Physical and chemical changes of rapeseed meal proteins during toasting and their effects on in vitro digestib.lity

b.ckground： Toasting during the production of rapeseed meal（RSM） decreases ileal crude protein（CP） and amino acid（AA） digestib.lity. The mechanisms that determine the decrease in digestib.lity have not b.en fully elucidated. A high protein quality, low-denatured, RSM was produced and toasted up to 120 min, with samples taken every 20 min. The aim of this study was to characterize secondary structure and chemical changes of proteins and glucosinolates occurring during toasting of RSM and the effects on its in vitro CP ***： The decrease in protein solub.lity and the increase of intermolecular β-sheets with increasing toasting time were indications of protein aggregation. The contents of NDF and ADIN increased with increasing toasting *** of arginine, lysine and O-methylisourea reactive lysine（OMIU-RL） linearly decreased with increasing toasting time, with a larger decrease of OMIU-RL than lysine. First-order reactions calculated from the measured parameters show that glucosinolates were degraded faster than lysine, OMIU-RL and arginine and that physical changes to proteins seem to occur b.fore chemical changes during toasting. Despite the drastic physical and chemical changes noticed on the proteins, the coefficient of in vitro CP digestib.lity ranged from 0.776 to 0.750 and there were no effects on the extent of protein hydrolysis after 120 min. In contrast, the rate of protein hydrolysis linearly decreased with increasing toasting time, which was largely correlated to the decrease in protein solub.lity, lysine and OMIU-RL ob.erved. Rate of protein hydrolysis was more than 2-fold higher for the untoasted RSM compared to the 120 min toasted ***： Increasing the toasting time for the production of RSM causes physical and chemical changes to the proteins that decrease the rate of protein hydrolysis. The ob.erved decrease in the rate of protein hydrolysis could impact protein digestion and utilization.

Challenges and prospects for consumer acceptance of cultured meat

Consumer acceptance of cultured meat is expected to depend on a wide diversity of determinants ranging from technologyrelated perceptions to product-specific expectations, and including wider contextual factors like media coverage, pub.ic involvement, and trust in science, policy and society. This paper discusses the case of cultured meat against this multitude of possib.e determinants shaping future consumer acceptance or rejection. The paper also presents insights from a primary exploratory study performed in April 2013 with consumers from Flanders（b.lgium）（n=180）. The concept of cultured meat was only known（unaided） b. 13% of the study participants. After receiving b.sic information ab.ut what cultured meat is, participants expressed favorab.e expectations ab.ut the concept. Only 9% rejected the idea of trying cultured meat, while two thirds hesitated and ab.ut quarter indicated to b. willing to try it. The provision of additional information ab.ut the environmental b.nefits of cultured meat compared to traditional meat resulted in 43% of the participants indicating to b. willing to try this novel food, while another 51% indicated to b. ‘mayb.＇ willing to do so. Price and sensory expectations emerged as major ob.tacles. Consumers eating mostly vegetarian meals were less convinced that cultured meat might b. healthy, suggesting that vegetarians may not b. the ideal primary target group for this novel meat sub.titute. Although exploratory rather than conclusive, the findings generally underscore doub.s among consumers ab.ut trying this product when it would b.come availab.e, and therefore also the challenge for cultured meat to mimic traditional meat in terms of sensory quality at an affordab.e price in order to b.come acceptab.e for future consumers.

A new b.metallic complex containing Zn and La was prepared from a salen ligand possessing methoxyl groups at the 3, 3′-positions. The structural feature is that one of nitrate groups is disordered and displaced b.tween two metal centers. Crystal system: Triclinic space group:P-1, Z=2. a=0.82714(17) nm, b.1.3484(3) (1) nm, and c=1 3898(3) (1) nm, α=79.89(3)°, β=76.67(3)°, and γ=72.43(3)°. V=1 428 6(5) nm3, Dx=1.812 g·cm-3. (Δρ)max=1 510×10-3 enm3, (Δρ)min=-1.503×10-3 enm3. Accordingly, two water molecules occupy the metal centers in the apical positions via the syn-geometry.

Investigation of operational parameters for an industrial CFb.comb.stor of coal,b.omass and sludge

The comb.stion of coal and/or b.omass （sludge, wood waste, RDF, etc.） in a circulating fluidized b.d has b.en a commercial topper for over 20 years, and references to principles and applications are numerous and widespread although few data are presented concerning the operation of large scale CFb.units. The authors studied the CFb.comb.stion at UPM-Kymmene （Ayr）, a major paper mill relying for its steam production upon the comb.stion of coal （80-85 %）, wood b.rk （5-10%） and wastewater treatment sludge （5-10%）. The maximum capacity of the CFb.is 58 MWth. A complete diagnostic of the operation was made, and additional tests were performed to assess the operating mode. The plant schematics, relevant dimensions and process data are given. To assess the operation of the UPM-CFb. it is important to review essential design parameters and principles of CFb.comb.stors, which will b. discussed in detail to include required data, heat b.lance and flowrates, operating versus transport velocity, kinetics and conversion （including the possib.e effect of the b.uduard reaction if carb.n is present）. Since the residence time in the riser and the cyclone efficiency determine the b.rnout of circulating fuel-particles, the UPM-CFb.was sub.ected to a stimulus response technique using nickel oxide as tracer. Results illustrate the efficiency of the cyclone separation and the numb.r of recycle loops for particles of a given size. Results will also b. used to assess the cyclone operation and efficiency and to comment upon expected and measured carb.n conversion.

Impact of post-ruminally infused macronutrients on b.vine mammary gland expression of genes involved in fatty acid synthesis, energy metab.lism, and protein synthesis measured in RNA isolated from milk fat

b.ckground: Characterising the regulation of milk component synthesis in response to macronutrient supply is critical for understanding the implications of nutritional interventions on milk production. Gene expression in mammary gland secretory cells was measured using RNA isolated from milk fat glob.les from 6 Holstein-Friesian cows receiving 5-d ab.masal infusions of saline, essential amino acids(AA), or glucose(GG) or palm olein(LG)without(LAA) or with(HAA) essential AA, according to a 6 × 6 Latin square design. RNA was isolated from milk fat samples collected on d 5 of infusion and sub.ected to real-time quantitative PCR. We hypothesised that m RNA expression of genes involved in de novo milk fatty acid(FA) synthesis would b. differently affected b. GG and LG,and that expression of genes regulating transfer of tricarb.xylic acid cycle intermediates would increase at the HAA level. We also hypothesised that the HAA level would affect genes regulating endoplasmic reticulum(ER)homeostasis b.t would not affect genes related to the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1(m TORC1) or the integrated stress response(ISR) ***: Infusion of GG did not affect de novo milk FA yield b.t decreased expression of FA synthase(FASN).Infusion of LG decreased de novo FA yield and tended to decrease expression of acetyl-Co A carb.xylase 1(ACC1).The HAA level increased b.th de novo FA yield and expression of ACC1, and tended to decrease expression of mitochondrial phosphoenolpyruvate carb.xykinase(PCK2). m RNA expression of m TORC1 signaling participants was not affected b. Schreib.r’s b.nt-winged b.t Miniopterus schreib.rsii and the greater horseshoe b.t Rhinolophus ferrumequinum are widespread and common cavernicolous species across southern Europe that host numerous specialized ectoparasite *** ob.ective of this study was to characterize the species assemb.age,genetic diversity,and host specificity of b.t flies(Nycterib.idae,Diptera)and wing mites(Spinturnicidae,Acari)found on these b.t hosts in Serb.a and b.snia and ***,while b.t flies lay puparia on the cave walls and can thus b. transmitted indirectly,wing mites require direct b.dy contact for *** identification and sequencing of a 710-b. fragment of cytochrome oxidase I gene of 207 b.t flies yielded 4 species,3 on *** and 1 on *** of a 460-b. small sub.nit rib.somal RNA fragment,in all 190 collected wing mites revealed 2 species,1 per *** no case was a parasite associated with 1 host found on the other *** and genetic diversity of flies were higher in ***,likely reflecting their host’s larger colony sizes and migratory *** species of b.th hosts showed similarly low diversity,likely due to their faster life history and lower winter *** findings highlight a remarkab.y high host-specificity and segregation of ectoparasite species despite direct contact among their hosts in the roost,suggesting a defined host preference in the investigated ectoparasite ***,the differences in ectoparasite genetic diversity exemplify the interplay b.tween host and parasite life histories in shaping parasite population genetic structure.
