Assessment of water quality suitability for agriculture in a potentially leachate-contaminated region

Dump sites pose a significant threat to groundwater resources due to the possibility of leachate leakage into the *** study investigated the impact of leachate on groundwater quality in the southwest region of Zanjan City,Iran,where groundwater is utilized for drinking,agricultural,and industrial *** analyzed 18 parameters of dump site leachate,including physicochemical,heavy metals,and bacterial properties,alongside 13 groundwater *** was conducted twice,in November 2020 and June 2021,within a five-kilometer radius of the Zanjan dump *** utilized the Leachate Pollution Index(LPI)to evaluate potential groundwater contamination by leachate leakage from nearby ***,due to the predominant agricultural activities in the study area,various indices were employed to assess groundwater quality for agricultural purposes,such as Sodium Adsorption Ratio(SAR),Soluble Sodium Index(SSI),Kelly Ratio(KR),and Permeability Index(PI).Our analysis revealed no observed contamination related to leachate in the study area according to the LPI ***,with the persistent pollution threat,implementing sanitary measures at the dump site is crucial to prevent potential impacts on groundwater ***,the assessment of groundwater quality adequacy for irrigation yielded satisfactory results for SAR,KR,and PI ***,during both the dry(November 2020)and wet seasons(June 2021),the SSP index indicated that 80%of the samples were not classified as excellent,suggesting groundwater may not be suitable for ***,our qualitative study highlights the significant impact of the dry season on groundwater quality in the study area,attributed to elevated concentration levels of the investigated parameters within groundwater sources during the dry season.

Daily and Monthly Suspended Sediment Load Predictions Using Wavelet Based Artificial Intelligence Approaches

In the current study, the efficiency of Wavelet-based Least Square Support Vector Machine （WLSSVM） model was examined for prediction of daily and monthly Suspended Sediment Load （SSL） of the Mississippi River. For this purpose, in the first step, SSL was predicted via ad hoc LSSVM and Artificial Neural Network （ANN） models; then, streamflow and SSL data were decomposed into sub- signals via wavelet, and these decomposed sub-time series were imposed to LSSVM and ANN to simulate discharge-SSL relationship. Finally, the ability of WLSSVM was compared with other models in multi- step-ahead SSL predictions. The results showed that in daily SSL prediction, LSSVM has better outcomes with Determination Coefficient （DC）=o.92 than ad hoc ANN with DC=o.88. However unlike daily SSL, in monthly modeling, ANN has a bit accurate upshot. WLSSVM and wavelet-based ANN （WANN） models showed same consequences in daily and different in monthly SSL predictions, and adding wavelet led to more accuracy of LSSVM and ANN. Furthermore, conjunction of wavelet to LSSVM and ANN evaluated via multi-step-ahead SSL predictions and, e.g., DCLssVM=0.4 was increased to the DCwLsSVM=0.71 in 7- day ahead SSL prediction. In addition, WLSSVM outperformed WANN by increment of time horizon prediction.

Hybrid denoising-jittering data processing approach to enhance sediment load prediction of muddy rivers

Successful modeling of hydroenvironmental processes widely relies on quantity and quality of accessible data,and noisy data can affect the modeling *** the other hand in training phase of any Artificial Intelligence(AI) based model,each training data set is usually a limited sample of possible patterns of the process and hence,might not show the behavior of whole ***,in the present paper,wavelet-based denoising method was used to smooth hydrological time ***,small normally distributed noises with the mean of zero and various standard deviations were generated and added to the smooth time series to form different denoised-jittered data ***,the obtained pre-processed data were imposed into Artificial Neural Network(ANN) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)models for daily runoff-sediment modeling of the Minnesota *** evaluate the modeling performance,the outcomes were compared with results of multi linear regression(MLR) and Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA)*** comparison showed that the proposed data processing approach which serves both denoising and jittering techniques could enhance the performance of ANN and ANFIS based runoffsediment modeling of the case study up to 34%and 25%in the verification phase,respectively.

Application of different clustering approaches to hydroclimatological catchment regionalization in mountainous regions, a case study in Utah State

With respect to the different hydrological responses of catchments, even the adjacent ones, in mountainous regions, there are a great number of motivations for classifying them into homogeneous clusters. These motivations include prediction in ungauged basins(PUB), model parameterization, understanding the potential impact of environmental changes, transferring information from gauged catchments to the ungauged ones. The present study investigated the similarity of catchments through the hydro-climatological pure time-series of a 14-year period from 2001 to 2015. Data sets encompass more than 13,000 month-station streamflow, rainfall, and temperature data obtained from 27 catchments in Utah State as one of the eight mountainous states of the USA. The identification, analysis, and interpretation of homogeneous catchments were investigated by applying the four approaches ofclustering, K-means, Ward, and SOM(Self-Organized Map) and a newly proposed Wavelet-Entropy-based(WE-SOM) clustering method. By using two clustering evaluation criteria, 3, 5, and 6 clusters were determined as the best numbers of clusters, depending on the method employed, where each cluster represents different hydro-climatological behaviors. Despite the absence of geographic characteristics in input data matrix, the results indicated a regionalization in agreement with topographic characteristics. Considering the dependency of the hydrological behavior of catchments on the physiographic field aspects and characteristics, WE-SOM method demonstrated a more acceptable performance, compared to the other three conventional clustering methods, by providing more clusters. WE-SOM appears to be a promising approach in catchment clustering. It preserves the topological structure of data which can, as a result, be proofed in a greater number of clusters by dividing data into higher numbers of distinct clusters withsimilar altitudes of catchments in each cluster. Glaciers in the Tianshan Mountains are an essential water resource in Central Asia,and it is necessary to identify their variations at large spatial scales with high *** combined optical and SAR images,based on several machine learning algorithms and ERA-5 land data provided by Google Earth Engine,to map and explore the glacier distribution and changes in the Tianshan in 2001,2011,and *** forest was the best performing classifier,and the overall glacier area retreat rate showed acceleration from 0.87%/a to 1.49%/a,while among the sub-regions,Dzhungarsky Alatau,Central and Northern/Western Tianshan,and Eastern Tianshan showed a slower,stable,and sharp increase rates after 2011,*** retreat was more severe in the mountain periphery,low plains and valleys,with more area lost near the glacier equilibrium *** sustained increase in summer temperatures was the primary driver of accelerated glacier *** work demonstrates the advantage and reliability of fusing multisource images to map glacier distributions with high spatial and temporal resolutions using Google Earth *** high recognition accuracy helped to conduct more accurate and time-continuous glacier change studies for the study area.

Classification and assessment of rock mass parameters in Choghart iron mine using P-wave velocity

Engineering rock mass classification,based on empirical relations between rock mass parameters and engineering applications,is commonly used in rock engineering and forms the basis for designing rock *** basic data required may be obtained from visual observation and laboratory or field ***,owing to the discontinuous and variable nature of rock masses,it is difficult for rock engineers to directly obtain the specific design parameters *** an alternative,the use of geophysical methods in geomechanics such as seismography may largely address this *** this study,25 seismic profiles with the total length of 543 m have been scanned to determine the geomechanical properties of the rock mass in blocks Ⅰ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ-2 of the Choghart iron ***,rock joint measurements and sampling for laboratory tests were *** results show that the rock mass rating（RMR） and Q values have a close relation with P-wave velocity parameters,including P-wave velocity in field(V;).P-wave velocity in the laboratory(V;) and the ratio of V;V;(i.e.K;= V;/V;.However,Q value,totally,has greater correlation coefficient and less error than the RMR,In addition,rock mass parameters including rock quality designation（RQD）,uniaxial compressive strength（UCS）,joint roughness coefficient（JRC） and Schmidt number（RN） show close relationship with P-wave *** equation based on these parameters was obtained to estimate the P-wave velocity in the rock mass with a correlation coefficient of 91%.The velocities in two orthogonal directions and the results of joint study show that the wave velocity anisotropy in rock mass may be used as an efficient tool to assess the strong and weak directions in rock mass.

Hot Deformation Characteristics of 34CrMo4 Steel

The 34CrMo4 （AISI 4130） steel is extensively utilized in the compressed natural gas cylinders. Due to the importance of thermomechanical processing in the production of these cylinders, the dynamic reerystallization （DRX） characteristics of 34CrMo4 steel were investigated. The effect of hot deformation parameters such as temperature and strain rate on the dynamic restoration processes of a 34CrMo4 alloy was studied. Hot compression tests were performed in the temperature range of 900 to 1 100 ℃ and the strain rate range of 0. 001 to 0.1 s-1. Hot workability of this alloy has been analyzed by employing flow localization parameter. The flow curves observed are typical of occurrence of dynamic recrystallization and have exhibited single or multiple peaks in flow stress curve before reaching steady state, depending on the temperature and strain rates. The flow stress decreases with the increase of deformation temperature and the decrease of strain rate. Finally the activation energy obtained in this research is 490. 749 kJ/mol.

This paper investigates the role of Fibonacci retracements levels,a popular technical analysis indicator,in predicting stock prices of leading *** companies and energy *** study methodology focuses on applying Fibonacci retracements as a system compared with the buy-and-hold *** crypto and stock prices were obtained from the Standard&Poor’s composite 1500 energy index and CoinMarketCap between November 2017 and January *** study also examined if the combined Fibonacci retracements and the price crossover strategy result in a higher return per unit of *** findings revealed that Fibonacci retracement captures energy stock price changes better than ***,most price violations were frequent during price falls compared to price increases,supporting that the Fibonacci instrument does not capture price movements during up and downtrends,***,fewer consecutive retracement breaks were observed when the price violations were examined 3 days before the current ***,the Fibonacci-based strategy resulted in higher returns relative to the naïve buy-and-hold ***,complementing Fibonacci with the price cross strategy did not improve the results and led to fewer or no trades for some *** study’s overall findings elucidate that,despite significant drops in oil prices,speculators(traders)can implement profitable strategies when using technical analysis indicators,like the Fibonacci retracement tool,with or without price crossover rules.

Infestation and pathological lesions of some lymph nodes induced by Linguatula serrata nymphs in sheep slaughtered in Shahrekord Area(Southwest Iran)

Objective: To determine the infection rates of mesenteric and mediastinal lymph nodes in relation to Linguatula serrata(L. serrata) nymphs. Methods: In the present study, mesenteric and mediastinal lymph nodes of 200 sheep with different sex and age that were slaughtered in a Shahrekord slaughterhouse were collected. The lymph nodes were examined macroscopically and for histopathological examination, tissue samples were taken from the gross lesions processed routinely by paraffin method and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Results: Out of 200 examined sheep, the mesenteric lymph nodes in 18 sheep(9%) and the mediastinal lymph nodes of 9 sheep(4.5%) were infected by L. serrata nymphs. The infection rate increased with age, but no significant difference was observed between males and females or the two types of lymph nodes(P > 0.01). Different nonspecific gross and macroscopic lesions were seen in infected lymph nodes. L. serrata nymph sections were observed in some histopathological slides. Conclusions: It is concluded that the sheep may play an important role in linguatulosis of final hosts and human beings in this region.

Operational and investment efficiency of investment trust companies:Do foreign firms outperform domestic firms?

This study examines the efficiency of investment trust companies(ITCs)from 2011 to 2020 using a meta-frontier two-stage network data envelopment analysis(DEA)based on the directional distance function(DDF).We improved the accuracy of the efficiency measurement and added a network-based ranking component to rank the topperforming *** the group-specific technology assessment,foreign ITCs excel in investment ***,in the meta-technology assessment,domestic ITCs outperform foreign ITCs in terms of both investment and operational ***-specific technology efficiency scores were found to be lower than or equal to the meta-technology efficiency scores for both the operational and investment *** on the network-based ranking approach,Yuan Ta,a domestic ITC that ranked fourth in the operational stage and first in the investment stage,can be used as a reliable *** study will enable practitioners to gain a better understanding of the performance of ITCs operating under heterogeneous technologies.
