AIM:To explore the physiopathology and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)findings in an animal model of acute arterial mesenteric ischemia(AAMI)with and without ***:In this study,8 adult Sprague-Dawley rats underwent superior mesenteric artery(SMA)ligation and were then randomly divided in two groups of *** groupⅠ,the ischemia was maintained for 8 *** groupⅡ,1-h after SMA occlusion,the ligation was removed by cutting the thread fixed on the back of the animal,and reperfusion was monitored for 8 *** was performed using a 7-T ***:We found that,in the case of AAMI without reperfusion,spastic reflex ileus,hypotonic reflex ileus,free abdominal fluid and bowel wall thinning are present from the second hour,and bowel wall hyperintensity in T2-W sequences are present from the fourth *** reperfusion model shows the presence of early bowel wall hyperintensity in T2-W sequences after 1 h and bowel wall thickening from the second ***:Our study has shown that MRI can assess pathological changes that occur in the small bowel and distinguish between the presence and absence of reperfusion after induced acute arterial ischemia.

Objective To investigate the role and molecular mechanism of exosomal miR-224-5p in colorectal cancer(CRC).Methods The miR-224-5p expression in CRC patient tissues and cell-derived exosomes was measured by laser capture microdissection and qRT-PCR,***-luciferase reporter gene assay was used to determine the target gene of *** protein expressions of p53 and unc-51 like kinase 2(ULK2)in CRC cells were detected by western *** cytometry was used to detect cell cycle and *** proliferation was measured by CCK8 and EdU *** The miR-224-5p expression was upregulated in CRC tissues and increased progressively with the rise of CRC *** cells secreted extracellular miR-224-5p mainly in an exosome-dependent manner,and then miR-224-5p could be transferred to surrounding tumor cells to regulate cell proliferation in the form of autocrine or ***,ULK2 was characterized as a direct target of miR-224-5p and was downregulated in CRC ***,ULK2 inhibited CRC cell proliferation in a p53-dependent ***,exosome-derived miR-224-5p partially reversed the proliferation regulation of ULK2 on CRC *** Our findings demonstrate that exosome-transmitted miR-224-5p promotes p53-dependent cell proliferation by targeting ULK2 in CRC,which may offer promising targets for CRC prevention and therapy.

Literature Review of the Prevalence of Hypertension at Gulu University, Gulu City, Acholi Subregion, Northern Uganda

Hypertension is a big problem worldwide. The purpose of this study is to examine the prevalence, knowledge, attitude, and practice about hypertension at Gulu University, Gulu city, Gulu district, Acholi subregion, Northern Uganda. A literature search on hypertension was done. It showed that, in Uganda, a representative number of 17,777 adult patients’ data were analyzed from January 2014 to February 2024. The epidemiological data on awareness of hypertension was found to be at 8%. Of this, 18.3% of the people with hypertension had it under control. The results of the findings were promising. Hypertension is an important public health challenge in Uganda particularly in Northern Uganda where Gulu University falls. In comparison with the two regions of Central Uganda and Northern Uganda, there was a significant number of populations that were not aware of their condition. Those diagnosed were on treatment but the treatment was not adhered to due to stock outs of medicines. Therefore, Measures are required to prevent hypertension, improve awareness, treatment and control within the community, especially at Gulu University where research has never been done.

Bloom-forming cyanobacteria and dinoflagellates in five Argentinian reservoirs:Multi-year sampling

Harmful algal blooms are important threats to reservoir *** a 15-year period,we sampled five Argentinian reservoirs to identify the responsible species for harmful algal blooms and determine the water quality factors driving their *** reservoirs exhibit diverse morphological and hydrological characteristics and are distributed across varying climatic *** blooms included an array of species,including toxin producers such as Raphidiopsis raciborskii,Aphanizomenon gracile,and Microcystis *** contrast,dinoflagellate blooms were predominantly characterized by *** cyanobacterial blooms primarily occurred in the shallower reservoirs located in warmer regions,whereas dinoflagellate blooms occurred where temperatures were *** most intense blooms occurred during the summer,and although cyanobacterial and chlorophyte blooms co-occurred,they never coexisted with dinoflagellate *** identified cyanotoxins in the reservoirs over the past three years,a phenomenon previously unreported in the *** that these reservoirs are drinking water sources for human populations,ongoing and systematic monitoring is needed to protect public *** the proliferation of algae and cyanobacteria in reservoirs requires resource management at the watershed level,and in the case of the Itiyuro and El Limon,requires binational management with Bolivia.

Farmers’ Knowledge and Awareness towards the Use of Agrochemicals in Vegetable Cultivation, Fako Cameroon

Agrochemicals are contemporary, omnipresent tool used in vegetable cultivation. Farmers’ knowledge and awareness of the proper usage of agrochemicals are critical for mitigating the negative effects on human health. This cross-sectional study was aimed at assessing the usage knowledge, risk awareness of toxicological and chemical classes, proper handling and use practices for agrochemicals homologated for use in vegetable farming, and the occurrence of health-related symptoms as a result of exposure among these farmers. The study included 93 vegetable growers from agricultural hotspot towns in Fako, southwest Cameroon. The field study, ran from November 2021 to December 2023, using a questionnaire to collect information on farmers demographic, and their knowledge of pesticide classes, and the related risk of associated with the handling of agrochemicals. Results show that all vegetable farmers, particularly those engaged in agribusiness, employ pesticide inputs to maximize production. Six pesticides, two fertilizer types, and one unknown substance were identified. While 23 active compounds were found, the most utilized were abamectin, emamectin (10.46%), dimethoate (9.30%,) and ethoprophos (8.13%). Two active chemicals, dimethoate and methalaxyl, are illegal yet remain in circulation. Toxicological classes I and II, with the greatest harmful effect on human health, were the most commonly utilized (64.27%). Thirty-nine percent of farmers never use personal protection equipment when working with agrochemicals, demonstrating a significant gap in knowledge and awareness of agrochemicals and their various applications and handling procedures in the field. The government should implement an intensive specialized educational program for on-field farmers with incentives in order to promote sustainable agriculture methods that ensure environmental and human safety.

Localization and role of metabotropic glutamate receptors subtype 5 in the gastrointestinal tract

Metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype 5 (mGluR5) is a Group I mGlu subfamily of receptors coupled to the inositol trisphosphate/diacylglycerol pathway. Like other mGluR subtypes, mGluR5s contain a phylogenetically conserved, extracellular orthosteric binding site and a more variable allosteric binding site, located on the heptahelical transmembrane domain. The mGluR5 receptor has proved to be a key pharmacological target in conditions affecting the central nervous system (CNS) but its presence outside the CNS underscores its potential role in pathologies affecting peripheral organs such as the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and accessory digestive organs such as the tongue, liver and pancreas. Following identification of mGluR5s in the mouth, various studies have subsequently demonstrated its involvement in mechanical allodynia, inflammation, pain and oral cancer. mGluR5 expression has also been identified in gastroesophageal vagal pathways. Indeed, experimental and human studies have demonstrated that mGluR5 blockade reduces transient lower sphincter relaxation and reflux episodes. In the intestine, mGluR5s have been shown to be involved in the control of intestinal inﬂammation, visceral pain and the epithelial barrier function. In the liver, mGluR5s have a permissive role in the onset of ischemic injury in rat and mice hepatocytes. Conversely, livers from mice treated with selective negative allosteric modulators and mGluR5 knockout mice are protected against ischemic injury. Similar results have been observed in experimental models of free-radical injury and in vivo mouse models of acetaminophen intoxication. Finally, mGluR5s in the pancreas are associated with insulin secretion control. The picture is, however, far from complete as the review attempts to establish in particular as regards identifying specific targets and innovative therapeutic approaches for the treatment of GI disorders.
