Dry age-related macular degeneration(AMD)is a progressive blinding disease that currently affects millions of people worldwide with no successful treatment *** research efforts are currently underway to develop therapies aimed at slowing the progression of this disease or,more notably,reversing *** the therapies which have reached clinical trial for treatment of dry AMD were reviewed.A thorough search of Pub Med,Embase,and *** has led to a comprehensive collection of the most recent strategies being *** review also endeavors to assess the status and future directions of therapeutics for this debilitating condition.

The sunflower has the potential to be a highly competitive crop owing to its diversity market and the valuable oil it ***,the amount of sunflower seed oil-a key factor for the crushing industry-is affected by genotype and environment,which sometimes is difficult to *** paper analyzes the theoretical principles of sunflower growth in Ukraine,highlights the current trends in the sowing of this crop,the influence of climatic factors of the environment on the prospects of the oilseed sunflower *** results of the research are presented for 3 years(2014-2016),during the authors conducted a grain quality observatory at the regional level,taking into account the climatic conditions of sunflower growth in different natural zones of Ukraine(from 45to 51north latitude and from 22to 37east longitude).Additionally,the research includes the coefficient of significance of the deviation from long-term climatic indicators,which makes it possible to forecast sunflower yield in the *** analyzed data was obtained from the commercial fields with a minimum area of 40 ha in all Ukrainian regions except Crimea peninsula,Donetsk and Luhansk *** results obtained in research show the great diversity of oil content index as per both latitude and longitude *** we consider the entire country,this survey shows that the seed oil content can change dramatically from year to year:e.g.47.5%in one year versus 45.7%in another ***,these changes have a completely different dynamic with a gradual decrease in seed oil content in the southern part of the *** main goal of the research was to identify the best sunflower growing areas in Ukraine according to the oil content index.

Valentin's rock lizard (Darevskia valentini) is suggested to be the pare nt for several parthenoge netic species (e.g., D. armeniaca, D. bendimahiensis, D. sapphirina, and D. unisexualis) that evolved through hybridization. Complex evolutionary processes (ineluding reticulate evolution) are occurring within the areas where Valentin' s rock lizard coexists with these and other rock lizards. Hence, a detailed biological specification of this species is important for understanding how vertebrates evolve. Valentin's rock lizard is a longlived (up to 9 years), small diurnal lizard with larger females than males, which is unlike other species of the genus. Their relatively large eggs and early reproducti on period, which occurs just after emerge nee from winter shelters, are adaptatio ns for living in a high elevation climate (higher than 2 000 m a.s.l.). Their body temperatures (31 -32℃) are comparable to body temperatures of rock lizards living in milder climates, though female body temperature is more depe ndent on substrate temperature and basking due to their lower activity than that found in males. Population density fluctuates from several individuals to several hundred per hectare and is not affected by parthenogen coexistenee, although hybrids do occur in sexually biased populations where males are more common than females. The male home range is larger than that of females, though these home ranges broadly overlap. Prey is not limited in the mountain meadows and Valentin's rock lizards feed on a great variety of arthropods. Infan ticide occurs in high-de nsity populati ons.

Development of an HPLC–UV assay method for the simultaneous quantification of nine antiretroviral agents in the plasma of HIV-infected patients

A new method using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with ultra violet detection(HPLC–UV)was developed and validated for the simultaneous quantification of atazanavir,dolutegravir,darunavir,efavirenz,etravirine lopinavir,raltegravir,rilpivirine and tipranavir in human *** the first time we reported here the development and validation of an HPLC–UV assay to quantify the frequently administered 9antiretroviral compounds including dolutegravir and rilpivirine.A simple solid phase extraction procedure was applied to 500 μL aliquots of *** chromatographic separation of the drugs and internal standard(quinoxaline) was achieved with a gradient of acetonitrile and sodium acetate buffer on a C_(18) reverse-phase analytical column with a 25 min analytical run *** curves were optimised according to the therapeutic range of drug concentrations in patients,and the coefficient of determination(r^2) was higher than0.99 for all *** intraday and interday precisions(RSD) for all compounds were less than 15.0%,and the mean accuracy(% deviation from nominal concentration) was also found to be less than 15.0%.Extraction recovery range was between 80% and 120% for all drugs *** solid phase extraction and HPLC–UV method enable a specific,sensitive,and reliable simultaneous determination of nine antiretroviral agents in *** extraction efficiency and low limit of HPLC–UV quantification make this method suitable for use in clinical trials and therapeutic drug monitoring.

Mussels close their shell as a protective strategy and the quantification of this behavioral marker may represent an alarm signal when they are exposed to environmental *** the present study,we investigated the ability of the Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis to recover and then the resilience or inertia of valve activity after a pulsing exposition to diverse levels of salinity(5,10,20,and 35 PSU as reference value).The trial simulated an event of drastic and sudden reduction of seawater salinity thus mimicking an event of flash flood from intense *** gaping and movements were measured in continuous cycle for 10 days using a customized magnetoelectric device which uses Hall *** showed that under normal conditions of salinity(35 PSU),the general pattern of valve movements was a continuously open state with sporadic spikes indicating a closing *** salinity of 5,PSU mussels reacted by closing their valves,leading to a 77%mortality on the 4th *** salinity of 10,PSU animals were observed with closed valves for the entire duration of the exposure and no mortality occurred,they showed a significant reduction in the valve activity once the reference value of salinity was *** contrast,salinity of 20 PSU did not trigger a significant behavioral ***,there no define rhythms of valve movements were recorded during salinity challenges.

A multivariate optimization process of the sample extraction procedure by Box-Behnken design through a global desirability function is described for the determination of six non-dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls(NDL-PCBs#28,52,101,153,138 and 180)in milk by GC-ECD and mass *** factors were involved in refining the extraction conditions:the acetone percentage in the extraction mixture,the sample/solvent ratio,and the extraction *** three-factor design required 26 experiments that were carried out in duplicate and in a randomized order to minimize the bias effects of uncontrolled *** optimized factors(acetone percentage:30%;sample-to-solvent ratio:0.11 g mL^-1;extraction time:45 min)ensured a low solvent consumption and a reduced extraction time,allowing a rapid and simultaneous preparation of multiple sample *** method was validated according to the European directives(Decision 657/2002/EC,SANTE 2017/11813/EC)through the evaluation of linearity,selectivity,LOD,LOQ,recovery,precision,and ruggedness.

Predictive factors of clinical response in steroid-refractory ulcerative colitis treated with granulocyte-monocyte apheresis

AIM:To identify factors predicting the clinical response of ulcerative colitis patients to granulocyte-monocyte apheresis (GMA). METHODS:Sixty-nine ulcerative colitis patients (39 F,30 M) dependent upon/refractory to steroids were treated with GMA. Steroid dependency,clinical activity index (CAI),C reactive protein (CRP) level,erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR),values at baseline,use of immunosuppressant,duration of disease,and age and extent of disease were considered for statistical analysis as predictive factors of clinical response. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used. RESULTS:In the univariate analysis,CAI (P = 0.039) and ESR (P = 0.017) levels at baseline were singled out as predictive of clinical remission. In the multivariate analysis steroid dependency [Odds ratio (OR) = 0.390,95% Confidence interval (CI):0.176-0.865,Wald 5.361,P = 0.0160] and low CAI levels at baseline (4 < CAI <7) (OR = 0.770,95% CI:0.425-1.394,Wald 3.747,P = 0.028) proved to be effective as factors predicting clinical response. CONCLUSION:GMA may be a valid therapeutic option for steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis patients with mild-moderate disease and its clinical efficacy seems to persist for 12 mo.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) is an invasive procedure with a complication rate ranging from 4% to 10% [1]. While post-procedure pancreatitis is the most common risk, bleeding also deserves attention. The most common symptoms of post-procedure bleeding were abdominal pain(91.7%), anemia(43.8%), hypotension(29.2%) and fever(20.8%) [2,3].
