Technosols Made of Wastes to Improve Physico-Chemical Characteristics of a Copper Mine Soil

Mine tailing soils created from the copper extraction in Touro Mine （Northwest Spain） are very degraded both physically and chemically. Three plots in this mine tailing were amended with Technosols in different proportions in each one to know if this mixture improved the physico-chemical characteristics of the mine soil and contaminated it with heavy metals. The Technosols were made of organic wastes, including mussel residues, wood fragments, sewage sludges and paper mill ashes. An unamended area was used as a control soil. Pseudototal and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid （DTPA）-extractable contents of A1, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn were determined in soil samples. The untreated soil had significant limitations for vegetation growth. All the Technosols improved the properties of the mine soil by increasing organic carbon and pH value, but they added Ni, Pb or Zn to the soil. It is advisable to check whether the heavy metal concentrations of the wastes are hazardous or not before adding to soils. It is also necessary to study the effect of these wastes over time and in more areas to conclude if they are actually favourable to restore degraded mine soils.

Amid the scarcity of lunar meteorites and the imperative to preserve their scientific value,nondestructive testing methods are *** translates into the application of microscale rock mechanics experiments and scanning electron microscopy for surface composition *** study explores the application of Machine Learning algorithms in predicting the mineralogical and mechanical properties of DHOFAR 1084,JAH 838,and NWA 11444 lunar meteorites based solely on their atomic percentage *** a prior-data fitted network model,we achieved near-perfect classification scores for meteorites,mineral groups,and individual *** regressor models,notably the KNeighbor model,provided an outstanding estimate of the mechanical properties—previously measured by nanoindentation tests—such as hardness,reduced Young’s modulus,and elastic *** considerations on the nature and physical properties of the minerals forming these meteorites,including porosity,crystal orientation,or shock degree,are essential for refining *** findings underscore the potential of Machine Learning in enhancing mineral identification and mechanical property estimation in lunar exploration,which pave the way for new advancements and quick assessments in extraterrestrial mineral mining,processing,and research.

On February 16,2021,an artificial object moving slowly over the Mediterranean was recorded by the Spanish Meteor Network(SPMN).Based on astrometric measurements,we identified this event as the reentry engine burn of a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle’s upper *** study this event in detail,we adapted the plane intersection method for near-straight meteoroid trajectories to analyze the slow and curved orbits associated with artificial *** corroborate our results,we approximated the orbital elements of the upper stage using four pieces of“debris”cataloged by the ***’s Combined Space Operations *** on these calculations,we also estimated the possible deorbit hazard zone using the MSISE90 model *** provide guidance regarding the interference that these artificial bolides may generate in fireball ***,because artificial bolides will likely become more frequent in the future,we point out the new role that ground-based detection networks can play in the monitoring of potentially hazardous artificial objects in near-Earth space and in determining the strewn fields of artificial space debris.

Clinical studies have associated the consumption of tiger nuts(Cyperus esculentus L.),and its derivates,with improved macular health,due to the presence of certain liposoluble compounds with antioxidant activity,especially to lutein and ***,the benefits derived from ingestion of tiger nut products may vary depending on the release of these compounds from the food matrix to the digestive fluids and their eventual ***,this study aims at evaluating the influence of the food matrix on the liberation and final bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds with positive impact on macular health in different tiger nut products(flour,oil,and milk with and without added sucrose).The in vitro digestibility of macronutrients and the release of vitamin E,lutein,zeaxanthin,β-carotene,and total polyphenols of tiger nut products was *** addition,the antioxidant activity of the bioaccessible fraction was determined by ABTS,DPPH and FRAP *** showed that tiger nut milk resulted in the greatest proteolysis and total polyphenols ***,flour can contribute to hypoglycaemia and,alongside oil,were the best sources of carotenoids and vitamin *** digestion increased the antioxidant activity of milk,but the addition of sucrose decreased this *** food matrix was a highly relevant factor protecting or hindering the digestion and release of bioactive compounds in the digestive ***,tiger nut products are presented as ingredients with great potential to develop functional foods oriented to macular health.

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is an excellent immunological model for understanding the mechanisms developed by non-cytopathic viruses and tumors to evade the adaptative immune *** antigen-specific cytotoxic T cell response is essential for keeping HCV under control,but during persistent infection,these cells become exhausted or even *** exhaustion process is progressive and depends on the infection duration and level of *** high antigenic load and long duration of infection,T cells become extremely exhausted and ultimately disappear due to *** development of exhaustion involves the impairment of positive co-stimulation induced by regulatory cytokines,such as transforming growth factor beta *** cytokine downregulates tumor necrosis factor receptor(TNFR)-associated factor 1(TRAF1),the signal transducer of the T cell co-stimulatory molecule TNFR superfamily member 9(known as 4-1BB).This impairment correlates with the low reactivity of T cells and an exhaustion *** with interleukin-7 in vitro restores TRAF1 expression and rescues T cell effector *** process of TRAF1 loss and its in vitro recovery is hierarchical,and more affected by severe disease *** conclusion,TRAF1 dynamics on T cells define a new pathogenic model that describes some aspects of the natural history of HCV,and sheds light on novel immunotherapy strategies for chronic viral infections and cancer.

To the Editor：We read with outstanding interest the article by Celik et al. It is the first external description of the Hamburg＇s preoperative pancreatic resection （PREPARE） score since it was published in 2014 by Uzunoglu et al. According to the latter authors, it is necessary to stratify risk of major morbidity and mortality before performing a pancreatic resection, and PREPARE score is a simple index, validated in a multicenter cohort of patients undergoing this group of technically demanding procedures.

Chronic hepatitis B(CHB) remains a challenging global health problem, with nearly one million related deaths per year. Nucleos(t)ide analogue(NA) treatment suppresses viral replication but does not provide complete cure of the hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection. The accepted endpoint for therapy is the loss of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag), but this is hardly ever achieved. Therefore, indefinite treatment is usually required. Many different studies have evaluated NA therapy discontinuation after several years of NA treatment and before HBs Ag loss. The results have indicated that the majority of patients can remain off therapy, with some even reaching HBs Ag seroconversion. Fortunately, this strategy has proved to be safe, but it is essential to consider the risk of liver damage and other comorbidities and to ensure aclose follow-up of the candidates before considering this strategy. Unanswered questions remain, namely in which patients could this strategy be effective and what is the optimal time point at which to perform it. To solve this enigma, we should keep in mind that the outcome will ultimately depend on the equilibrium between HBV and the host's immune system. Viral parameters that have been described as good predictors of response in HBe Ag(+) cases, have proven useless in HBe Ag(-) ones. Since antiviral immunity plays an essential role in the control of HBV infection, we sought to review and explain potential immunological biomarkers to predict safe NA discontinuation in both groups.

Vehicle electrification has emerged as a global strategy to address climate change and emissions externalities from the transportation *** of charging infrastructure is needed to accelerate technology adoption;however,managers and policymakers have had limited evidence on the use of public charging stations due to poor data sharing and decentralized ownership across *** this article,we use machine learning based classifiers to reveal insights about consumer charging behavior in 72 detected languages including *** investigate 10 years of consumer reviews in East and Southeast Asia from 2011 to 2021 to enable infrastructure evaluation at a larger geographic scale than previously *** find evidence that charging stations at government locations result in higher failure rates with consumers compared to charging stations at private points of *** evidence contrasts with predictions in the *** European markets,where the performance is closer to *** also find that networked stations with communication protocols provide a relatively higher quality of charging services,which favors policy support for connectivity,particularly for underserved or remote areas.

The transient response of a system of independent electrodes buried in a semi-infinite conducting medium is studied. Using a simple and versatile numerical scheme written by the authors and based on the Electric Field Integral Equation (EFIE), the effect caused by harmonic signals ranging on frequency from Hz to hundred of MHz, and also by lightning type driving signal striking at a remote point far from the conductors, is extensively studied. The value of the scalar potential appearing on the electrodes as a function of the frequency of the applied signal is one of the variables investigated. Other features such as the input impedance at the injection point of the signal and the Ground Potential Rise (GPR) over the electrode system are also discussed.
