The goal of this work was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Red Light Emitted Toothbrush(R-LETB)emitting at wavelength of 663 nm with power density of 3.3mW/cm2 in combination with 0.1%-methylene blue(mB)solution for the reduction of plaque and treatment of gingivitis.A microbiological in vitro study and a pilot clinical study were *** microbiological study has shown total suppression of pathogenicflora after a 3-min exposure to the dye solution followed by a 20-sec treatment with the *** the clinical study,37 subjects of both sexes with gingivitis were enrolled and randomly assigned to one of two *** in thefirst(treatment)group were instructed to rinse their mouth with mB solution provided for 1 min and then brush the teeth with the R-LETB and standardized *** second(control)group used only the toothpaste and a regular *** in both groups followed their respective procedures 2 times a day(morning and evening)for 30 *** of plaque,gingival bleeding,and inflammation were evaluated at 14-day and 30-day *** the both groups,all indices improved in comparison with ***,the treatment group demonstrated more pronounced improvement of the studied indices that was attributed to additional anti-microbial action of red light and mB on gum ***,the use of R-LETB with mB appears to have a multifactor therapeutic action on oral pathological microflora:mechanical removal of the bacteria and suppressing action on microorganisms due to photodynamic reaction.

Buoyed by the extensive research on the wide-range biological activities of aminophosphonates, a novel class of aminated (cyclopropylmethyl)phosphor-nates compounds was synthesized from diethyl ((1-(3-chloropropyl)cyclopropyl)methyl)phosphonate and various amines in the presence of Hunig’s base. Upon biological activity screening these compounds demonstrated encouraging anti-pancreatic cancer properties at low micromolar concentrations.

Arctic wanning leads to permafrost degradation,which can increase ecosystem respiration and release more greenhouse gas into the ***,climate warming also promotes the plant growth and increases carbon ***,it is largely unknown about the carbon budget and their responses to climate change in the Arctic *** this study,to investigate the seasonal and annual net ecosystem carbon exchange(NEE),we collected 71 observation stations for net ecosystem exchange(NEE)of CO_(2)in the high latitude permafrost regions during *** results showed that the annual NEE was-8.2±4.1 g CO_(2)m^(-2)d^(-1)for forest,-3.3±2.6 g CO_(2)m^(-2)d^(-1)for shrub,-4.8±4.1 g CO_(2)m^(-2)d^(-1)for grassland,-3.6±3.0 g CO_(2)m^(-2)d^(-1)for wetland and 0.02±0.62 g CO_(2)m^(-2)d^(-1)for tundra,*** 2002 to 2017,the CO_(2)emissions of grassland(carbon source)showed a decreasing trend,and the CO_(2)assimilation of shrub and forest(carbon sink)has been *** wetland and tundra are shifting from carbon sources to *** were great variations in temperature sen-sitivities(Q10)of NEE in different seasons,with larger values in winter and lower values in *** findings indicate that the Arctic terrestrial ecosystem presently acts as a carbon sink,while there is a possibility that future warming,especially the warming in winter,may decrease the carbon sink of the Arctic terrestrial ecosystem.

Peculiarities of Structural Transformations in HAZ metal of Rail Steel m76 Joint Produced by Flash-Butt Welding

The railway transport is one of the main types of communications in the world. Analysis of service conditions of the most critical elements of the railway transport rolling stock （mils, wheels and tyres） shows that one of the main factors determining their reliability and service life is the structural-phase state of steel, which is formed in the process of its producing. Complication of service conditions leads to the more severe requirements, specified by the consumers, where the high level of strength and hardness should be combined with high values of ductility and toughness. Realization of these requirements is possible only at the integrated approach to the improvement of technology of their production on the basis of profound knowledge in kinetics of austenite decay processes of structure formation and its contribution to the mechanical properties. With the formation of mainly bainite-martensite structures in the HAZ （heat-affected zone） metal of welded joints of these steels and saturation of this region with diffusive hydrogen their susceptibility to the cold cracking is increased. In this connection this work presents the results of investigations of effect of the WTC （welding thermal cycles） on the nature of structural transformations, hardness, static strength and resistance to the formation of cold cracks in HAZ metal of high-strength carbon rail steel m76. For this purpose, the structure and kinetics of transformation of an overcooled austenite was studied using the advanced methods of physical materials science by the modeling of phase transformations in the Gleeble 3800 unit. It was found that the cause of reduction in mechanical properties of welded joints of steel m76 is the formation of regions with a completely martensite structure in the amount of up to 5%. Results of investigations will be applied for the optimizing the technology and conditions of FBW of the advanced rail steels. 10 Ref., 4 Tables, 11 Figures.

AIm To investigate the impact of medication beliefs, illness perceptions and quality of life on medication adherence in people with decompensated *** One hundred adults with decompensated cirrhosis completed a structured questionnaire when they attended for routine outpatient hepatology review. measures of self-reported medication adherence(morisky medication Adherence Scale), beliefs surrounding medications(Beliefs about medicines Questionnaire), perceptions of illness and medicines(Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire), and quality of life(Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire) were examined. Clinical data were obtained via patient history and review of medical records. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and stepwise backwards regression techniques were used to construct the multivariable logistic regression model. Statistical significance was set at alpha = *** medication adherence was " High " in 42 % o f participants, "medium" in 37%, and "Low" in 21%. Compared to patients with "High" adherence, those with "medium" or "Low" adherence were more likely to report difficulty affording their medications(P ment helpfulness(P = 0.003) and stronger medication concerns relative to medication necessity beliefs(P = 0.003). People with "Low" adherence also experienced greater symptom burden and poorer quality of life, including more frequent abdominal pain(P = 0.023), shortness of breath(P = 0.030), and emotional disturbances(P = 0.050). multivariable analysis identified having stronger medication concerns relative to necessity beliefs(Necessity-Concerns Differential ≤ 5, OR = 3.66, 95%CI: 1.18-11.40) and more frequent shortness of breath(shortness of breath score ≤ 3, OR = 3.87,95%CI: 1.22-12.25) as independent predictors of "Low"*** The association between "Low" adherence and patients having strong concerns or doubting the necessity or helpfulness of their medications should be explor

An Aminopyrrolidinyl Phosphonates—A New Class of Antibiotics: Facile Synthesis and Predicted Biological Activity

A novel class of aminopyrrolidinyl phosphonates was synthesized in 74% - 80% isolated yield by the addition of three-fold excess of primary amines to diethyl 4-chloro-1-butynylphosphonates. The reaction was carried out at room temperature and in the absence of solvent or catalyst to give solely compounds which showed predicted biological activity based on PASS program. Some of the synthesized derivatives of antibiotics exhibit properties for the treatment of stroke, the treatment of acute neurological disorders, and can also be acetyl esterase inhibitors.

Phase-matched third-harmonic generation via doubly resonant optical surface modes in 1D photonic crystals

Efficient nonlinear conversion requires that interacting optical waves maintain a consistent phase relationship when traveling in a medium despite its *** phase-matching,which is often used to compensate for the dispersion,is not applicable to optically isotropic nonlinear ***,we present a one-dimensional photonic crystal structure that allows the propagation of optical surface waves,both at the fundamental and third-harmonic frequencies,as an efficient medium for phasematched third-harmonic generation.A unique advantage of this structure is that the effective refractive indices for the surface waves are similar to the refractive index of air at both *** allows phase-matching between the first and third harmonics,and a visible collinear beam of the third harmonic is produced at the prism-coupled ***,these optical surface waves propagate over long distances even if a lossy nonlinear nanofilm is deposited onto the photonic crystal *** provide experimental results for third-harmonic generation at a wavelength of 410 nm for a bare dielectric Ta2O5/SiO2 multilayer structure and for the same structure coated with a 15-nm GaAs film.

Low-Temperature Peculiarities of Electron Transport Properties of Carbon Nanotubes

The large dispersion of data on electrical resistivity (from 10-4 ?·m to 20 ?·m) and low-temperature peculiarities of electrical resistivity (decreasing when temperature increases) in different carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are shown to be described by the classical Drude low with the electron relaxation time calculated by the quantum mechanical techniques, taking into account multiple elastic scattering of electrons by impurities and structural irregularities which are formed in nanotubes during their synthesis. In the frame of our approach it is also possible to describe the wide spread of magnitudes of thermal conductivity, its temperature dependence and to understand why thermopower of these systems does not have any dispersion in magnitude for different CNTs. For resistance and thermal conductivity the magnitude of carrier concentration is determinant but for thermopower it is not important.

The stabilization and manipulation of laser frequency by means of an external cavity are nearly ubiquitously used in fundamental research and laser applications. While most of the laser light transmits through the cavity, in the presence of some back-scattered light from the cavity to the laser, the self-injection locking effect can take place, which locks the laser emission frequency to the cavity mode of similar frequency. The self-injection locking leads to dramatic reduction of laser linewidth and noise. Using this approach, a common semiconductor laser locked to an ultrahigh-Q microresonator can obtain sub-Hertz linewidth, on par with state-of-the-art fiber lasers. Therefore it paves the way to manufacture high-performance semiconductor lasers with reduced footprint and cost. moreover, with high laser power, the optical nonlinearity of the microresonator drastically changes the laser dynamics, offering routes for simultaneous pulse and frequency comb generation in the same microresonator. Particularly, integrated photonics technology, enabling components fabricated via semiconductor CmOS process, has brought increasing and extending interest to laser manufacturing using this method. In this article, we present a comprehensive tutorial on analytical and numerical methods of laser self-injection locking, as well a review of most recent theoretical and experimental achievements.
