Dietary Supplementation with Probiotic Strain Improves Immune-Health in Aged Mice

Ageing is associated with several anatomical and physiological changes of the organism, and the increase in global elderly population promotes the research to develop strategies to improve their quality of life. In this work, we characterized the immunological alterations naturally produced during aging in a mice model, and evaluated the effect of probiotic Lactobacillus (L.) rhamnosus CRL1505 administration on those immunological parameters. We demonstrated that L. rhamosus CRL1505 was able to improve peritoneal macrophages phagocytic activity, and the number of intestinal IgA+ cells in aged mice, reaching values of those parameters similar to young adult mice. The results of this work indicate that is plausible that the immunobiotic CRL1505 strain may find applications as a beneficial immunomodulator in aging to reinforce the intestinal and systemic immunity. The immune modulation in aging induced by L. rhamnosus CRL1505 could lead to the development of new strategies for functional foods specifically tailored for the elderly.

Considerable controversy exists concerning whether or not climate changes(particularly global warming)are causing outbreaks of a lethal amphibian pathogen,the chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis(Longcore,Pessier&*** 1999).In the present study,groups of Panamanian golden frogs(Atelopus zeteki Dunn,1993),a critically endangered amphibian thought to be nearly extinct in Panama,were exposed to varying dosages of zoospores of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis,temperatures and hydric environments in order to learn whether this species is susceptible to this pathogen and,if so,how environmental factors affect *** pathogen proved to be highly lethal for *** exposed to a dosage of 100 Bd zoospores survived significantly(P<0.0001)longer than those that had been exposed to 104 or 106 *** frogs housed at 23℃survived significantly(P<0.0001)longer than those that were housed at 17℃.Exposed frogs held in dry conditions survived significantly longer than those in wet conditions(P<0.0001).As a laboratory study,these results do not directly test hypotheses about the relation between climate change and the decline of these frogs in the field,but they inform the discussion about how environmental conditions can have an impact on the interaction between a susceptible amphibian and this *** data do not support the contention that rising global temperatures are necessary to cause the death of amphibians infected with this pathogen because the pathogen was equally lethal at 17 as at 23℃,and frogs at the warmer temperature lived significantly longer than those at the cooler one.

Prevalence of Acute Myocardial and Brain Toxicity in Emergency Department Patients Exposed to Carbon Monoxide

Introduction: Due to its severe toxicity, carbon monoxide poisoning is an emergency that leads to cardiac and brain involvement, and emergency physicians should aim to master this diagnosis. This study is intended to describe the expected prevalence of these severe toxicities in the emergency department. Materials and Methods: A retrospective cohort of consecutive patients over 16 years of age presenting with carbon monoxide poisoning to the emergency department of the Hospital Universitario Austral, Argentina, during the period from January 2018 to June 2022. The prevalence of myocardial and brain toxicity was assessed regarding percentage, continuous variables with mean and standard deviation, categorical variables with percentage and absolute frequency. Positive findings of acute neurological toxicity included seizures, syncope and coma, while cardiovascular toxicity encompassed acute myocardial infarction (MI) diagnosed by electrocardiogram or elevated troponin levels, arrhythmias, and the development of pulmonary edema/ congestive heart failure (CHF) confirmed by chest X-ray with suggestive signs or clinically compatible symptoms. Patients were followed-up for 90 days to estimate hospitalization and mortality. Results: A total of 67 patients were evaluated;44.77% of them were males with a mean age of 38.5 ± 14.97 years. The prevalence of acute myocardial toxicity was 7.46% (n: 5). Among these patients, 3 had overweight as a risk factor, and 3 showed ECG abnormalities with negative T-waves. The prevalence of acute brain toxicity was 8.9% (n: 6). In total, 37% (n: 25) of patients met the criteria for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, of which 32% (n: 8) underwent more than one session. A total of 7.46% of patients (n: 5) required hospitalization. Mortality at 90 days was 0%. Conclusion: Among the patients who presented to the emergency department, the prevalence of acute myocardial toxicity was 7.46% (n: 5), which is lower than the prevalence reported in other studies t

This paper presents a brief demonstration of Schulz’s first conjecture, which sets the upper and lower limits on the length of the shortest chain of addition. Two methods of the upper limit are demonstrated;the second one is based on the algorithm of one of the most popular methods for obtaining addition chains of a number, known as the binary method.

Dear Editor,Hydroxychloroquine(HCQ)is a drug widely used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and oncologic disorders,and was even used during a brief period of time for the therapy of COVID-19 disease[1].HCQ retinopathy has a prevalence ranging from 4.3%to 13.8%.However,for a patient with a normal screening examination the risk of developing HCQ retinopathy is very low[2].The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommended visual field(VF)and optical coherence tomography(OCT)for the screening,whereas the Royal College of Ophthalmologists advised the use of OCT and fundus autofluorescence(FAF)[2-3].

The purpose of these investigations is to find the numerical outcomes of the fractional kind of biological system based on Leptospirosis by exploiting the strength of artificial neural networks aided by scale conjugate gradient,called *** fractional derivatives have been applied to get more reliable performances of the *** mathematical form of the biological Leptospirosis system is divided into five categories,and the numerical performances of each model class will be provided by using the *** exactness of the ANNs-SCG is performed using the comparison of the reference and obtained *** reference solutions have been obtained by using theAdams numerical *** these investigations,the data selection is performed at 82%for training,while the statics for both testing and authentication is selected as 9%.The procedures based on the recurrence,mean square error,error histograms,regression,state transitions,and correlation will be accomplished to validate the fitness,accuracy,and reliability of the ANNs-SCG scheme.

The effect of the addition of natural antioxidants from strawberry tree （Arbutus unedo L.; AU） and dog rose （Rosa canina L.; RC）, in frankfurters elaborated with or without the addition of antioxidant additives （sodium ascorbate and nitrite） was studied. Six different types of experimental frankfurters were prepared depending on the addition of phenolic-rich extracts from RC and AU and the presence （P） or absence （C） of antioxidant additives. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances （TBARS）-numbers signiifcantly increased during chilled storage of C-frankfurters while additives and fruit phenolics inhibited lipid oxidation in P-frankfurters. The amount of protein carbonyls signiifcantly increased in all treatments except in P-AU frankfurters. The discoloration process that occurred during the chilled storage was reduced by the addition of substances with proven antioxidant activity （P-frankfurters）. Texture characteristics as hardness, springiness, cohesiveness and gumminess also suffered a signiifcant deterioration in C-frankfurters. The use of phenolic fruit extracts in combination with traditional antioxidant additives is a successful strategy to enhance the oxidative stability of frankfurters without modifying their color and texture properties.
