Numerical simulation and experimental validation of arc welding of DMR-249A steel

The thermo-mechanical attributes of DMR-249 A steel weld joints manufactured by shielded metal arc welding(SMAW) and activated gas tungsten arc welding(A-GTAW) processes were studied using Finite Element Model(FEM) simulation. The thermal gradients and residual stresses were analyzed with SYSWELD software using double ellipsoidal heat source distribution model. The numerically estimated temperature distribution was validated with online temperature measurements using thermocouples. The predicted residual stresses profile across the weld joints was compared with the values experimentally measured using non-destructive techniques. The measured and predicted thermal cycles and residual stress profile was observed to be comparable. The residual stress developed in double sided A-GTAW joint were marginally higher in comparison to five pass SMAW joint due to phase transformation associated with high heat input per weld pass for A-GTAW process. The present investigations suggest the applicability of numerical modeling as an effective approach for predicting the thermo-mechanical properties influenced by welding techniques for DMR-249 A steel weld joints. The tensile, impact and micro-hardness tests were carried to compare the *** benefits of high productivity and savings of labor and cost associated with A-GTAW compared to SMAW process, the minor variation in residual stress build up of A-GTAW joint can be neglected to develop A-GTAW as qualified alternative welding technique for DMR-249 A steel.? 2016 China Ordnance Society. Factors influencing IOP changes in postmenopausal women

Objective:Intraocular pressure(IOP)is essential in maintaining normal function of the *** IOP is associated with *** physiological factors,including age and hormones,can cause variation in *** study was designed to investigate IOP changes in postmenopausal women and the associated factors,which included sex hormones and body mass index(BMI).Methods:This was a cross-sectional ***-eight women were recruited:49 premenopausal women and 49 postmenopausal *** between the two groups were *** influence of estradiol,progesterone,testosterone,and BMI on IOP was analyzed by a multivariate method.P<0.05 was considered ***:The age of the premenopausal group was 47.14±3.93 years and that of the postmenopausal group was 52.10±3.04 *** other factors in both groups,which included BMI,blood pressure,and central cornea thickness,were not significantly *** mean IOP in the postmenopausal group was significantly higher than the mean IOP in the premenopausal group(15.26±2.96 mm Hg vs.14.07±2.65 mm Hg,P=0.04).BMI had a weak positive correlation with IOP in premenopausal women(r=0.31,P=0.03).Estradiol was less likely to influence IOP changes in the postmenopausal group as compared with the premenopausal group(B=−0.021,P=0.002).IOP was not significantly related to progesterone and testosterone ***:Menopausal status has a significant effect on IOP,with a significant increase in IOP seen in postmenopausal women as shown by our *** was shown to be a protective factor in reducing IOP among postmenopausal *** understanding of the influence of postmenopausal status and sex hormones on IOP,glaucoma management may be improved and the target group for disease screening may be more specific.

A New Species of the Genus Tylototriton(Amphibia: Urodela: Salamandridae) from Eastern Himalaya

A new species of the genus Tylototriton is described from eastern Himalaya based on molecular and morphological comparisons. The new species is diagnosable from the closely-related species by having light brown colouration in dorsal region in life, flat and blunt snout, greatly separated dorsolateral bony ridges on head and straightthick tailfin. In addition to head morphology, the new species is also morphologically distinguishable from its closelyrelated species Tylototriton shanorum by having 16 dorsal warts and average smaller Snout Vent Length（SVL）.

Learning the right channel in multimodal imaging: automated experiment in piezoresponse force microscopy

We report the development and experimental implementation of the automated experiment workflows for the identification of thebest predictive channel for a phenomenon of interest in spectroscopic measurements. The approach is based on the combinationof ensembled deep kernel learning for probabilistic predictions and a basic reinforcement learning policy for channel selection. Itallows the identification of which of the available observational channels, sampled sequentially, are most predictive of selectedbehaviors, and hence have the strongest correlations. We implement this approach for multimodal imaging in piezoresponse forcemicroscopy (PFM), with the behaviors of interest manifesting in piezoresponse spectroscopy. We illustrate the best predictivechannel for polarization-voltage hysteresis loop and frequency-voltage hysteresis loop areas is amplitude in the model samples. Thesame workflow and code are applicable for any multimodal imaging and local characterization methods.

Objective:To evaluate the anti-inflammatory potential of aqueous extract of Pterocarpus santalinus *** using molecular docking and in vivo ***:An aqueous extract of Pterocarpus santalinus heartwood was prepared using a Soxhlet *** in the extract were tentatively identified using high-resolution mass *** docking experiments were carried out to evaluate the binding affinity of selected compounds,phloridzin to cyclooxygenase-1(COX-1),cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2),prostaglandin E synthase-1(PGES-1)and 5-lipoxygenase(5-LOX).Anti-inflammatory potential was evaluated by carageenan induced paw edema model in ***:The presence of major component phloridzin along with quercetin,parthenin,ginkgolide B,picrotoxinin,usnic acid,octopine,and epigallocatechin was detected in the *** docking study showed that phloridzin inhibited COX-1,COX-2,PGES-1 and 5-LOX with more affinity than ibuprofen and *** santalinus heartwood extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg BW showed significant reduction in carageenan-induced hind paw edema in a dose-dependent manner,but the effect was slow when compared with the standard ibuprofen(30 mg/kg p.o.).Conclusions:The study indicated that after clinical trials,the aqueous extract of Pterocarpus santalinus heartwood can be effectively used in phytotherapy to treat inflammation.

A solution to unit commitment problem using invasive weed optimization algorithm

Unit commitment （UC） is one of the most important aspect of power generation in the world today. Though, there is no method to find the exact optimized solution, there exists several meta-heuristic algorithms to determine the close to exact solution. This paper proposes a novel solution to effectively determine UC and generation cost using the technique of invasive weed optimization （IWO）. The existing technique distributes the load demand among all the generating units. The method proposed here utilizes the output of UC obtained by using the Lagrangian relaxation （LR） method and calculates the required generation from only the plants that are ON discarding the OFF generator units and thereby giving a faster and more accurate response. Moreover, the results show the comparison between the LR-particle swarm optimization （PSO） and LR-IWO, and prove that the cost of generation for a 4 unit, 8 hour schedule is much less in the case of IWO when compared to PSO.
