Streptococcus mutans(***)is the most common cariogenic bacteria and causes caries by forming biofilms.A novel gradient Cu-bearing titanium alloy(TC4-5Cu/TC4)was manufactured using selective laser melting(SLM)technology for dental applications,which is anticipated to inhibit the formation of *** this study,the released concentration of copper ions in both minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC)was tested in order to assess the antibacterial property of the alloy against planktonic ***,and the antibacterial and antibiofilm efficiencies of TC4-5Cu/TC4 alloy against sessile *** were evaluated via quantitative antibacterial tests and biofilm *** transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)was performed to analyze the expression of biofilm-related genes(gtfB,gtfC,gtfD,ftf and gbpB)and acid production-related gene(ldh).The results suggested that the MIC and MBC of Cu^(2+)were much higher than the release concentration of copper ions of the alloy,which was consistent with the lack of antibacterial effect against planktonic *** the contrary,TC4-5Cu/TC4 alloy exhibited significant bactericidal property against the sessile bacteria and efficient biofilm-restrained ability,and all genes detected in this research were *** results indicated that the TC4-5Cu/TC4 alloy suppressed biofilm formation and the sessile bacterial viability by down-regulating biofilm-related genes.

Morphological evidence in active tectonic areas originate from alternative mechanisms to those described consisting of subcircular shapes suggests that these geometries may by translational dynamics of complex faults. The mechanics behind endogenic forces, in particular convection currents, hasn＇t been completely explained. Differing in density from upward flows developing in atmosphere and in water, magma upwelling from the mantle can trigger endogenic vortexes in particular conditions and due to Coriolis Force. At their onset and ascent phase, vortexes apply lateral forces as result of rotation, open their way toward the surface and over time stabilize the channel. Opposite to a rising linear flow which compacts overlying materials impeding their surge, vortex flows unload the materials externally and compact them on the lateral surface of the channel, thus making it more regular and stable. Torsional movements on the surface associated to vulcanites, lateral ramps and subcircular elevations, can be observed. Other phenomena that may be consequence of vortex dynamics are the volcanic cones showing pseudo-rotations in the morphologies surrounding the crater. In this study we suggest a modeling for a vortex theory which may explain the Earth dynamics in terms of spiraling movement and magma upwelling stabilizing over time.

The use of fundamental modelocking to generate short terahertz(THz)pulses and THz frequency combs from semiconductor lasers has become a routine affair,using quantum cascade lasers(QCLs)as a gain ***,unlike classic laser diodes,no demonstrations of harmonic modelocking,active or passive,have been shown in THz QCLs,where multiple pulses per round trip are generated when the laser is modulated at the harmonics of the cavity’s fundamental round-trip ***,using time-resolved THz techniques,we show for the first time harmonic injection and mode-locking in which THz QCLs are modulated at the harmonics of the round-trip *** demonstrate the generation of the harmonic electrical beatnote within a QCL,its injection locking to an active modulation and its direct translation to harmonic pulse generation using the unique ultrafast nature of our ***,we show indications of self-starting harmonic emission,i.e.,without external modulation,where the QCL operates exclusively on a harmonic(up to its 15th harmonic)of the round-trip *** behaviour is supported by time-resolved simulations of induced gain and loss in the system and shows the importance of the electronic,as well as photonic,nature of *** results open up the prospect of passive harmonic modelocking and THz pulse generation,as well as the generation of low-noise microwave generation in the hundreds of GHz region.

Far lateral lumbar disc herniations(FLLDH)represent a separate category of disc pathology which includes both intraforaminal and extraforaminal lumbar disc herniations,that are characterized by a peculiar clinical presentation,diagnostic and treatment modalities as compared to the more frequent median and paramedian disc *** treatment often represents the only effective weapon for the cure of this disease and over the years different approaches have been developed that can reach the region of the foramen or external to it,with different degrees of *** diagnosis is more demanding and still underestimated as it requires a more detailed knowledge in the spine anatomy and dedicated radiological *** tomography and in particular magnetic resonance imaging are the appropriate tools for the diagnosis of *** the widespread use of these diagnostic tests,many cases of FLLDH are overlooked due to insufficiently detailed radiological examinations or due to the execution of exams not focused to the foraminal or the extraforaminal *** studies represent a valid aid in the diagnostic classification of this pathology and in some cases they can facilitate the differential diagnosis with other types of *** the present study,a comprehensive review of the clinical presentation,epidemiology,radiological study and the neurophysiological aspects is presented.

For the development of alert systems for soil slip occurrence, it is important to evaluate the degree of saturation of shallow soils (Sr) over wide areas. Taking into account the possibility to estimate spatial and temporal variation of soil moisture using remote sensing techniques, a possible correlation between Sr and the daily output of a sequential data assimilation system called ACHAB (Assimilation Code for HeAt and moisture Balance) has been studied. ACHAB is based on integrated use of remotely sensed land surface temperature (LST) and common data on meteorological forcing such as air temperature, wind-speed and incident solar radiation. The aim of this study is to understand if it is possible to use ACHAB output (a daily value of evaporative fraction for the whole Italian territory) to define the parameter Sr that could be introduced in a simplified model for the description of soil slip triggering mechanisms on territorial scale.

To explore the natural resources as sustainable precursors offers a family of green *** use of bio-waste precursors especially the remaining from food processing is a scalable,highly abundant,and cost-effective *** waste materials is highly important especially for new materials discovery in emerging energy storage technologies such as lithium sulfur batteries(LSBs).Herein,waste milk powder is carbonized and constructed as the sulfur host with the hollow micro-/mesoporous framework,and the resulting carbonized milk powder and sulfur(CMP/S) composites are employed as cathodes for *** is revealed that the hollow micro-/mesoporous CMP/S framework can not only accommodate the volume expansion but also endow smooth pathways for the fast diffusion of electrons and Li-ions,leading to both high capacity and long cycling *** CMP/S composite electrode with 56 wt% loaded sulfur exhibits a remarkable initial capacity of 1596 mAh g^(-1) at 0.1 C,corresponding to 95% of the theoretical *** at a rate of 1 C,it maintains a high capacity of 730 mAh g^(-1) with a capacity retention of 72.6% after 500 cycles,demonstrating a very low capacity fading of only 0.05% per ***,the Coulombic efficiency is always higher than 96%during all the *** only used source material is expired waste milk powders in our *** believe that this "trash to treasure" approach will open up a new way for the utilization of waste material as environmentally safe and high performance electrodes for advanced LSBs.

A multivariate optimization process of the sample extraction procedure by Box-Behnken design through a global desirability function is described for the determination of six non-dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls(NDL-PCBs#28,52,101,153,138 and 180)in milk by GC-ECD and mass *** factors were involved in refining the extraction conditions:the acetone percentage in the extraction mixture,the sample/solvent ratio,and the extraction *** three-factor design required 26 experiments that were carried out in duplicate and in a randomized order to minimize the bias effects of uncontrolled *** optimized factors(acetone percentage:30%;sample-to-solvent ratio:0.11 g mL^-1;extraction time:45 min)ensured a low solvent consumption and a reduced extraction time,allowing a rapid and simultaneous preparation of multiple sample *** method was validated according to the European directives(Decision 657/2002/EC,SANTE 2017/11813/EC)through the evaluation of linearity,selectivity,LOD,LOQ,recovery,precision,and ruggedness.
