Prevalence of Antimicrobial Resistance of ESKAPE Pathogens before and during Pandemic COVID-19 Pandemic in a University Affiliated Hospital in Tangerang, Indonesia

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance is the most important health problems currently. Antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent bacterial co-infections in hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and lack of surveillance were associated with antimicrobial resistance. ESKAPE pathogens consisting of E. faecium, S. aureus, K. pneumoniae, A. baumanii, P. aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp. are associated with healthcare-associated infections. Patients and Methods: This descriptive, retrospective, longitudinal study aims to describe the resistance rates of bloodstream infection due to ESKAPE pathogens from patients admitted in Siloam Hospital Karawaci, before and during COVID-19 pandemic (January 1st, 2019 until December 31st, 2022). Out of 296 ESKAPE pathogens collected from blood samples, S. aureus was the most frequent species, followed by K. pneumoniae, A. baumannii, P. aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp., and E. faecium. Results: Resistance rates of E. faecium were alarmingly high from 2019 until 2021, but in 2022 no sample was found. Resistance rates of S. aureus and MRSA decreased from 2019 until 2021 and then increased again in 2022 while for K. pneumoniae it peaked in 2020 and reached the lowest in 2022. Resistance pattern of A. baumanii was not favorable from 2019 until 2021, but decreased dramatically in 2022. Resistance pattern of P. aeruginosa was quite variable in 2021 and 2022 while for Enterobacter spp. it was variable in 2020 to 2022. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic affected the antimicrobial resistance pattern of ESKAPE pathogens in Banten province, Indonesia. Resistance rates increased as the pandemic peaked in 2020 to 2021, and decreased as the pandemic resolves in 2022.

Nickel,Lead and Zinc Sorption in a Reclaimed Settling Pond Soil

The wastes used to amend soils sometimes have high concentrations of metals such as nickel(Ni), lead(Pb) and zinc(Zn). To determine the capacity of soils to retain these metals, the sorption capacities of different mine soils with and without reclamation treatments(tree vegetation and waste amendment) for Ni, Pb and Zn in individual and competitive situations were evaluated using the batch sorption technique. The untreated settling pond soil had low capacity for Ni, Pb and Zn retention. The site amended with wastes(sewage sludges and paper mill residues) increased the sorption capacity most, probably because of the higher concentrations of soil components with high retention capacity such as carbon and clay fraction. No significant competition was observed between metals in the competitive sorption experiment, indicating that the maximum of sorption was not achieved by adding 0.5 mmol L^(-1) of metal. We can conclude that, despite the possible additions of Ni, Pb and Zn from wastes to degraded soils, sewage sludges and paper mill residues have a high sorption capacity that would prevent the metals from being in a mobile form.

Debris flow hazard assessment by means of numerical simulations:implications for the Rotolon creek valley(Northern Italy)

On 4^(th) November 2010, a debris flow detached from a large debris cover accumulated above the lowermost portion of the Rotolon landslide(Vicentine Pre-Alps, NE Italy) and channelized in the valley below within the Rotolon Creek riverbed. Such event evolved into a highly mobile and sudden debris flow, damaging some hydraulic works and putting at high risk four villages located along the creek banks. A monitoring campaign was carried out by means of a ground based radar interferometer(GB-In SAR) to evaluate any residual displacement risk in the affected area and in the undisturbed neighbouring ***, starting from the current slope condition, a landslide runout numerical modelling was performed by means of DAN-3D code to assess the impacted areas, flow velocity, and deposit distribution of the simulated events. The rheological parameters necessary for an accurate modelling were obtained through the back analysis of the 2010 debris flow event. Back analysis was calibrated with all of the available terrain data coming from field surveys and ancillary documents, such as topographic,geomorphological and geological maps, with pre-and post-event Li DAR derived DTMs, and with orthophotos. Finally, to identify new possible future debris flow source areas as input data for the new modelling, all the obtained terrain data were reanalysed and integrated with the GB-In SAR displacement maps; consequently, new simulations were made to forecast future events. The results show that the integration of the selected modelling technique with ancillary data and radar displacement maps can be a very useful tool for managing problems related to debris flow events in the examined area.

A hard/soft SmCo5/ Fe nanocomposite magnetic bilayer system is fabricated on x-ray transparent 100-200 nm thin SiaN4 films by magnetron sputtering. The microscopic magnetic domain pattern and its behaviours during magnetization reversal in the hard and the soft magnetic phases are studied separately by element specific magnetic soft x-ray microscopy at a spatial resolution of better than 25 Nm. We observe that the domain patterns for the soft and hard phases show coherent behaviours in varying magnetic fields. We derive local M（H） curves from the images of Fe and SmCo5 separately and find the switches for hard and soft phases to be the same.

Community resilience is becoming a growing concern for authorities and decision *** paper introduces two indicator-based methods to evaluate the resilience of communities based on the PEOPLES *** is a multi-layered framework that defines community resilience using seven *** of the dimensions is described through a set of resilience indicators collected from literature and they are linked to a measure allowing the analytical computation of the indicator’s *** first method proposed in this paper requires data on previous disasters as an input and returns as output a performance function for each indicator and a performance function for the whole *** second method exploits a knowledge-based fuzzy modeling for its *** method allows a quantitative evaluation of the PEOPLES indicators using descriptive knowledge rather than deterministic data including the uncertainty involved in the *** output of the fuzzy-based method is a resilience index for each indicator as well as a resilience index for the *** paper also introduces an open source online tool in which the first method is implemented.A case study illustrating the application of the first method and the usage of the tool is also provided in the paper.

Ethnobotanical Knowledge of Local Cassava Varieties and Characteristics Desired by Farmers in Sierra Leone

It has been observed that farmers adopt only a small number of the “improved” cultivars. A nationwide germplasm collection exercise in February 2018 provided the opportunity to collect indigenous technical knowledge (ITK) of the diversity of cassava varieties in terms of: their morphology, growth characteristics, uses (of tubers and leaves) and desirable characteristics. The objective is to see to what extent the objectives of the plant breeders are consistent with what farmers’ value. We performed 405 structured and semi-structured interviews with informants who were selected based on “purposive household sampling”. We found a considerable turn-over in cassava varieties, just over a third (45) have been in cultivation for at least 40 years, however, since the end of the civil war an additional 25 varieties are cultivated, while others varieties seem to have disappeared. One major issue with estimating turnover of varieties is whether the same variety might have several local names, and conversely the same name may be applied to different cultivars. Farmers overwhelmingly use ITK to select and preserve cassava germplasm for future use. Farmers have a clear preference for: sweet taste, high yield, early maturity and easy cooking and preferentially adopt cultivars that have those qualities. Cassava is primarily a human food eaten boiled or fried, some are processed into fufu and gari, and uses as livestock feed and medicine are reported but at low levels. The information produced during this study could help plant breeders choose selection criteria that will ensure their efforts are adopted and sustainable, the importance of preserving the genetic resources of local cultivars is also highlighted.

In the past 20-30 years, developmental biologists have made tremendous progress in identifying genes required for the specifica-tion of individual cell types of an organ and in describing how they interact in genetic networks. In comparison, very little is known about the mechanisms that regulate tissue polarity and overall organ patterning. Gynoecia and fruits from members of the Brassicaceae family of flowering plants provide excellent model systems to study organ patterning and tissue specification because they become partitioned into distinct domains whose formation is determined by polarity establishment both at a cellular and whole tissue level. Interactions among key regulators of Arabidopsis gynoecium and fruit development have revealed a network of upstream transcription factor activities required for such tissue differentiation. Regulation of the plant hormone auxin is emerging as both an immediate downstream output and input of these activities, and here we aim to provide an overview of the current knowledge regarding the link between auxin and female reproductive development in plants. In this review, we will also demonstrate how available data can be exploited in a mathematical modeling approach to reveal and understand the feedback regulatory circuits that underpin the polarity establishment, necessary to guide auxin flows.

Towards explicit representation of an artificial neural network model: Comparison of two artificial neural network rule extraction approaches

In the quest for interpretable models,two versions of a neural network rule extraction algorithm were proposed and *** two algorithms are called the Piece-Wise Linear Artificial Neural Network(PWL-ANN)and enhanced Piece-Wise Linear Artificial Neural Network(enhanced PWL-ANN)*** PWL-ANN algorithm is a decomposition artificial neural network(ANN)rule extraction algorithm,and the enhanced PWL-ANN algorithm improves upon the PWL-ANN algorithm and extracts multiple linear regression equations from a trained ANN model by approximating the hidden sigmoid activation functions using N-piece linear *** doing so,the algorithm provides interpretable models from the originally trained opaque ANN models.A detailed application case study illustrates how the generated enhanced-PWL-ANN models can provide understandable IF-THEN rules about a problem *** of the results generated by the two versions of the PWL-ANN algorithm showed that in comparison to the PWL-ANN models,the enhanced-PWL-ANN models support improved fidelities to the originally trained ANN *** results also showed that more concise rule sets could be generated using the enhanced-PWL-ANN *** a more simplified set of rules is desired,the enhanced-PWL-ANN algorithm can be combined with the decision tree *** application of the algorithms to domains related to petroleum engineering can help enhance understanding of the problems.
