Mechanical properties of a Gum-type Ti–Nb–Zr–Fe–O alloy

A new Gum-type alloy(Ti–Nb–Zr–Fe–O) in which Fe is used instead of Ta was subjected to a particular thermomechanical processing scheme to assess whether its mechanical characteristics(fine ?-grains with high strength and low modulus) render it suitable as a biomedical implant material. After a homogenization treatment followed by cold-rolling with 50% reduction, the specimens were subjected to one of three different recrystallization treatments at 1073, 1173, and 1273 K. The structural and mechanical properties of all of the treated specimens were analyzed. The mechanical characterization included tensile tests, microhardness determinations, and fractography by scanning electron microscopy. The possible deformation mechanisms were discussed using the Bo – Md diagram. By correlating all of the experimental results, we concluded that the most promising processing variant corresponds to recrystallization at 1073 K, which can provide suitable mechanical characteristics for this type of alloys: high yield and ultimate tensile strengths(1038 and 1083 MPa, respectively), a low modulus of elasticity(62 GPa), and fine crystalline grain size(approximately 50 ?m).

This paper aims at demonstrating the biocompatibility of recently developed 3D hydrogel scaffolds containing the same amount of collagen(COLL) and variable concentrations of sericin(SS) in order to find the most suitable formula for adipose tissue engineering(ATE) *** scaffolds were obtained by COLL crosslinking with glutaraldehyde followed by freeze-drying and, subsequently, seeded with 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Scanning electron microscopy studies revealed the scaffolds’ architecture and cellular colonization. Also, in vitro biocompatibility of the developed scaffolds was evaluated by LDH and MTT assays and Live/Dead analysis of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte populating these 3D *** best results in terms of cell survival and proliferation status were obtained in the case of the hybrid COLL scaffold containing 40% SS(COLL–SS4). Furthermore, the biological performance of the analyzed COLL-based hydrogels at 5- and 8- days post-seeding was found to decrease as follows: COLL–SS4 4 COLL–SS2 4 COLL 4 COLL–SS6. Consequently, our study highlights that hybrid scaffolds obtained by the addition of variable concentrations of SS to a constant COLL composition positively influences the behavior of 3T3-L1 cells with the exception of the COLL–SS6 matrix(60% SS). Altogether, the data obtained recommend SS as a component of COLL-based hydrogels providing them with features that may be useful in ATE applications.

BACKGROUND Celiac crisis(CC), a potentially life-threatening condition, is one of the rare clinical presentations of celiac disease(CD). Several cases have been documented in the literature, mostly in *** To perform a review of CC cases reported in adult CD *** A systematic search of the literature was conducted in two databases,PubMed/MEDLINE and EMBASE, using the term "celiac crisis" and its variant"coeliac crisis", from January 1970 onwards. Altogether, 29 articles reporting 42 biopsy-proven cases were found in the search. Here, we summarized the demographic, clinical characteristics, laboratory and diagnostic work-ups, and therapeutic management in these *** Among the 42 CD cases, the median age was 50 years(range 23-83), with a 2:1 female to male ratio. The majority of patients(88.1%) developed CC prior to CDdiagnosis, while the remaining were previously diagnosed CD cases reporting low adherence to a gluten-free diet(GFD). Clinically, patients presented with severe diarrhea(all cases), weight loss(about two thirds) and, in particular situations, with neurologic(6 cases) or cardiovascular(1 case) manifestations or bleeding diathesis(4 cases). One in four patients had a precipitating factor that could have triggered the CC(e.g. trauma, surgery, infections). Laboratory workup of patients revealed a severe malabsorptive state with metabolic acidosis,dehydration, hypoalbuminemia and anemia. The evolution of GFD was favorable in all cases except one, in whom death was reported due to refeeding *** Celiac crisis is a rare but severe and potentially fatal clinical feature of CD. A high index of suspicion is needed to recognize this clinical entity and to deliver proper therapy consisting of supportive care and, subsequently, GFD.

Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs) are chronic disorders of modern society, requiring management strategies aimed at prolonging an active life and establishing the exact etiology and *** idiopathic diseases have environmental, genetic,immunologic, inflammatory, and oxidative stress components. On the one hand, recent advances have shown that abnormal immune reactions against the microorganisms of the intestinal flora are responsible for the inflammation in genetically susceptible individuals. Introduction: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) may significantly affect quality of life and life expectancy in the accelerated and acute phases, especially if presented with health emergencies. Objective: The purpose of the study was the evaluation of the personalized management milestones in CML cases presented with ovarian apoplexy and the analysis of the international experience on health emergencies in this leukemia. Materials and Methods: An original, case-report study was performed. The diagnosis was confirmed by cytological, cytogenetic and molecular examinations of the peripheral blood and bone marrow at the comprehensive research cancer center— Institute of Oncology from Moldova. The real-time PCR was performed for quantitative detection of BCR-ABL gene p210 and p190 transcripts. The ECOG Scale and complete hematologic response (CR) estimated the short-term results. The ECOG performance status served as a measure of functional status. Its scores range from 0 to 5 and correlate with the level of patient functioning. CR is the disappearance of all detectable clinical and hematological signs of malignant neoplasm in response to treatment. CR span was assessed in months. The overall and relapse-free survivals asserted the long-term results of treatment, and were evaluated in months as a case. Results: CML may be manifested by life-threatening conditions, including infections and thrombotic events, splenic infarcts and ruptures, bleedings, etc. CML with the uncommon onset under the form of the ovarian apoplexy is described. The hematological CR was obtained under the treatment with imatinib mesylate. The molecular CR and the long-lasting overall survival (197.5 months) were achieved after the treatment with nilotinib. Under the treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, the patient did not experience the disease burden and side effects, and resumed her work, with a good life quality (ECOG score is 0). Introduction: Hematological malignancies (HM) are relatively frequent nosological entities within the structure of morbidity by malignant tumors, exhibiting a severe evolution, restrained prognosis and negative socio-economic impact in the advanced stages and phases. Objective: The objective of the study was to identify the epidemiological patterns, and to evaluate the epidemiological trends and disease burden issues of HM in the Republic of Moldova and worldwide. Materials and Methods: The following research methods were used: epidemiological, descriptive statistics, clinico-analytic. The diagnosis was proved in all cases by histopathological, cytological, cytogenetic, molecular and immunophenotyping examinations. The qualitative type researches were performed and enriched by the narrative synthesis of the data. From the specialized international bibliographic sources and official statistics concerning HM. The narrative review of the reference sources was fulfilled in the form of a synthesis. Results: The number of newly diagnosed and followed-up patients with HM at the Institute of Oncology in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 amounted respectively to 725, 802, 613, 628, 536 and 528, the incidence (new cases per 100,000 population) being 17.6, 19.5, 14.9, 17.7, 15.1 and 20.3. In 2021 HM constituted 6.2% of all newly-diagnosed cases with malignant tumors in the Republic of Moldova. In the same year Hodgkin lymphoma was diagnosed in 10.04% of cases, non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas—in 31.63%, multiple myeloma and plasma cells neoplasms—in 7.77%, lymphoid leukemias—in 17.42%, myeloid leukemias—in 12.31%, monocytic leukemias—in 0.95%, and other leukemias—in 16.29%. In 2019 the male rate was 51.5%, and the female rate—48.5%. Within 2 years males were 266 (50.4%), females—262 (49.6%). The age of 50 - 79 years prevailed in both genders (males—65%, females—72.5%).
