The increasing pressure from consumers and policy makers to reduce the use of synthetic polymers,whose production contributes to the depletion of non-renewable resources and are usually non-biodegradable,has prompted the efforts to find suitable bio-based sources for the production of *** oils have been a frequently spotted in this search because they are versatile,highly available and a low cost liquid biosource,which can be used in the synthesis of a wide plethora of different polymers and reactive *** the same idea of reducing the environmental stress,the traditional polyurethanes that are soluble in organic solvents have been targeted for replacement,particularly in applications such as adhesives and coatings,in which the solvent is released to the atmosphere increasing the air ***,waterborne polyurethanes(WBPU),which are polyurethane dispersions(PUD)prepared in aqueous media,release benign water to the atmosphere during use as supported or self-standing films for different *** this brief review,the contributions to the development of WBPUs based on vegetable oils are discussed,focusing mainly on the contributions of the last *** synthesis of ionic and nonionic PUDs,their characterization and the properties of the resulting dried materials,as well as derived composite materials are considered.

Considering the recommended indications for Helicobacter pylori(***)eradication therapy and the broad spectrum of available diagnostic methods,a reliable diagnosis is mandatory both before and after eradication *** highly accurate tests should be used in clinical practice,and the sensitivity and specificity of an adequate test should exceed 90%.The choice of tests should take into account clinical circumstances,the likelihood ratio of positive and negative tests,the cost-effectiveness of the testing strategy and the availability of the *** review concerns some of the most recent developments in diagnostic methods of *** infection,namely the contribution of novel endoscopic evaluation methodologies for the diagnosis of *** infection,such as magnifying endoscopy techniques and *** addition,the diagnostic contribution of histology and the urea breath test was explored recently in specific clinical settings and patient *** studies recommend enhancing the number of biopsy fragments for the rapid urease *** culture from the gastric biopsy is the gold standard technique,and is recommended for antibiotic susceptibility *** is used for initial screening and the stool antigen test is particularly used when the urea breath test is not available,while molecular methods have gained attention mostly for detecting antibiotic resistance.

Aim: To investigate whether testosterone, estrogens, vasectomy, experimental cryptorchidism, varicocele or agingwould induce changes in the cytokine environment of the mouse testis. Methods: In adult male BALB/c mice,testosterone implants, estradiol benzoate, vasectomy, unilateral cryptorchidism, unilateral varicocele were adminis-tered/performed. The mice were followed up for different periods of time and were then sacrificed with testes incisedfor examination. The control mice received the vehicle or sham-operation. Results: IL-10 was present in Leydigcells of nearly every testis and IL-10 + macrophages in 39% of testes. IL-6 was found in the testes of intact adultmice, mice treated with testosterone for 70 days, cryptorchid testes and sham-operated testes. Conclusion: Resultssuggest that IL-10 might be involved in the generation of the immunologically privileged microenvironment in the testis.(Asian J Androl 2001 Mar; 3: 9-19)

The information about ecological topics of mosquitoes at the southernmost tip of South America is fragmentary and scarce. The present study evaluates lentic freshwater habitat located in the surroundings of main roads of the Argentine sector of Tierra del Fuego as larval habitat of Ochlerotatus albifasciatus, also analyzes the relationships between their presence and several environmental variables: water turbidity, percentage of gramineans, percentage of macrophytes, presence of crustaceous cyanobacteria, and filamentous chlorophyceans. Mosquito inmatures were collected with dip nets. A generalized linear model (GLM) with negative binomial error distribution was used to determine the effects of different variables of the water bodies on abundance of Oc. albifasciatus in the larval habitats. Collections were made in 45 lentic freshwater bodies. Preimaginal stages were found in 17.70% of the studied habitats. Oc. albifasciatus was the only culicid registered. The GLM explained 93.17% of the variability, and showed a negative relationship between the abundances of Oc. albifasciatus and water turbidity, and a positive relationship with percent-age of gramineans. The gramineans would improve food supply, because the plants are providing suitable substrate for different types of microbiota, a layer of leaves would protect eggs from extreme temperatures, and could help the larvae to hide from potential predators. The negative association between abundance of this species with water turbidity could be related to the presence of vegetation that favors retaining the substrate, reducing water turbidity.

The Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is a formula of a traditional Chinese medicine that is used to treat asthma patients and has been shown to have several important properties,such as antioxidant and free radical scavenging *** influence of an extract of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan on the labeling of blood constituents with technetium-99m was *** blood(Wistar rats) was incubated with the extract,stannous chloride and technetium-99m,as sodium *** were centrifuged and aliquots of plasma and blood cells were separated and precipitated with trichloroacetic acid,to obtain soluble and insoluble fractions of the blood *** percentage of radioactivity(%ATI) in all the fractions was *** analysis of the results shows that the extract at the highest concentration used(70 mg/mL) decreased significantly(P<0.05) the %ATI(from 96.48 ± 1.19 to 54.46 ± 7.38) on blood cells compartment,(from 81.11 ± 4.15 to 61.33 ± 4.74) on insoluble fractions of blood cells and(from 65.91 ± 2.44 to 13.15 ± 3.62) on insoluble fractions of *** conclusion,the results suggest that the substances present on this extract can alter this labeling process,probably due to(i) redox properties(antioxidant and chelator activities) and/or(ii) specific actions in the binding sites where the 99mTc would be bound on the blood *** a consequence,precaution is suggested on the interpretation of the nuclear medicine results from performed with blood constituents labeled with 99m Tc in patients that have undertaken LWDHW,although the current findings were obtained in experimental animal models.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between soil biota such as microbial activity,soil fauna(e.g.,earthworms and enchytraeids),and soil physical and chemical *** study area was located in Pieniny National Park(PNP)in the Carpathian Mountains in southern *** samples were collected from six forest monitoring areas of PNP from two soil layers(at 0–15 cm and 15–30 cm down,respectively).The investigated soils were classified to eutric cambisols and had silt or silt loam soil *** analysis,soil aggregate stability index was connected with other physical,chemical,and biological soil *** was noted that the stability index of 3 mm to 5 mm soil aggregates influenced pH and dissolved organic *** stability index of 2 mm to 3 mm soil aggregates was positively correlated with dissolved organic carbon,soil moisture,microbial biomass carbon,total organic carbon,total nitrogen,and enchytraeid density,and negatively correlated with bulk density,particle density,porosity,and permanent wilting *** stability index of 1 mm to 2 mm soil aggregates was positively correlated with total nitrogen,enchytraeid and earthworm density and negatively correlated with particle density,porosity,and permanent wilting *** study has shown what factors create a stable soil structure in the forest soils of PNP.

Aim: The expression of the cytokines IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, IFN-γ and TNF-α and the adhesion proteins CD99 and CD106 was studied in the human testis at the protein level. Methods: The expression of the cytokines and the adhesion proteins was assessed using immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting. Results: None of the cytokines studied was present in the human testis, but CD99 and CD106 (VCAM-1) strongly were expressed in all the testes investigated. CD99 was present in the interstitial tissue of the human testis as well as in the Sertoli cells. The identity of the CD99+ interstitial cells is unclear. CD106 (VCAM-1) was present in Leydig cells as well as the basal parts of the Sertoli cells in the seminiferous tubules. In immunoblotting, CD99 was demonstrated at molecular ratios of 46-57 (kD). This is a novel isoform of the molecule. Conclusion: The human testis produces both CD99 and CD106 and as CD106 mediates cell binding to lymphocytes, it is possible that the human Leydig cells adhere to lymphocytes like the rodent Leydig cells. Mediterranean Berries as Inhibitors of Lipid Oxidation in Porcine Burger Patties Subjected to Cooking and Chilled Storage

The efifciency of extracts from Arbutus unedo L. （AU）, Crataegus monogyna L. （CM）, Rosa canina L. （RC）, and Rubus ulmifolius Schott. （RU） to inhibit lipid oxidation in raw, cooked and cooked and chilled （2°C/12 d） porcine burger patties, was investigated. The modiifcation of the fatty acid proifle during processing treatments （cooking and chilling）, the quantitative measurements of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances （TBA-RS）, and lipid-derived volatiles, were used as indicators of lipid oxidation. Polyunsaturated fatty acids （PUFA） gradually decreased during cooking and the subsequent storage of cooked burger patties with this decrease being signiifcantly greater （P〈0.05） in control patties than in those with added berry extracts. In accordance, the control patties showed signiifcantly higher TBA-RS numbers and counts of lipid-derived volatiles in all treatments when compared to the berry-added counterparts （P〈0.05）. Results from the present work show, for the ifrst time, that extracts from A. unedo, C. monogyna, R. canina, and R. ulmifolius are promising antioxidants which could enhance the nutritional, safety and sensory properties of porcine burger patties.

The first photometric solution in the B,V,Rcand Icfilters of the short period V1833 Ori eclipsing binary is presented based on new ground-based CCD photometric *** analyzed the BVRI photometric light curves of the system,using PHOEBE 0.31 a,a binary star modeling program,with the Wilson-Devinney method based on Roche geometry to achieve the best accordance with the photometric observations to determine their absolute parameters from the light *** updated the ephemeris of V1833 Ori using two new light curve minima derived by our new observational data from those collected in the literature and analyzed the change of the system’s orbital *** O-C analysis indicates that the variations of the orbital period of V1833 Ori with time are increasing at a rate of 3.03 ×10-7days *** distance of V1833 Ori is 173.7 ± 15.6 *** the solutions,we find that V1833 Ori is an A-subtype W UMa overcontact binary with q=0.701 mass ratio and f=1.14 fill-out *** HR diagram positions of the eclipsing binary system’s components are *** system’s absolute dimensions were compared to those of similar binaries in the log Teff-log L,logM-logL,1 ogM-logR and logM-log J0diagrams.
