Purpose:To identify risk factors for developing pressure ulcers(PUs)in the acute care period of traumatic spinal fracture patients with or without spinal cord injuries(SCIs).Methods:Data were collected prospectively in participating the National Spinal column/Cord Injury Registry of Iran(NSCIR-IR)from individuals with traumatic spinal fractures with or without SCIs,in-clusive of the hospital stay from admission to *** nursing staff examined the patients for the presence of PUs every 8 h during their hospital *** presence and grade of PUs were assessed according to the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel *** addition to PU,following data were also extracted from the NSCIR-IR datasets during the period of 2015-2021:age,sex,Glasgow coma scale score at admission,having SCIs,marital status,surgery for a spinal fracture,American Spinal Injury Association impairment scale(AIS),urinary incontinence,level of education,admitted center,length of stay in the intensive care unit(ICU),hypertension,respiratory diseases,consumption of ciga-rettes,diabetes mellitus and length of stay in the *** regression models were used to es-timate the unadjusted and adjusted odds ratio(OR)with 95%confidence intervals(CI).Results:Altogether 2785 participants with traumatic spinal fractures were *** them,87(3.1%)developed PU during their hospital stay and 392(14.1%)had *** the SCI population,63(16.1%)developed PU during hospital *** logistic regression for the whole sample showed that marital status,having SCIs,urinary incontinence,level of education,treating center,number of days in the ICU,age,and Glasgow coma scale score were significant predictors for ***,further analysis by multiple logistic regression only revealed the significant risk factors to be the treating center,marital status,having SCIs,and the number of days in the *** the subgroup of individuals with SCIs,marital status,AIS,urinary incontinenc

Observers based on set value theory（SVO） have a good performance in the maneuvering target tracking（MTT） problem. By assuming system disturbances, are unknown but bounded（UBB） the SVO or UBB filters can be used in maneuvering target tracking（MTT） problems. In the UBB filter implementation, free parameters appeared when bounding ellipsoids are used. Inappropriate choice of these free parameters, reduce accuracy and caused filter instability. To solve these problems, two methods（recursive parameters calculation（RPC） and calculates the optimal free parameters（OPC）） will be developed. Free parameters that calculated with OPC method, improves the accuracy of maneuvering targets state estimation and avoid algorithms instability in the MTT problem. The results of numerical simulations, confirms improved the efficiency and accuracy of the UBBF filter by using OPC method for free parameters calculation.

The use of microorganisms for biological purpose has become an effective alternative to control pathogens. A total of 100 bacteria were isolated from marine samples of Sindh and Baluchistan coast of Pakistan and screened for antibacterial activity. One strain CMG1066, identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, showed antibacterial activity, capable of inhibiting growth of clinical isolates such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Serratia marcesence, Salmonella typhi, Shigella flexnerie, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Streptococcus group G, Clostridium perfringens, Clostridium sporogenes, as well as indigenous marine bacteria such as Shewanella putrifacians, Vibrio alginolyticus, Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis. The inhibitory activity was stable at temperatures of 80°, 90° and 100°C, but was partially inactivated at 121°C. Analysis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa established that antibacterial activity could be detected in an ethyl acetate fraction of the crude extract, and this suggests that the substance was not bound to cell surface. Microscopic examination of exponentially growing cells of S. aureus and B. subtilis treated with crude extract of P. aeruginosa showed some very interesting morphological changes.

A New Generalized Weibull Model:Classical and Bayesian Estimation

Statistical distributions play a prominent role in applied sciences,particularly in biomedical *** medical data sets are generally skewed to the right,and skewed distributions can be used quite effectively to model such kind of data *** the present study,therefore,we propose a new family of distributions suitable for modeling right-skewed medical data *** proposed family may be called a new generalized-X family.A special sub-model of the proposed family called a new generalized-Weibull distribution is discussed in *** maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are obtained.A brief Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of these ***,the proposed model is applied to the remission times of the stomach cancer patient’s *** comparison of the goodness of fit results of the proposed model is made with the other competing models such as Weibull,Kumaraswamy Weibull,and exponentiated Weibull *** analytical measures such as Akaike information criterion,Bayesian information criterion,Anderson Darling statistic,and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test statistic are considered to show which distribution provides the best fit to *** on these measures,it is showed that the proposed distribution is a reasonable candidate for modeling data in medical sciences and other related fields.

Acute electrical injury: A systematic review

Objective: To review low-voltage, high-voltage and lightening electrical burns in adults and children, identify novel areas that are not recognized and improve treatments results and outcome. Methods: An extensive literature search on electrical burn injuries was performed using Ovid Medline, PubMed and Embase databases from 1976 to 2016. Studies related to electrical injury in the adult and children (< 15 years of age) population were included in our study. Fifty-one research papers and review articles were identified and included in this study. Results: Total occurrence of electrical injury among burn injuries ranged from 3.5% to 15.0%. Most of them were low voltage (73%) and one fourth were high voltage and percentage of lightening injuries were very low around 2%–4% of total cases of electrical injury. Mortality is somehow higher among high voltage electrical injuries and lightening. Most of complications of them were morbid in kidney, heart, extremities (including amputations) and nervous systems. Long-term psychological problems were reported with greater incidence rates in high-voltage injuries. Psychological and posttraumatic stress disorders were also reported. Mortality rates from electrical injuries were 2.6% in low voltage and 5.2% in high voltage. Conclusions: High-voltage injury leads to greater morbidity and mortality than low-voltage one. Lightening has mortality of about 32%, higher rates of complications and specialty long-term complications. Strict multi-specialty treatment and rehabilitations are required for proper treatment of electrical injuries.
