AIM To investigate the main current etiologies of cirrhosis in *** We performed a cross-sectional retrospective multicenter study that included eight hospitals in different areas of Mexico. These hospitals provide health care to people of diverse social classes. The inclusion criteria were a histological, clinical, biochemical, endoscopic, or imaging diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. Data were obtained during a 5-year period(January 2012-December 2017). RESULTS A total of 1210 patients were included. The mean age was 62.5 years(SD = 12.1), and the percentages of men and women were similar(52.0% vs 48.0%). The most frequent causes of liver cirrhosis were hepatitis C virus(HCV)(36.2%), alcoholic liver disease(ALD)(31.2%), and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(23.2%), and the least frequent were hepatitis B virus(1.1%), autoimmune disorders(7.3%), and other conditions(1.0%).COnCLUSIOn HCV and ALD are the most frequent causes of cirrhosis in Mexico. However, we note that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(nAFLD) as an etiology of cirrhosis increased by 100% compared with the rate noted previously. We conclude that nAFLD will soon become one of the most frequent etiologies of liver cirrhosis in Mexico.

This study aims to draw basic and global concepts for the physical improvement of slum riverside settlements as a fundamental step toward formalizing and securing ***,this work specifies attempts to arrange an upgrading plan derived from the basic strategy for our target location in the traditional settlement of Kuin Utara without failing to recognize its uniqueness and cultural *** paper discloses that the basic concept for physical upgrading in a slum settlement consists of three elements:(1)arranging street networks as fundamental systems that structure the settlement,(2)constructing public utility systems that are essential for livelihoods,and(3)providing common space and amenities as"external organs”that form identities and reveal the physical beauty of the *** proposed infrastructures shall be directed to protect the local cultures and sociocultural activities of the *** plan should also be adjusted with respect to the economic constraints in developing ***,the improvement strategy for poor housings shall not orientate to modernization merely for beautification without considering the basic aspect:maintaining the dweller’s livelihood.

The disappearance of vernacutar buitdings is a common phenomenon worldwide and in Indonesia. The Banjarese house, a type of Indonesian vernacutar architecture, is a typicat riverside dwetling that shows the strong relationship between the river and the inhabitants. In view of the number of Banjarese houses facing degradation as a riverside type of vernacutar architecture, a study is necessary. The characteristics of the inhabitants must be considered when observing the condition of the remaining houses. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the influence of inhabitant background on the physicat changes of Banjarese houses for future revitatization. A research was conducted in the embryo of Banjarmasin atong the Kuin riverside setttement in Kuin Utara sub-district through a door-to-door survey with a questionnaire. The exploration indicates the following：（1） the original form of art remaining houses has been attered, （2） most of the inhabitants are ctassified as a tow-income society, （3） the different characteristics of the present inhabitants change the physicat condition of houses, （4） the retationship of the current house condition to the socio-cutture and economy of the inhabitants prays a prominent rote in revitatizing Banjarese houses as a vatuabte asset.

AIM To determine the incidence and associated factors of new-onset diabetes after transplantation(nODAT) in a Portuguese central hospital. METHODS This single-center retrospective study involved consecutive adult nondiabetic transplant recipients, who had undergone kidney transplantation between January 2012 and March 2016. nODAT was diagnosed according to the criteria of the American Diabetes Association. Data were collected from an institutional database of the nephrology and Kidney Transplantation Department(Santa Maria Hospital, Lisbon, Portugal) and augmented with data of laboratorial parameters collected from the corresponding patient electronic medical records. Exclusion criteria were preexisting diabetes mellitus, missing information and follow-up period of less than 12 mo. Data on demographic and clinical characteristics as well as anthropometric and laboratorial parameters were also collected. Patients were divided into two groups: With and without nODAT-for statistical *** A total of 156 patients received kidney transplantduring the study period, 125 of who were included in our analysis. nODAT was identified in 27.2% of the patients(n = 34; 53% female; mean age: 49.5 ± 10.8 years; median follow-up: 36.4 ± 2.5 mo). The incidence in the first year was 24.8%. The median time to diagnosis was 3.68 ± 5.7 mo after transplantation, and 76.5% of the patients developed nODAT in the first 3 mo. In the group that did not develop nODAT(n = 91), 47% were female, with mean age of 46.4 ± 13.5 years and median follow-up of 35.5 ± 1.6 mo. In the nODAT group, the pretransplant fasting plasma glucose(FPG) levels were significantly higher [101(96.1-105.7) mg/d L vs 92(91.4-95.8) mg/d L, P = 0.007] and pretransplant impaired fasting glucose(IFG) was significantly more frequent(51.5% vs 27.7%, P = 0.01). Higher pretransplant FPG levels and pretransplant IFG were found to be predictive risk factors for nODAT development [odds ratio(OR): 1.059, P = 0.003; OR: 2.77

Electromagnetic ion cyclotron(EMIC)waves are widely believed to play an important role in influencing the radiation belt and ring current *** studies have investigated the effects or characteristics of EMIC waves by assuming their left-handed ***,recent studies have found that the reversal of polarization,which occurs at higher latitudes along the wave propagation path,can change the wave-induced pitch angle diffusion *** such a polarization reversal can influence the global ring current dynamics remains *** this study,we investigate the ring current dynamics and proton precipitation loss in association with polarization-reversed EMIC waves by using the ring current-atmosphere interactions model(ram).The results indicate that the polarization reversal of H-band EMIC waves can truly decrease the scattering rates of protons of 10 to 50 keV or>100 keV in comparison with the scenario in which the EMIC waves are considered purely left-handed ***,the global ring current intensity and proton precipitation may be slightly affected by the polarization reversal,especially during prestorm time and the recovery phase,but the effects are not large during the main *** is probably because the H-band EMIC waves contribute to the proton scattering loss primarily at En energy range that is not strongly affected by the polarization reversal.
