Mapping the Spatial Distributions of Water Quality and Their Interpolation with Land Use/Land Cover Using GIS and Remote Sensing in Noyyal River Basin, Tamil Nadu, India

During the past decade, major studies have identified hydrogen as the safest fuel and its demand has been on the rise ever since. This paper looks into the different biological methods of hydrogen production and the economics involved in-order to identify the most economical and environment friendly method of biohydrogen production. A detailed study has been conducted regarding the methods of production, the types of reactors and raw-materials required. The cost requirement of each of the aspects involved in the processes have been looked into. The study proves the Direct Biophotolysis method to be the least favourable in-terms of land requirement and costs and Indirect Biophotolysis and Photofermentation to be amongst the better options available.

Noyyal River is historically, ecologically and culturally significant river in Kongu region of western Tamilnadu. More than 100 villages are situated along the banks of the Noyyal River and it’s the was the best site of inhabitation on both the sides of the river up to 3 km from the river before the emergence of the issue of industrial pollution. But now river Noyyal was highly polluted by domestic and industrial growth by discharging of both domestic and industrial are discharged without any treatment. So methodology was proposed to identify the suitable zone for groundwater quality by using land use/land cover data along with groundwater quality in analytic hierarchy process. Suitability of groundwater for drinking was identified in the study area by collecting 63 samples in both postmonsoon and premonsoon as per Indian standards. To evaluate the land use pattern of the study area, land use/land cover map was prepared from satellite images of LISS III by using supervised classification according to National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) using Erdas imagine 8.4 software. Using ArcGIS software, weighted overlay analyses were carried out to identify the suitable zones for groundwater quality in postmonsoon and premonsoon and finally these two thematic maps were integrated with land use/land cover map to identify the suitable zone for quality of water. The interpretation shows that groundwater in most of the locations were unsuitable for drinking purposes.

Objective:To evaluate phytochemicals and antimicrobial activity of Randia spinosa(Thunb.)*** Dillenia pentagyna *** extracts against human pathogens such as Gram positive bacteria(Streptococcus faecalis,Bacillus subtilis and Staphyllococcus aureus),Gram negative bacteria(Escherichia coli,Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa),and a fungus Candida ***:Antimicrobial activity of methanol,acetone and ethyl acetate extracts of the two plants against the human pathogens was investigated by agar well diffusion method,and qualitative phytochemical screening was conducted for the presence of phytoconstituents such as alkaloids,catechins,coumarins,flavonoids,phenols,quinones,saponins,steroids,tannins and ***:The qualitative phytochemical analysis showed the presence of diverse range of compounds like alkaloids,flavonoids,phenols,steroids,tannins,terpenoids and *** plants exhibited broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities against all the tested bacterial and fungal *** maximum zone of inhibition was observed in methanol extracts when compared with acetone and ethyl acetate *** present study demonstrated that the selected plants had promising effect on the bacterial and fungal ***:The phytochemicals in the plants may be potentially responsible for the antimicrobial efficacy of these medicinal plants.

What Does Monogamy in Higher Powers of a Correlation Measure Mean?

We examine here the proposition that all multiparty quantum states can be made monogamous by considering positive integral powers of any quantum correlation measure. With Rajagopal-Rendell quantum deficit as the measure of quantum correlations for symmetric 3-qubit pure states, we illustrate that monogamy inequality is satisfied for higher powers of quantum deficit. We discuss the drawbacks of this inequality in quantification of correlations in the state. We also prove a monogamy inequality in higher powers of classical mutual information and bring out the fact that such inequality needs not necessarily imply restricted shareability of correlations. We thus disprove the utility of higher powers of any correlation measure in establishing monogamous nature in multiparty quantum states.

An accurate frequency synchronization method using the zadoff-chu (ZC) constant envelop preamble is analyzed, and a new preamble weighted by pseudo-noise sequence is used for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Using this method, frequency offset estimator range is greatly enlarged with no loss in accuracy. The range of the frequency estimation is ±30 of subcarrier spacing using ZC sequence as preamble. Simulations in the MATLAB for an AWGN channel show that the proposed method achieves superior performance to existing techniques in terms of frequency accuracy and range.

Campylobacter jejuni is one of the leading causes of human gastroenteritis. Campylobacter jejuni requires special conditions and media in the laboratory for its growth. In nature, however, this organism is able to survive in very diverse and hostile environments and produce disease in humans and animals. The different mechanisms by which C. jejuni survives stressful conditions in the environment still remain unclear. Stress-adaptation may be one of the factors helping this organism to survive stresses. Some C. jejuni strains have been found to have increased antibiotic resistance in last several years. To determine the effect of acid adaptation on the antibiotic sensitivity profile of C. jejuni, 4 different isolates of C. jejuni (a human isolate and 3 poultry isolates) were exposed to an acid pH of 5.5 and then rechallenged with different stresses. The antibiotic sensitivity profiles of C. jejuni after stress-adaptation were compared with antibiotic sensitivity profiles of non-stressed C. jejuni using the Kirby Bauer agar disc diffusion assay. The antibiotic sensitivity profiles of the C. jejuni isolates used in this study were found to change when the acidadapted bacteria were subjected to further stresses such as an acidic pH of 4.5, aerobic atmosphere and starvation. In the majority of the cases, antibiotic-resistant C. jejuni isolates were found to be more sensitive to antibiotics after stress-adaptation, but in a few cases C. jejuni showed increased resistance. These results indicate that increasing various stresses in a sequential pattern may, in some cases, reduce antibiotic resistance of C. jejuni isolates.
