Observation of free oscillations after the 2010 Chile and 2011 Japan earthquakes by superconducting gravimeter in Kutch,Gujarat,India

In this paper,we present observations of free oscillations of the Earth after major earthquakes in Chile(February 27,2010,Mw8.8)and Japan(March 11,2011,Mw9.1)using data from the dual-sphere superconducting gravimeter(SG-055),installed at Badargadh(23°0.47 N,70°0.62 E),Kutch,Gujarat,India in March *** see the noise characteristics,we calculated the power spectral density of the gravity time series of 5 quiet days in the frequency band 0.05-20 mHz using the new low noise model(NLNM)as a *** compared the noise level of the Badargadh site to other SG sites around the *** shows that the Badargadh SG is in a low noise *** find that the noise increases at frequencies below 1 *** a characteristic is also observed in Djougou(Afrique,Benin)and Strasbourg(France).Using theoretical tides for Gujarat,we estimated a scale factor of about-814 nm/s~2/V for Gravl(lowersphere)and about-775 nm/s~2/V for Grav2(upper-sphere).We corrected the influence of atmospheric pressure from the one-second gravity data before switching to the frequency *** extracted a total of 53 Earth’s Free Oscillations(EFO)modes during the earthquake in Japan and about 47 EFO modes during the earthquake in *** are able to extract the lowest0S2spheroidal mode(0.30945 mHz or54 min)and0S0radial mode(0.81439 mHz or 20 min).The longer time series shows individual0S2singlets and0S3(0.46855 mHz)singlets due to the Coriolis splitting *** cross-referenced the frequencies of these modes using the PREM model and previous global *** correlation coefficient between the observed and the PREM model for these two events are 0.999 for Japan earthquake and 0.993 for Chile *** validates the quality of the data useful for low-frequency studies in *** also calculated the relative deviations of our observed fundamental modes with previously determined observed and theoretical *** found that the relative deviations of our observed free oscillations

A wireless sensor network is one of the networks that is highly demanding by various real-timenetworking applications nowadays. A huge amount of sensor nodes is deployed in the networkrandomly and distributed. Most of the applications using wireless sensor network (WSN) aresurveillance monitoring applications like a forest, home, healthcare, environment, and remotemonitoring systems. Based on the application usage, the type of sensor, a number of sensornodes are deployed in such a manner where the sensors can be used effectively. But the sensornodes are restricted in the battery and sensing region. Thus, the battery of the sensor nodesis decreased based on the nodes’ function. The energy level of the sensor nodes highly affectsthe network lifetime. Improving the energy efficiency in WSN is one of the most important challengingtasks. Most of the earlier research works have proposed various methods, techniques,and routing protocols, but they are application dependent and as a common method. So, thispaper is motivated to propose a Multi-Conditional Network Analysis (MCNA) framework for savingthe energy level of the sensor nodes by reducing energy consumption. TheMCNAframeworkinvolves two different clustering processes with cluster head selection, choosing the best nodesbased on the signal strength, and the best route for data transmission. The data transmissionis done by cluster based on source-destination based. The simulation results proved that theproposed MCNA framework outperforms the other existing methods.

Electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is one of the crucial reactions for converting renewable electricity into chemical fuel in the form of *** date,there is still a challenge in designing ideal cost-effective OER catalysts with excellent activity and robust *** hybridization of transition metal oxides and carbonaceous materials is one of the most effective and promising strategies to develop high-performance ***,this work synthesized hybrids of NiFe_2 O_4 spinel materials with two-dimensional(2D)graphene oxide and one-dimensional(1 D)carbon nanotubes using a facile solvothermal *** activities of NiFe_(2)O_(4) with 2 D graphene oxide toward OER were realized to be superior even to the 1 D carbon nanotube-based electro catalyst in terms of overpotential to reach a current density of10 mA/cm^(2) as well as Tafel *** NiFe_(2)O_(4) with 2 D graphene oxide hybrid exhibits good stability with an overpotential of 327 mV at a current density of 10 mA/cm^(2) and a Tafel slope of 103 mV/*** high performance of NiFe_(2)O_(4) with 2 D graphene oxide is mainly attributed to its unique morphology,more exposed active sites,and a porous structure with a high surface ***,an approach of hybridizing a metal oxide with a carbonaceous material offers an attractive platform for developing an efficient electrocatalyst for water electrochemistry applications.

In situ deposited cobalt-magnesium selenates as an advanced electrode for electrochemical energy storage

Currently,bimetallic selenates have attracted much attention as a prominent electrode composite material for supercapacitors owing to their higher redox chemistry and superior electrical ***,we synthesized cobalt-magnesium selenates (CoSeO3-Mg Se O4,CMS) via a facile hydrothermal process,followed by *** first,cobalt-magnesium oxide (Co2.32Mg0.68O4,CMO) was in situ prepared by a one-pot hydrothermal *** investigation on the morphological change was performed by synthesizing the same CMO samples at different growth times by keeping the temperature *** CMO electrode designed for 8 h of growth time (CMO-8 h)with an attractive morphology showed a higher areal capacity of 101.7μAh cm-2(at 3 m A cm-2) than the other CMO electrodes prepared for 6 and 10 *** exalted performance was achieved by the selenization of the CMO-8 h sample to form the CMS *** 3 m A cm-2,the resulted CMS exhibited nearly three times higher capacity,i.e.,385.4μAh cm-2,than the CMO-8 h ***,an asymmetric cell fabricated with CMS as a positive electrode also revealed good energy storage *** the applied voltage between 0 and 1.5 V,the asymmetric cell demonstrated maximum energy density of 0.159 m Wh cm-2(18.6 Wh kg-1) and maximum power density of 18.47 m W cm-2(1938 W kg-1),***,novel magnesium-based metal selenates can act as an efficient electrode for energy storage.

Influence of dynamic soil-pile raft-structure interaction:an experimental approach

Traditionally seismic design of structures supported on piled raft foundation is performed by considering fixed base conditions, while the pile head is also considered to be fixed for the design of the pile foundation. Major drawback of this assumption is that it cannot capture soil-foundation-structure interaction due to flexibility of soil or the inertial interaction involving heavy foundation masses. Previous studies on this subject addressed mainly the intricacy in modelling of dynamic soil structure interaction (DSSI) but not the implication of such interaction on the distribution of forces at various elements of the pile foundation and supported structure. A recent numerical study by the authors showed significant change in response at different elements of the piled raft supported structure when DSSI effects are considered. The present study is a limited attempt in this direction, and it examines such observations through shake table tests. The effect of DSSI is examined by comparing dynamic responses from fixed base scaled down model structures and the overall systems. This study indicates the possibility of significant underestimation in design forces for both the column and pile if designed under fixed base assumption. Such underestimation in the design forces may have serious implication in the design of a foundation or structural element.

Terminalia arjuna bark extract attenuates picrotoxin-induced behavioral changes by activation of serotonergic,dopaminergic,GABAergic and antioxidant systems

Stress and emotion are associated with several illnesses from headaches to heart diseases and immune deficiencies to central nervous system. Terminalia arjuna has been referred as traditional Indian medicine for several ailments. The present study aimed to elucidate the effect of T. arjuna bark extract(TA) against picrotoxin-induced anxiety. Forty two male Balb/c mice were randomly divided into six experimental groups(n = 7): control, diazepam(1.5 mg·kg^(–1)), picrotoxin(1 mg·kg^(–1)) and three TA treatemt groups(25, 50, and 100 mg/kg). Behavioral paradigms and PCR studies were performed to determine the effect of TA against picrotoxin-induced anxiety. The results showed that TA supplementation increased locomotion towards open arm(EPM) and illuminated area(light-dark box test), and increased rearing frequency(open field test) in a dose dependent manner, compared to picrotoxin(P < 0.05). Furthermore, TA increased number of licks and shocks in Vogel's conflict. PCR studies showed an up-regulation of several genes, such as BDNF, IP_3, D_2L, CREB, GABAA, SOD, GPx, and GR in TA administered groups. In conclusion, alcoholic extract of TA bark showed protective activity against picrotoxin in mice by modulation of genes related to synaptic plasticity, neurotransmitters, and antioxidant enzymes.
