The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of measures aimed at correcting.obesity in women and including.brig.t lig.t exposure during.aerobic exercise combined with a restrictive diet. A one-stag., randomized study involved 80 obese women ag.d 20 to 58 years. The inclusion criterion for selecting.participants for this research was the presence of primary alimentary-constitutional obesity with body mass index equal to or hig.er than 30 kg.m2. All the women were distributed into three g.oups according.to the set of applied treatments. In g.oup 1, the women were on a restrictive diet;in g.oup 2, the restrictive diet was accompanied with daily aerobic exercise;in g.oup 3, women were exposed to brig.t lig.t during.exercise. Before and after the treatment course (3 weeks), body weig.t, waist and hip circumferences were measured;fat amount was determined by the impedancemetry method;and oxyg.n consumption was determined by indirect calorimetry. Women in g.oup 1 had reduced body weig.t, waist and hip circumferences, fat mass and oxyg.n consumption. Similar chang.s were identified in women of g.oup 2, but weig.t loss was g.eater, and the level of oxyg.n consumption increased as compared to the baseline. In women of g.oup 3, weig.t loss and increased oxyg.n consumption were more pronounced than in those of g.oup 2. The number of metabolic equivalents (MET) in women of g.oup 3 increased to nearly 1, which corresponded to the value of this index that reflected the resting.metabolic rate in patients with normal body weig.t. Thus, exposure to brig.t full-spectrum lig.t increases energ. metabolism and enhances the effectiveness of exercises, despite prolong.d food restriction, which is one of the mechanisms to improve the efficiency of obesity correction.

In the dynamics of the disease development, diuresis and g.ycosuria increase in alloxan-susceptible rats, while in alloxan-resistant rats the increase in the values of these indices is expressed to a lesser extent, and they beg.n to decrease by day 8 of the disease. In alloxan-susceptible rats, the mass index of adrenal g.and is increased, and that of thymus is decreased and corticosterone concentration in blood, adrenal g.and and urine as well as alanine and aspartate aminotransferase activities in liver are increased;in alloxan-resistant rats the values of these indices do not differ from those of rats of the control g.oup.

The purpose of the study was to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome as a cluster of risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus and its individual components in g.oups of men and women with primary obesity having.different types of fat distribution. The study involved 142 men and 185 women with primary alimentary-constitutional obesity. The study participants were divided into 2 g.oups depending.on waist-to-hip ratio value. Standardized criteria were used to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its individual components among.the examined men and women. The ratios of the number of participants with lower or upper type of fat distribution in men and women were 28:114 and 84:101, respectively. Hence the frequency of lower type of fat distribution was 19.7% in men and 45.4% in women (p g.yceridemia (1.4 times), low HDL-C (1.6 times), and hypertension (2 times). The frequency of metabolic syndrome in men with lower type of fat distribution was lower by 2.7 times than that of men with upper type of fat distribution. Women with lower type of fat distribution as compared to upper type had a lower prevalence of abdominal obesity (1.2 times), hypertrig.yceridemia (1.8 times), low HDL-C (1.2-fold), and hypertension (in 1.5 times). The frequency of metabolic syndrome in women with lower type of fat distribution was lower by 1.9 times than that of women with upper type of fat distribution. Both men and women in the g.oups with lower type of fat distribution were missing.such a component of metabolic syndrome as hyperg.ycemia i.e. they had the minimal risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Inflammatory g.anulomatous diseases are cha- racterized by a hig. concentration of g.anu- lomas in tissue interstitium in which phag.cytic cells that produce active oxyg.n and nitrog.n metabolites are accumulated. Because of their hig. reactivity, free radicals react with unsatu- rated fatty acids that are components of mem- brane phospholipids, activate lipid peroxidation processes (LPP), the products of which have a cytotoxic effect. The role of free radicals in the pathog.nesis of diabetes and its complications has been proved. The purpose of the present work was to investig.te the activity of lipid peroxidation processes in the liver of rats with silica-induced g.anulomatous inflammation, allo- xan diabetes and their combination. The expe- riment involved male albino rats divided into four main g.oups. The first g.oup were rats with silica g.anulomatous inflammation (SL rats);the second g.oup were alloxan diabetic rats (DB rats);and the third g.oup were alloxan diabetic rats, in which silica g.anulomatous inflammation was induced 8 days after the disease onset (DB_SL rats), the fourth g.oup were rats that were injected saline physiolog.cal solution into the tail vein (control rats). Rats were withdrawn from the experiment within different time pe- riods after the induction of patholog.cal pro- cesses. LPP activity in liver homog.nates was determined by the relative concentration of lipo- peroxides in the heptane-isopropanol system and the concentration of products of the reac- tion with 2-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substan- ces (TBARS). The severity of carbohydrate meta- bolism disorders was evaluated throug. the measurement of the blood level of g.ucose, daily urine volume and the relative weig.t of the kindneys. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence and severity of erectile dysfunction (ED) and hypog.nadism in 193 men presenting.with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs) in the young.r (20 - 39 years old) and older (40 - 60 years old) ag. g.oups depending.on the presence of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Trig.ycerides, g.ucose and hig.-density lipoprotein cholesterol, serum total testosterone (TT), sex hormone-binding.g.obulin, prostate-specific antig.n, pituitary hormones levels were measured in serum. Standardized criteria (2009) were used to determine the prevalence of MetS. Patients were assessed based on the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and the IPSS-Quality of Life (IPSS-QoL) for LUTSs and the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) for ED. Hypog.nadism was determined in accordance with the ISA, ISSAM, EAU, EAA and ASA recommendations. In men with MetS in the young.r ag. g.oup the incidence of ED was 2.4 times hig.er, and that of low TT level and hypog.nadism was 8.4 times hig.er compared to men without the syndrome. In the older ag. g.oup, an increased incidence of ED and low TT level in men with MetS compared to men without the syndrome was on the trend level, but the incidence of hypog.nadism was for sure hig.er (by 1.6 times). In conclusion, the study showed that ED and hypog.nadism are associated with MetS by a hig. deg.ee of certainty in young.men with LUTSs. In men of the older ag. g.oup with LUTSs, the presence of MetS is not so clearly associated with ED and hypog.nadism due to the fact that the incidence of these urog.nital diseases is also hig. in men without MetS.
