AIM:To evaluate relationship between ocular pseudoex-foliation syndrom(PXF) and sensory-neural hearing loss(SNHL).· METHODS:This prospective case-control study was designed on patients who referred to a general ophthalmic clinic at Imam Khomeini Medical Center,Urmia,Iran(March 2010 through November 2010).On routine ophthalmic examination,patients diagnosed with ocular PXF were referred to the ENT department and,selected cases(after evaluating inclusion and exclusion criteria) were referred to Audiometric *** tone hearing threshold level(HTL) was measured at 1,2,3 kHz for each ear and was compared with International Standard(ISO 7029) median age associated hearing loss at 1,2,3 kHz(AAHL).· RESULTS:Overall 21 of 50 patients(42.0%) had a higher HTL than the ISO 7029 median AAHL at 1,2 and 3kHz,which included 14 ears of 23 patients in the male group(30.4%) and 21 ears of 27 patients in the female group(38.8%).Approximately 12.0% of patients had glaucoma at the same time,however;no significant correlation was found in SNHL prevalence and severity between PXF patient and patients with simultaneous *** was more common in patients with ocular PXF compared to their age-sex matched controls(P <0.05).· CONCLUSION:Most of patients with ocular PXF had SNHL compared to their age-sex matched controls,which could be due to PXF fibrils in the inner *** findings suggest PXF could be a systemic disease.·

This study unfolds an innovative approach aiming to address the critical role of building design in global energy consumption, focusing on optimizing the Window-to-Wall Ratio (WWR), since buildings account for approximately 30% of total energy consumed worldwide. The greatest contributors to energy expenditure in buildings are internal artificial lighting and heating and cooling systems. The WWR, determined by the proportion of the building’s glazed area to its wall area, is a significant factor influencing energy efficiency and minimizing energy load. This study introduces the development of a semi-automated computer model designed to offer a real-time, interactive simulation environment, fostering improving communication and engagement between designers and owners. The said model serves to optimize both the WWR and building orientation to align with occupants’ needs and expectations, subsequently reducing annual energy consumption and enhancing the overall building energy performance. The integrated model incorporates Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Reality (VR), and Energy Analysis tools deployed at the conceptual design stage, allowing for the amalgamation of owners’ inputs in the design process and facilitating the creation of more realistic and effective design strategies.

Objectives： Trauma is among the leading causes of death. Medical management of blunt abdominal trauma （BAT） relies on judging patients for whom laparotomy is mandatory. This study aimed to determine BAT patients＇ signs, as well as paraclinical data, and to clarify the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of clinical abdominal scoring system （CASS）, a new scoring system based on clinical signs, in predicting whether a BAT patient needs laparotomy or not. Methods： Totally 400 patients suspected of BAT that arrived at the emergency department of two university hospitals in Tehran from March 20, 2007 to March 19, 2009 were included in this study. They were evaluated for age, sex, type of trauma, systolic blood pressure, Glasgow coma scale （GCS）, pulse rate, time of presentation after trauma, abdomial clinical findings, respiratory rate, temperature, hemoglobin （Hb） concentration, focused abdominal sonography in trauma （FAST） and CASS. Results： Our measurements showed that CASS had an accuracy of 94%, sensitivity of 100%, specificity of 88%, positive predictive value of 90% and negative predictive value of 100% in determining the necessity of laparotomy in BAT patients. Moreover, in our analysis, systolic blood pressure, GCS, pulse rate, Hb concentration, time of presentation after trauma, abdominal clinical findings and FAST were also shown to be helpful in confirming the need for laparotomy （P〈0.05）. Conclusion： CASS is a promising scoring system in rapid detection of the need for laparotomy as well as in minimizing auxiliary expense for further evaluation in BAT patients, thus to promote the cost-benefit ratio and accuracy of diagnosis.

A projection of the Canadian population shows that in 2024 one in five Canadians will be over 65 years old. This shift forces designers to consider the entire lifetime of occupants during the design of new buildings. Universal Design (UD), which is a design that accommodates all people to the greatest extent possible and aging in place design that is deeply rooted in the principles of UD, aim to house people irrespective of their age, ability, and chronic health conditions. Building Information Modeling (BIM) significantly helps advance the development of the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry in a more collaborative and automated way. Integrating BIM and UD allows designers to incorporate UD standards easily and efficiently at the conceptual design stage of buildings by using the functionalities and capabilities of BIM tools. Therefore, this study presents the development of an automated computer model to facilitate the adoption of UD standards and processes. The novelty highlighted in this model resides in the creation of an automated method that employs a newly created plug-in and databases to assist designers to incorporate UD standards at the conceptual stage in a timely and cost-effective manner. Furthermore, the study introduces the methodology consisting of collecting, categorizing, and storing data from various universal design and accessible design guidelines in the developed databases and developing new plug-ins in BIM tool to link the developed databases in order to automate the process of retrieving necessary information and components to help designers and owners select optimal design alternatives based on their predefined criteria.

Objective： To compare fatalities and injuries in road traffic crashes （RTC） in Iran with other countries. Methods： Data were obtained from national health sources of Iran. These data included population number, registered motor-vehicles number, number of RTCs and consequent fatalities and injuries from 1997 to 2006. Results： RTC fatality and injury rates increased from 1997 to 2005, but decreased in 2006. The overall men/women ratio in the RTC fatalities was 4.2：1. High RTC fatality rate of 39 per 100 000 population in Iran was almost the same as some other developing countries. In Iran, RTC fatalities in recent years were almost twice as much as the highest rate among the European countries. Conclusions： This investigation shows that in spite of reduction of RTC fatality in Iran in 2006, it is still one of the highest in the world. Moreover, this paper describes the state of RTC-related parameters in a developing country in comparison with the developed countries.

目的:评估左氧氟沙星滴眼液入眼通透性。采用高效液相色谱法(HPLC)测定33例白内障手术患者房水中左氧氟沙星滴眼液的浓度。方法:共33例接受超声乳化术的患者,术前、术后3d均使用左氧氟沙星点眼,每6h滴1滴,术前1h停止给药。采用HPLC和荧光检测器测定左氧氟沙星在房水中的浓度。结果:采用HPLC测定房水中左氧氟沙星含量,验证了该方法简便、有效、灵敏。左氧氟沙星浓度在1.95×10-3-1.50μg/mL的范围内呈线性关系,在房水中平均含量为0.3399±0.03405μg/mL。结论:本研究结果显示,白内障术前常规剂量(每6h滴1滴)0.5%左氧氟沙星不会引发急性细菌性眼内炎。
