(2)O_(7)(TNO-2D)shows a superior rate capability and cycling stability,associated with improved kinetics for charge transfer and Li-ion diffusion,compared to the 1D and 3D materials.Operando X-ray diffraction measurements reveal the structural stability and crystallographic evolution of TNO-2D upon lithiation and delithiation and correlate the Li-ion diffusion kinetics with the lattice evolution during battery charge and discharge.Moreover,carbon-coated TNO-2D achieves enhanced rate capability(205 mAh·g^(-1) at 50 C)and long-term cycling stability(87%after 1000 cycles at 5 C).This work provides insights into the rational morphology design of electrode materials for accelerated charge transfer and enhanced fast-charging capability,pushing forward the development of electrode materials for high-power rechargeable batteries in future energy storage.

We introduce a programmable eight-port interferometer with the recently proposed error-tolerant architecture capable of performing a broad class of transformations.The interferometer has been fabricated with femtosecond laser writing,and it is the largest programmable interferometer of this kind to date.We have demonstrated its advantageous error tolerance by showing an operation in a broad wavelength range from 920 to 980 nm,which is particularly relevant for quantum photonics due to efficient photon sources existing in this wavelength range.Our work highlights the importance of developing novel architectures of programmable photonics for information processing.

BACKGROUND Population’s mental health surveillance is essential for knowing the distribution of mental well-being and mental disorders in the society.This allows for the establishment,evaluation,and revision of preventive measures and curative services.The results of such monitoring should serve as a database for evidencebased mental health policy.Mental disorders are among the top ten causes of burden globally and crisis situations such as the pandemic increase the risk of mental health problems,as they cause constant fear of contagion and the implementation of restrictive measures.The impact of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic on the general population of the Slovak Republic has not yet been studied.The hypothesis was that more than one fifth of the population(women to a greater extent)will have symptoms of anxiety and depression.AIM To assess the mental health of the general Slovak population aged 15 years and older in the summer of 2021 by determining the prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms.METHODS An anonymous cross-sectional survey was implemented in a sample of 1501 respondents in the summer of 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.The inclusion criteria were age of 15 years and older and ability to complete the survey questionnaire online or in a face-to-face interview.The survey assessed anxiety symptoms by the seven-item general anxiety disorder and depressive symptoms by the nine-item patient health questionnaire instruments.Recognized cut-off scores of 10 or greater were used for both.RESULTS Anxiety symptoms were present in 19.32%and depression in 24.65%of the sample.Symptoms of both disorders were more common in females:15.00%of males and 24.00%of females experienced anxiety symptoms,and 19.00%of males and 30.00%of females experienced symptoms of depression.Symptoms of both disorders were the most common in the youngest age group(15-25 years old):One fifth of males(20.29%)and one third of females(35.32%)had symptoms of anxiety,and 26.09%males and 43.79%females had symptoms of dep

The importance of olfaction for newborns,especially for mother-associated odors is well known.Olfactory receptor neurons were found in preterm infants as early as 24–27 weeks of gestation[1].Therefore,it can be assumed that the olfactory sense is functioning in preterm infants[2],but only very little is known about olfactory processing at this age.Most studies dealing with the processing of olfactory stimuli have been conducted on mature infants.However,in 2001 a research group demonstrated,using near-infrared spectroscopy,that a change in blood oxygenation of premature infants could be detected in the orbitofrontal cortex after olfactory stimulation with disinfectant and detergent[3].Electroencephalogram(EEG)techniques have broadly been used to measure central odor processing in adults and children[4,5,6].

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is a leading cause of human mortality worldwide.As conventional anticancer therapy not always being effective,there is growing interest in innovative“drug-free”cancer treatments or interventions that improve the efficacy of established therapy.CRC is associated with microbiome alterations,a process known as dysbiosis that involves depletion and/or enrichment of particular gut bacterial species and their metabolic functions.Supplementing patient treatment with traditional probiotics(with or without prebiotics),nextgeneration probiotics(NGP),or postbiotics represents a potentially effective and accessible complementary anticancer strategy by restoring gut microbiota composition and/or by signaling to the host.In this capacity,restoration of the gut microbiota in cancer patients can stabilize and enhance intestinal barrier function,as well as promote anticarcinogenic,anti-inflammatory,antimutagenic or other biologically important biochemical pathways that show high specificity towards tumor cells.Potential benefits of traditional probiotics,NGP,and postbiotics include modulating gut microbiota composition and function,as well as the host inflammatory response.Their application in CRC prevention is highlighted in this review,where we consider supportive in vitro,animal,and clinical studies.Based on emerging research,NGP and postbiotics hold promise in establishing innovative treatments for CRC by conferring physiological functions via the production of dominant natural products and metabolites that provide new host-microbiota signals to combat CRC.Although favorable results have been reported,further investigations focusing on strain and dose specificity are required to ensure the efficacy and safety of traditional probiotics,NGP,and postbiotics in CRC prevention and treatment.
