Economic evaluation of the hepatitis C elimination strategy in Greece in the era of affordable direct-acting antivirals

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is a leading cause of worldwide liver-related morbidity and mortality. The World Health Organization released an integrated strategy targeting HCV-elimination by 2030. This study aims to estimate the required interventions to achieve elimination using updated information for direct-acting antiviral(DAA) treatment coverage, to compute the total costs(including indirect/societal costs) of the strategy and to identify whether the elimination strategy is cost-effective/cost-saving in *** To estimate the required interventions and subsequent costs to achieve HCV elimination in *** A previously validated mathematical model was adapted to the Greek HCVinfected population to compare the outcomes of DAA treatment without the additional implementation of awareness or screening campaigns versus an HCV elimination strategy, which includes a sufficient number of treated patients. We estimated the total costs(direct and indirect costs), the disability-adjusted life years and the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio using two different price *** Without the implementation of awareness or screening campaigns,approximately 20000 patients would be diagnosed and treated with DAAs by2030. This strategy would result in a 19.6% increase in HCV-related mortality in2030 compared to 2015. To achieve the elimination goal, 90000 patients need to be treated by 2030. Under the elimination scenario, viremic cases would decrease by78.8% in 2030 compared to 2015. The cumulative direct costs to eliminate the disease would range from 2.1-2.3 billion euros(€) by 2030, while the indirect costs would be €1.1 billion. Incidence of ulcerative colitis in Central Greece: A prospective study

AIM: To study the incidence of ulcerative colitis UC in the prefecture of Trikala, Central Greece. METHODS: A prospective and population based epidemiological study of UC from 1990 to the end of 1994 was conducted. Trikala is a semirural prefecture of Central Greece with a population of 138 946 (census 1991). Three gastroenterologists (one hospital based, two private doctors) of the prefecture participated in this study. RESULTS: During the study period, 66 new historically verified cases of UC were recorded. The mean annual incidence of the disease in 1990-1994 was 11.2 per 105 inhabitants (95%CI: 8.7-14.3). There was no difference between men and women (annual incidence: 10.5 and 12.0 per 105 inhabitants respectively), either among urban, semirural or rural populations (annual incidence: 11.7, 17.1 and 9,9 per 105 inhabitants respectively). The majority (56%) of the patients never smoked and a quarter were ex-smokers. About a half of all cases had proctitis. CONCLUSION: UC is common in Central Greece and its incidence is similar to that in North-Western European countries.

Magn-eli,a fascinating sub-stoichiometric titanium oxide phase that contains oxygen vacancies of TiO_(2),is proposed as a potential photo-electrode for photocatalysis due to its high conductivity and photoelectric conversion *** this work,partially reduced porous TiO_(2) ceramics with a graded reduction profile and an aligned pore structure were prepared by carbo-thermal reduction of freeze-cast TiO_(2) with a range of porosities from 10 to 30 vol.%.AC conductivity evaluation revealed that the oxygen vacancies that exist in Magn-eli lead to a relatively high AC conductivity of~10 S/m at 1 kHz,as compared to that of the stoichiometric porous TiO_(2).A maximum photocurrent density and incident photon-to-current efficiency(IPCE)of 9.14 mA/cm^(2) and 40.52%respectively were achieved from the gradient porous Magn-eli with a porosity of 30 vol.%.

Background:Increasing demand for high-value fish species and pressure on forage fish is challenging aquaculture to ensure sustainable growth by replacing protein sources in aquafeeds with plant and terrestrial animal proteins,without compromising the economic value and quality of the final fish *** the present study,the effects of a plant protein-based diet(CV),two plant-based diets in which graded amounts of plan protein mixtures were replaced with Hermetia illucens meal alone(VH10)or in combination with poultry by-product meal(PBM)(VH10P30),a fishmeal(FM)diet(CF)and an FM diet supplemented with ***(FH10)on growth performance,gut health and homeostasis of farmed subadult European seabass were tested and ***:Fish fed the VH10 and VH10P30 diets showed the highest specific growth rates and lowest feed conversion ratios among the tested ***,the best preservation of PI morphology was observed in fish fed the CF or FH10 diets,while fish fed the CV diet exhibited significant degenerative changes in the proximal and distal ***,PBM supplementation mitigated these effects and significantly improved all gut morphometric parameters in the VH10P30 *** substitution of the plant mixture with insect meal alone or PBM also induced most BBM genes and activated BBM enzymes,suggesting a beneficial effect on intestinal digestive/absorption *** intestinal microbiota,fish fed diets containing *** meal(FH10,VH10,VH10P30)had the highest richness of bacterial communities and abundance of beneficial genera such as Lactobacillus and *** the other hand,fish fed CV had the highest microbial diversity but lost a significant component of fish intestinal microbiota,the phylum ***,skin pigmentation most similar to that of farmed or even wild seabass was also observed in the fish groups fed CF,FH10 or ***:Plant-based diets supplemented with PBM and *** pupae meal h
