A Model to Analyze Small and Medium Enterprises＇ Training Needs Related to the Internationalization

Formal training can play a particularly important role in supporting the internationalization of small and medium enterprises （SMEs）. However, the demand for education services by the latter still appears limited. This is due to known structural and cultural limits that are found widely in this type of business and to the fact that the provision of training---especially that which is funded^oes not seem to address adequately SMEs＇ needs; in many cases, such training is not stimulating, because it is perceived as too general. In fact, SMEs do not constitute a single homogeneous group and therefore assistance needs vary among the different types of firms. So, especially in relation to internationalization, it is clear that there are important differences to consider due to the variety of approaches and ways of developing this process. In order to optimize the resources to invest in the promotion of training, there is a need to find a proper balance between providing ＂viable solutions for all businesses＂ and offering ＂targeted responses and tailored services＂. In such a context, the main objective of this paper is to identify and systematize the variables that most influence the SMEs＇ training needs related to internationalization by taking into account the differences among them. To this end, an empirical analysis was developed involving a significant number of Italian SMEs by using a combination of qualitative research methods. The results show the critical issues faced by the investigated firms during their internationalization process and highlight some important variables that affect their training needs： export involvement, characteristics of the product/market, characteristics of the company, exporting strategy, and human resources. Based on these variables, the writers identified clusters of firms characterized by similar needs and problems to be faced.

Joint RANS/LES Modeling of Flameless Combustion

We present our timesaving joint RANS/LES approach (we originally developed it for numerical simulations of turbulent premixed combustion) to simulate flameless combustion with separate injection of gas fuel and strong exhaust gas recirculation. It is based on successive RANS/LES numerical modeling where part of the information (stationary average fields) is achieved by RANS simulations and part (instantaneous nonstationary image of the process) by LES. The latter is performed using the RANS field of mean dissipation rate to model the sub-grid turbulent viscosity in the context of the Kolmogorov theory of small-scale turbulence. We analyze flameless combustion in the FLOX? combustor where we also simulate non-premixed flame combustion used for preliminary heating of the combustor. Different regimes take place using different systems of air injection. We applied for both regimes the simple assumption of “mixed is burnt”. The main results are the following: 1) RANS simulations demonstrate for used two injection systems respectively more compact flame and distributed flameless combustion. 2)There is agreement between RANS and corresponding LES results: RANS and averaged LES profiles of the velocity and temperature are in reasonable agreement. 3) LES modeling with Kolmogorov independent on time sub-grid viscosity reproduce instantaneous image of the process including the vortex structures. Probably due to using an annular injector system for air the instantaneous field of the temperature demonstrate significant irregularity in the beginning of the burner, which in an animation looks like moving coherent structures. 4) In the joint RANS/LES approach the computer time of the LES sub-problems is much shorter than classic LES modeling due to using time independent subgrid transport coefficients and avoiding long-continued simulations, which are necessary for averaging of instantaneous LES fields. Providing reliable compositions of Web Services is a challenging issue since the workflow architect often has only a limited control over the reliability of the composed services. The architect can instead achieve reliability by properly planning the workflow architecture. To this end he must be able to evaluate and compare the reliability of multiple architectural solutions. In this paper we present a useful tool which allows to conduct reliability analysis on planned workflows, as well as to compare the reliability of alternative solutions in a what-if analysis. The tool is implemented as a plug-in for the widely adopted Active BPEL Designer and exploits the concept of reliability pattern to evaluate the reliability formula of the workflow. The effectiveness of the approach and the operation of the tool are demonstrated with respect to a case study of a business security infrastructure realized by orchestrating simple security services.

Weather events put human lives at risk mostly when people might occupy areas susceptible to natural *** Professional Weather Stations(PWS)in vulnerable areas is key for monitoring weather with reliable ***,such professional instrumentation is notably expensive while remote sensing from a number of stations is *** imposes challenges on the large-scale weather station deployment for broad monitoring from large observation networks such as in Cemaden—The Brazilian National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural *** this context,in this paper,we propose a Low-Cost Automatic Weather Station(LCAWS)system developed from Commercial Off-The-Shelf(COTS)and open-source Internet of Things(IoT)technologies,which provides measurements as reliable as a reference PWS for natural disaster *** being automatic,LCAWS is a stand-alone photovoltaic system connected wirelessly to the Internet in order to provide real-time reliable end-to-end weather *** achieve data reliability,we propose an intelligent sensor calibration method to correct *** a 30-day uninterrupted observation with sampling in minute resolution,we show that the calibrated LCAWS sensors have no statistically significant differences from the PWS *** such,LCAWS has opened opportunities for reducing maintenance costs in Cemaden's observational network.

Recurrent Transient Osteoporosis during Pregnancy and Treatment with Oral Bisphosphonates: A Case Report

Transient osteoporosis of the hip (TOH), also known as “Bone marrow edema Syndrome”, is a rare disorder mainly affecting pregnant women in their third trimester, as well as middle-aged, overweight men. A 30-year-old Caucasian female G2P2, with history of transient osteoporosis of both ankles and C-Section during the last pregnancy in 2011, presented progressively severe bilateral hip pain with onset already in the 12th gestational week. Imaging of the pelvis and bilateral hips with MRI obtained 6 days after the C-Section demonstrated bilateral bone-marrow edema of the hips. The patient was treated with a monthly single dose of 150 mg ibandronate acid per os, for 3 months and physiotherapy. Repeated MRI performed 5 months postpartum revealed a complete remission of the disease. In contrast to the first onset of transient osteoporosis during the first pregnancy, which was only treated conservatively without bisphosphonates, the remission of the disease and patient’s recovery with oral ibandronate therapy showed to be 4 months shorter. This case is unique in literature for both describing the onset of this rare disease twice in the same patient as well as its oral therapeutic approach.

Several studies about the brand ＂made in Italy＂ have illustrated the real significance of this brand, placing it in the top position for brand awareness in most countries. The words ＂made in Italy＂ evoke in consumers＇ minds attributes that positively characterize the image of Italy as a country--in particular, the attributes of creativity, aesthetics, quality, and sophistication--facilitating the perception of a differential value through the effect of the product-country association. Italians are proud of this, but what really composes the brand ＂made in Italy＂？ Above all, is there any truth behind this expression？ The paper aims to propose a critical analysis about the ＂made in Italy＂ value appropriation and the future development of this brand.

We provide a concise review of the main epidemiological literature on fatty liver(FL) published between January 2011 and October 2013. The findings from the literature will be considered in light of the already available knowledge. We discuss the limitations inherent in the categorization of FL into non-alcoholic and alcoholic FL, the potential relevance of FL as an independent predictor of cardiometabolic disease, and recent research addressing the role of FL as an independent predictor of mortality. This review is organized as a series of answers to relevant questions about the epidemiology of FL.

BACKGROUND Limb lengthening techniques play an increasingly important role in the pediatric orthopedic *** principles of the osteogenesis distraction bonded traditionally with external fixators;however,the recent deployment of fully implantable systems has been able to overcome severities related to external *** PRECICE®is an implantable limb lengthening intramedullary nail system that is remotely controlled and magnetically *** To review the current literature available on this matter in order to assess the PRECICE clinical and radiological outcomes and its possible complications in a population of pediatric patients undergoing limb *** Only five studies met the inclusion criteria and were consequently included in the review for a total of 131 patients and 135 *** clinical and radiological outcomes of interest were:the main lengthening obtained,the distraction rate,the period of time to full weight bearing,the consolidation index,and the Association for the Study and Application of Methods of Ilizarov *** In conclusion,data collected from the articles under investigation were comparable with the exception of the consolidation ***,the study population was too small and the patients’follow-up was too short to make definitive *** This review shows that the PRECICE Nail System is still a therapeutic challenge in limb lengthening for pediatric orthopedic surgeons;however,careful preoperative planning and an accurate surgical technique could allow the correction of more complex deformities with a low rate of complications.
