Assessment and prioritization of soil erosion triggering factors using analytical hierarchy process and Taguchi method

The main aims of this study are assessing some factors which affect the soil erosion process and evaluating the results of an analytical hierarchy process(AHP) method using the Taguchi method. Firstly, the weights for those factors and levels affecting soil erosion were determined by the AHP method. The determination of weights was based on the opinions of academic researchers, experts, middle managers,and members of the Soil and Water Research Centers in Iran. Secondly, an L32 Taguchi orthogonal array was selected based on the number of factors and levels for the current problem. Accordingly, 32 rainfall events were simulated and sediment yield amounts were measured. Analyzing the results of the Taguchi method, the weights of factors and levels were determined. The results showed that the weights obtained from the AHP method were not in accordance with the results of field measurements and the Taguchi analysis. The AHP method indicated that the main factors have the following order of importance: geological formation, rainfall intensity, silt content of soil as an indicator for the soil texture,vegetation cover, slope steepness, and slope aspect in the study area. However, the Taguchi method found the following order for the main factors: rainfall intensity, geological formation, silt content of soil as an indicator for the soil texture, slope steepness, vegetation cover, and slope aspect. As the Taguchi method works based on the quantitative measurements, the Taguchi results are more reliable rather than subjective methods such as AHP. It was also concluded that the AHP method should be used cautiously in assessing natural phenomena. Therefore, in the cases that in situ measurements are possible, it is better to use quantitative mathematical and statistical methods than to rely to qualitative knowledge based approaches.

Using urban building energy modeling to quantify the energy performance of residential buildings under climate change

The building sector is facing a challenge in achieving carbon neutrality due to climate change and *** building energy modeling(UBEM)is an effective method to understand the energy use of building stocks at an urban scale and evaluate retrofit scenarios against future weather variations,supporting the implementation of carbon emission reduction ***,most studies focus on the energy performance of archetype buildings under climate change,which is hard to obtain refined results for individual buildings when scaling up to an urban ***,this study integrates future weather data with an UBEM approach to assess the impacts of climate change on the energy performance of urban areas,by taking two urban neighborhoods comprising 483 buildings in Geneva,Switzerland as case *** this regard,GIS datasets and Swiss building norms were collected to develop an archetype *** building heating energy consumption was calculated by the UBEM tool—AutoBPS,which was then calibrated against annual metered data.A rapid UBEM calibration method was applied to achieve a percentage error of 2.7%.The calibrated models were then used to assess the impacts of climate change using four future weather datasets out of Shared Socioeconomic Pathways(SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0,and SSP5-8.5).The results showed a decrease of 22%–31%and 21%–29%for heating energy consumption,an increase of 113%–173%and 95%–144%for cooling energy consumption in the two neighborhoods by *** average annual heating intensity dropped from 81 kWh/m^(2) in the current typical climate to 57 kWh/m^(2) in the SSP5-8.5,while the cooling intensity rose from 12 kWh/m^(2) to 32 kWh/m^(2).The overall envelope system upgrade reduced the average heating and cooling energy consumption by 41.7%and 18.6%,respectively,in the SSP *** spatial and temporal distribution of energy consumption change can provide valuable information for future urban energy planning against climate cha

This study assessed the influence of occupational stress,individual resilience,and organizational resilience on the safety performance of healthcare providers during the COVID-19 *** variables including age,work experience,and gender were *** were collected from 344 healthcare providers employed at a teaching *** entropy method and the multi-criteria decision-making(MCDM)method were used to examine the influence of occupational stress,individual resilience,and organizational resilience on the safe performance of healthcare *** results of the entropy method showed that organizational resilience was the most influential factor in the safe performance of older healthcare *** contrast,individual resilience was the most significant factor in enhancing the safety performance of younger healthcare *** of work experience indicated that individual resilience was the most influential factor in the safe performance of less experienced healthcare ***-based analysis revealed that individual resilience had a major effect on the safety performance of both women and *** findings of this study could assist managers in improving the performance of the healthcare sector during pandemics by using and implementing resilience concepts at both the individual and organizational levels.

Presentation of machine learning methods to determine the most important factors affecting road traffic accidents on rural roads

The purpose of this research was to develop statistical and intelligent models for predicting the severity of road traffic accidents(RTAs)on rural *** Logistic Regression(MLR)was used to predict the likelihood of *** more accurate prediction,Multi-Layer Perceptron(MLP)and Radius Basis Function(RBF)neural networks were *** indicated that in MLR,the model obtained from the backward method with the correct percent of 84.7%and R2 value of 0.893 was the best method for predicting the likelihood of ***,MLR showed that the variables of not paying attention to the front not paying attention to the frontroad ahead,followed byand then vehicle-motorcycle/bike accidents were the greatest *** the models,MLP had a better performance,so that the prediction accuracy of MLR,MLP,and RBF were 84.7%,96.7%,and 92.1%,*** model,due to higher accuracy,showed that the variable of reason of accident had the highest effect on the prediction of accidents,and considering MLR results,the variables of not paying attention to the front and then vehicle-motorcycle/bike accidents had the most influence on the occurrence of ***,motorcyclists and cyclists are more prone to accidents,and appropriate solutions should be adopted to enhance their safety.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by monkeypox virus(MPXV).MPXV is a double-stranded DNA virus from the genus Orthopoxvirus that was firstly detected in captive monkeys in 1958[1],with first reported MPXV infected case in humans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in *** zoonotic infection has since spread and become endemic in African countries,especially in West and Central Africa[2].Human monkeypox cases were detected outside Africa in 2003,however,recent cases have not been reported in non-endemic countries until 2022[3].

Microstructures, mechanical properties, corrosion, and biocompatibility of extruded Mg-Zr-Sr-Ho alloys for biodegradable implant applications

In this study,the microstructures,mechanical properties,corrosion behaviors,and biocompatibility of extruded magnesium-zirconiumstrontium-holmium(Mg-Zr-Sr-Ho)alloys were comprehensively *** effect of different concentrations of Ho on the microstructural characteristics,tensile and compressive properties,corrosion resistance,and biocompatibility were *** microstructures of the extruded Mg-1Zr-0.5Sr-xHo(x=0.5,1.5,and 4 wt.%)alloys consisted ofα-Mg matrix,fineα-Zr particles,and intermetallic phase particles of Mg_(17)Sr_(2) and Ho_(2)Mg mainly distributed at the grain ***{1012}tensile twins were observed in the partially recrystallized samples of Mg-1Zr-0.5Sr-0.5Ho and *** addition of Ho to 4 wt.%resulted in a complete recrystallization due to activation of the particle stimulated nucleation around the Mg_(17)Sr_(2) *** evolution of a rare earth(RE)texture was observed with the Ho addition,which resulted in the weakened basal and prismatic ***,a drastic increase of 200%in tensile elongation and 89%in compressive strain was observed with Ho addition increased from 0.5 to 4 wt%,*** tension-compression yield asymmetry was significantly decreased from 0.62 for Mg-1Zr-0.5Sr-0.5Ho to 0.98 for Mg-1Zr-0.5Sr-4Ho due to the weakening of *** analysis of the extruded Mg-Zr-Sr-Ho alloys revealed the presence of pitting corrosion.A minimum corrosion rate of 4.98 mm y^(−1) was observed in Mg-1Zr-0.5Sr-0.5Ho *** enhanced corrosion resistance is observed due to the presence of Ho_(2)O_(3) in the surface film which reduced galvanic *** formation of a stabilized surface film due to the Ho_(2)O_(3) was confirmed through the electrical impedance spectroscopy and XPS *** in vitro cytotoxicity assessment revealed good biocompatibility and cell adhesion in relation to SaOS2 cells.

Mangrove forests are valuable resources in tropical and subtropical regions,which have been faced dieback due to various human activities including rapid expansion of shrimp farming,urban development,and pollution,as well as natural factors such as rising sea level,increasing air temperature,drought,and sharp decrease in ***,the mechanisms of dieback of mangrove forests are not well ***,this research aimed to assess the vegetative,chemical,and physiological status of grey mangrove(Avicennia marina(Forsk.)Vierh.)forests at different intensities of dieback in the Hormozgan Province,Iran.A total of 40 plots categorized into four dieback intensities(severe,medium,low,and control)were randomly selected for monitoring,and various parameters related to vegetative,chemical,and physiological status of grey mangrove forests were *** results revealed that the control group had the highest tree density,seedling density,vitality levels,aerial root density,and aerial root ***,as dieback severity increased,a decrease in demographic and vegetative parameters of trees and seedlings was observed in the dieback *** amounts of heavy metals(lead,cadmium,and nickel)in the sediment,roots,and leaves of grey mangrove trees at different dieback levels indicated that lead levels were the highest in the sediment,roots,and leaves in the severe dieback *** the same time,the control had the lowest *** concentrations in the sediment followed the pattern of severe dieback>moderate dieback>low dieback>control with no significant differences in the roots and *** amounts in all three parts,i.e.,sediment,roots,and leaves showed the highest levels in the severe dieback ***,metal level analysis in the organs of grey mangrove trees at different dieback levels revealed that lead and nickel were more abundant in the root organ compared with the *** contrast,the leaf organ exhibited the highes

Presentation of regression analysis,GP and GMDH models to predict the pedestrian density in various urban facilities

In this study,the relationship between space mean speed(SMS),flow rate and density of pedestrians was investigated in different pedestrian facilities,including 1 walkway,2 sidewalks,2 signalized crosswalks and 2 mid-block ***,statistical analysis was performed to investigate the normality of data and correlation of *** analysis was then applied to determine the relationship between SMS,flow rate,and density of ***,two prediction models of density were obtained using genetic programming(GP)and group method of data handling(GMDH)models,and k-fold and holdout cross-validation methods were used to evaluate the *** the use of regression analysis,the mathematical relationships between variables in all facilities were calculated and plotted,and the best relationships were observed in flow rate-density *** also indicated that GP had a higher R2 than GMDH in the prediction of pedestrian density in terms of flow rate and SMS,suggesting that GP was better able to model SMS and pedestrian ***,the application of k-fold cross-validation method in the models led to better performances compared to the holdout cross-validation method,which shows that the prediction models using k-fold were more ***,density relationships in all facilities were obtained in terms of SMS and flow rate.
