Translation and Validation of the Nepalese Version of Derriford Appearance Scale (DAS59)

Objectives: To establish a valid and reliable translated version of Derriford Appearance Scale (DAS59) for Nepali population. Methods: A standard translation-back-translation procedure was used followed by evaluation of semantic, conceptual and society equivalence by the committee and changes were made according to recommendations. This corrected version was pretested and a final version was developed. A validation study was performed using the final version on 424 patients including 212 patients with clinical appearance problems and similar number of young adults who had no concern for facial appearance. Reliability was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha value and test-retest correlation coefficient. Discriminate and convergent validity were assessed by comparison between clinical and normal population and correlation with Beck’s Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI) and General Health questionnaire (GHQ). Results: The results indicated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.98) and good test-retest reliability (0.91 for clinical population, 0.86 for normal population). The Discriminate validity was good with statistically significant differences between clinical and normal population. The convergent validity was confirmed by good correlation with other related psychometric tools. Conclusion: A valid and reliable Nepali DAS59 version was developed which can be used for research and clinical assessment of patients with appearance problems and concerns.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)stands out as the primary manifestation of age-related dementia,portraying a chronic neurodegenerative disorder distinguished by the accumulation of fibrillar amyloid-β(Aβ)plaques and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated ***,from a clinical standpoint,AD presents itself as a complex condition with a spectrum of dysfunctions rather than a singular pathological *** often-overlooked aspect of the disease is the presence of extensive cerebrovascular abnormalities,given that the majority of AD patients experience altered cerebral blood flow,damaged vasculature,increased microinfarcts and *** models of AD further support this observation,showing cerebrovascular dysfunction such as impaired cerebral blood flow and altered cerebrovascular reactivity(Tataryn et al.,2021;Gareau et al.,2023).

Multi-Scale Dilated Convolution Network for SPECT-MPI Cardiovascular Disease Classification with Adaptive Denoising and Attenuation Correction

Myocardial perfusion imaging(MPI),which uses single-photon emission computed tomography(SPECT),is a well-known estimating tool for medical diagnosis,employing the classification of images to show situations in coronary artery disease(CAD).The automatic classification of SPECT images for different techniques has achieved near-optimal accuracy when using convolutional neural networks(CNNs).This paper uses a SPECT classification framework with three steps:1)Image denoising,2)Attenuation correction,and 3)Image *** denoising is done by a U-Net architecture that ensures effective image *** correction is implemented by a convolution neural network model that can remove the attenuation that affects the feature extraction process of ***,a novel multi-scale diluted convolution(MSDC)network is *** merges the features extracted in different scales and makes the model learn the features more *** scales of filters with size 3×3 are used to extract *** three steps are compared with state-of-the-art *** proposed denoising architecture ensures a high-quality image with the highest peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR)value of *** proposed classification method is compared with the five different CNN models,and the proposed method ensures better classification with an accuracy of 96%,precision of 87%,sensitivity of 87%,specificity of 89%,and F1-score of 87%.To demonstrate the importance of preprocessing,the classification model was analyzed without denoising and attenuation correction.

Laser scanning can provide timely assessments of mine sites despite adverse challenges in the operational *** there are several published articles on laser scanning,there is a need to review them in the context of underground mining *** this end,a holistic review of laser scanning is presented including progress in 3D scanning systems,data capture/processing techniques and primary applications in underground *** scanning technology has advanced significantly in terms of mobility and mapping,but there are constraints in coherent and consistent data collection at certain mines due to feature deficiency,dynamics,and environmental influences such as dust and *** suggest that laser scanning has matured over the years for change detection,clearance measurements and structure mapping ***,there is scope for improvements in lithology identification,surface parameter measurements,logistic tracking and autonomous *** scanning has the potential to provide real-time solutions but the lack of infrastructure in underground mines for data transfer,geodetic networking and processing capacity remain limiting ***,laser scanners are becoming an integral part of mine automation thanks to their affordability,accuracy and mobility,which should support their widespread usage in years to come.

Cervical cancer:a tale from HPV infection to PARP inhibitors

Globally,cervical cancer(CxCa)ranks 4th common cancer among females and led to 569,847 incidences and 311,365 deaths in 2018.80%of CxCa cases occur due to persistent infection with a high-risk subtype of human papillomavirus(HPV-16 and 18).Smoking,high par-ity,and co-infection with type 2 herpes simplex or HIV are other known risk factors for *** histological subtypes are squamous(70%)and adenocarcinoma(25%).Presently,concur-rent radiation plus cisplatin(CDDP)-based chemotherapy is the standard treatment for CxCa ***,CDDP resistance and toxic side effects limit its efficacy,leading to a poorer response rate and an expected overall survival ranging from 10 to 17.5 *** drug uptake,increased DNA damage repair,increased CDDP inactivation,and overexpressed Bcl-2 or caspase inhibition,are primarily accountable mechanisms for CDDP resistance and improving CDDP’s efficacy remains the major ***(ADP-ribosyl)polymerase-1,an effective mediator of nucleotide excision repair pathway,is involved in DNA repair as well as maintaining genomic stability and is significantly expressed in malignant lymphomas,hepa-tocellular-,cervical-and colorectal carcinoma,which has been approved effective in mainte-nance therapy and may serve as an effective target to enhance CDDP sensitivity in ***,we summarize the etiology and epidemiology of and treatment for CxCa,the mechanism responsible for chemotherapy resistance,PARP inhibitor as a possible therapy for CxCa,and other possible chemotherapeutic options for CxCa treatment.

Novel biocompatible and brush copolymers have been developed for cancer treatment using its controlled drug-release *** graft on linear dextrin has been synthesized to control the hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance for regulated drug *** properties of the graft copolymers have been tuned through graft *** prepared grafts are thermally stable and mechanically *** injectable hydrogel has been developed by embedding the drug-loaded brush copolymers in methyl cellulose to better control the release for a prolonged period,importantly by keeping the drug release at a constant *** studies indicate the biocompatible nature of the brush copolymers whose controlled and slow release of drug exhibit significant cytotoxic effects on cancer *** of drug tagged contrast agent indicates greater transport of biologically active material inside cell as observed through cellular uptake *** vivo studies on melanoma mice exhibit the real efficacy of the controlled drug release from the injectable hydrogel with significant melanoma suppression without any side effects as opposed to severe toxic effects observed in conventional *** application method of drug-loaded hydrogel just beneath the tumor makes this system incredibly effective through ***,brush copolymer injectable hydrogel is a promising vehicle for control release of drug for cancer treatment in future.

Enhanced crustal and intermediate seismicity in the Hindu Kush-Pamir region revealed by attentive deep learning model

The Hindu Kush-Pamir region(HKPR)is characterized by complex ongoing deformation,unique slab geometry,and intermediate seismic *** availability of extensive seismological data in recent decades has prompted the use of deep learning algorithms to extract valuable *** this study,we present a fully automated approach for augmenting earthquake catalogue within the *** method leverages an attention mechanism-based deep learning architecture to simultaneously detect events,perform phase picking,and estimate *** applied this model to a ten-month dataset(January 2013-October 2013)from 83 stations in the *** a robust criterion to evaluate the model’s probabilities,we associated phases at different stations and pinpointed earthquake locations in the *** results demonstrate a significant enhancement,revealing nearly four and a half times more earthquakes than previously documented in the International Seismological Center(ISC)catalogue.A notable portion of these newly detected events falls within the category of very low-magnitude earthquakes(<3),which were absent in the ISC ***,our spatiotemporal analysis reveals a concentration of crustal seismicity along poorly mapped neotectonic north and northeast-oriented faults in the western Pamir,as well as the Vakhsh Thrust System and the Darvaz Karakul *** findings underscore potential sources of future seismic ***,our expanded earthquake catalogue facilitates a deeper understanding of the interplay between crustal and intermediate seismic activity in the HKPR,shedding light on the deformation and active faulting resulting from Eurasian-Indian plate interactions.
