Estimation of evapotranspiration(ET) for mountain ecosystem is of absolute importance since it serves as an important component in balancing the hydrologic *** present study evaluates the performance of original and location specific calibrated Hargreaves equation(HARG) with the estimates of Food and Agricultural Organization(FAO)Penman Monteith(PM) method for higher altitudes in East Sikkim,*** results show that the uncalibrated HARG model underestimates ET_0 by 0.35 mm day^(-1) whereas the results are significantly improved by regional calibration of the *** addition,this paper also presents the variability in the trajectory associated with the climatic variables with the changing climate in the study *** Mann-Kendall(MK) test was used to investigate and understand the mean monthly trendof eight climatic parameters including reference evapotranspiration(ET_0) for the period of *** of ET_0 was estimated for the calculations done by FAO PM *** outcomes of the trend analysis show significant increasing(p ≤ 0.05) trend represented by higher Z-values,through MK test,for net radiation(Rn),maximum temperature(Tmax) and minimum temperature(Tmin),especially in the first months of the ***,significant(0.01 ≥ p ≤0.05) decreasing trend in vapor pressure deficit(VPD)and precipitation(P) is observed throughout the *** trend in sunshine duration,VPD and ET_0 is found in spring(March- May) and monsoon(June –November) *** result displays significant(0.01≤ p ≤ 0.05) decreasing ET_0 trend between(June- December) except in July,exhibiting the positive relation with VPD followed by sunshine duration at the ***,the study emphasizes the importance of trend analysis of ET_0 and other climaticvariables for efficient planning and managing the agricultural practices,in identifying the changes in the meteorological parameters and to accurately assess the hydrologic water balance of the hilly regions.

Lysimeter based crop coefficients for estimation of crop evapotranspiration of black gram (Vigna Mungo L.) in sub-humid region

Black gram is dominant pulse crop of the *** coefficient is an important parameter,which needs to be determined for accurate estimates of the crop water *** coefficient,the ratio of potential crop evapotranspiration to reference evapotranspiration,is an important parameter in irrigation planning and ***,this information is not available for many important crops in the study region.A study was undertaken to develop crop coefficients for black gram crop,and a comparison is made of single and dual crop coefficient approaches to estimate actual crop evapotranspiration under the climatic conditions of Udaipur,*** coefficient was developed from daily measured black gram evapotranspiration(ETBG)data by electronic weighing lysimeter and reference evapotranspiration calculated using standard Penman-Monteith *** measured values of crop coefficient for the crop were 0.48,1.18 and 0.33 during initial,mid-season and late-season *** evaluation of different approaches showed that daily ETBG estimate based on dual crop coefficient method have been found best(SE=0.40,r=0.96).Furthermore,a quadratic curve(second-order polynomial)method were fitted well(SE=0.47,r=0.94)to predict crop coefficient values as function of days after sowing(DAS).These locally developed and evaluated values can be used for proper irrigation planning in water scarcity area of Udaipur and other areas with similar agro-ecological conditions.

Evaluation of reference evapotranspiration methods for the northeastern region of India

The study planed to identify a suitable alternative to the FAO 56 Penman-Monteith(FAO56PM)equation for calculating reference evapotranspiration(ET_(0))from chosen te mperature and radiation based models utilizing monthly meteorological data from 30 destinations in diverse agro-ecologial regions of the Northeast(NE)India ie,Assam Bengal Plain(ABP),eastern Himalaya(EH),and the northeastern hilly(NEH)***-based IRMAK3 most appropriate in the ABP(weighted root mean square deviation,WRMSD=0.17 mm d^(-1),r^(2)=0.98,for Nagrakata),and TURC model being in the first three rank of most of the sites,with the lowest error and highest correlation in NEH(WRMSD=0.10 mm d^(-1),r^(2)=0.92,for Shillong),and EH(WRMSD=0.23 mm d^(-1),r^(2)=-0.95,for Gangtok).Findings reveal that IRMAK3 and TURC models performed equally well and were observed to be the best among selected modets for the majority of stations followed by FAO24 Blaney-Criddle(FAO24BC),and 1957MAKK Pair-wise regession equations were developed for preferred FAO56PM ET_(0) estimates to ET_(0) estimates by alternative ***-correlation of eighteen chose methods demonstrated that the five equations(*** radiation-and one temperature-based)performed eceptionally well when contrasted with the FAO56PM model,thus being advised for assessing ET_(0)。under limiting data conditions as have yielded a better estimate of ET_(0) with a small error.

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Soil Moisture

The characterization of temporal and spatial variability of soil moisture is highly relevant for understanding the many hydrological processes, to model the processes better and to apply them to conservation planning. Considerable variability in space and time coupled with inadequate and uneven distribution of irrigation water results in uneven yield in an area Spatial and temporal variability highly affect the heterogeneity of soil water, solute transport and leaching of chemicals to ground water. Spatial variability of soil moisture helps in mapping soil properties across the field and variability in irrigation requirement. While the temporal variability of water content and infiltration helps in irrigation management, the temporal correlation structure helps in forecasting next irrigation. Kriging is a geostatistical technique for interpolation that takes into account the spatial auto-correlation of a variable to produce the best linear unbiased estimate. The same has been used for data interpolation for the C. T. A. E. Udaipur India. These interpolated data were plotted against distance to show variability between the krigged value and observed value. The range of krigged soil moisture values was smaller than the observed one. The goal of this study was to map layer-wise soil moisture up to 60 cm depth which is useful for irrigation planning.

Understanding poromechanical response of a biogenic coalbed methane reservoir

Biogenic coalbed methane(BCBM)reservoirs aim to produce methane from in situ coal deposits following microbial conversion of *** of BCBM reservoirs requires economic methane production within an acceptable *** work reported here quantifies the findings of previously published qualitative work,where it was found that bioconversion induces strains in the pore,matrix and bulk *** imaging and dynamic strain monitoring techniques,the bioconversion induced strain is quantified *** understand the effect of these strains from a reservoir geomechanics perspective,a corresponding poromechanical model is ***,findings of imaging experiments are validated using core-flooding flow ***,expected field-scale behavior of the permeability response of a BCBM operation is modeled and *** results of the study indicated that,for Illinois coals,bioconversion induced strains result in a decrease in fracture porosity,resulting in a detrimental permeability drop in excess of 60%during bioconversion,which festers itself exponentially throughout its producing *** indicate that reservoirs with high initial permeability that will support higher Darcian flowrates,would be better suited for coal bioconversion,thereby providing a site-selection criteria for BCBM operations.

Stochastic Modelling of Actual Black Gram Evapotranspiration

The study was undertaken to develop and evaluate evapotranspiration model for black gram (Vigna Mungo L.) crop under climatic conditions of Udaipur, India. Pan evaporation data for the duration of twenty three years (1978-2001) and measured black gram evapotranspiration data by electronic lysimeter for duration of kharif season of 2001 were used for analysis. Black gram is an important crop of Udaipur region. No sys-tematic study on modelling of black gram evapotranspiration was conducted in past under above said cli-matic conditions. Therefore, stochastic model was developed for the estimation of daily black gram evapotranspiration using 24 years data. Validation of the developed models was done by the comparison of the estimated values with the measured values. The developed stochastic model for black gram evapotran-spiration was found to predict the daily black gram evapotranspiration very accurately.

Investigating the Evolution of Amati Parameters with Redshift

Gamma-ray bursts(GRBs) are among the brightest objects in the Universe and, hence, can be observed up to a very high redshift. Properly calibrated empirical correlations between intensity and spectral correlations of GRBs can be used to estimate the cosmological parameters. However, the possibility of the evolution of GRBs with redshift is a long-standing puzzle. In this work, we used 162 long-duration GRBs to determine whether GRBs below and above a certain redshift have different properties. The GRBs are split into two groups, and we fit the Amati relation for each group separately. Our findings demonstrate that estimations of the Amati parameters for the two groups are substantially dissimilar. We perform simulations to investigate whether the selection effects could cause the difference. Our analysis shows that the differences may be either intrinsic or due to systematic errors in the data, and the selection effects are not their true origin. However, in-depth analysis with a new data set comprised of 119 long GRBs shows that intrinsic scatter may partly be responsible for such effects.
