Assessing the publication output in the field of forensic science and legal medicine using Web of Science database from 2011 to 2020

The aim of this study was threefold.First,it analyzed the characteristics of the publication outputs for the Legal Medicine(LM)category using the Web of Science(WoS)database during 2011-2020.Second,it discussed the distribution of the papers for the 25 most productive countries/regions in terms of quality and quantity,such as the h-index and GDP per capita.Finally,it investigated the trend and temporal stability of the journal impact factor(JIF)and determined the percentage of the journal self-citations.The findings suggested that the number of papers,the average number of pages of the papers,the average number of cited references in the papers,the average number of authors per paper,the percentage of open access papers,as well as international and domestic collaboration tended to increase regularly.However,the productivity was limited when compared to the whole WoS database,since there was no significant change in the number of the journals.The countries/regions with the highest number of publications were not those that made the most impact in terms of the widespread impact of the publications.The level of international cooperation and the funding for the research had dramatic impact on the visibility of papers.The average JIF has increased significantly while the journal self-citation rates have decreased in a similar way.The journals have had very stable(have not fluctuated)impact factors over time.During the period studied,the journals with the higher impact factors(Q1,Q2)published many more papers than journals with the lower impact factors(Q3,Q4).

Changes in carbon stocks of soil and forest floor in black pine plantations in Turkey

The objectives of this study were:(1)to determine carbon stock changes in the soil and forest floor of black pine(Pinus nigra subsp.pallasiana)plantations in Turkey;(2)to determine the effects of thinning on annual carbon accumulation in both;and,(3)to investigate relationships between annual carbon storage in soil and forest floor and stand characteristics of black pine.Samples were taken in 90 plots from stands at the pole(dbh=11.0–19.9 cm)and sawlog(dbh=20.0–35.9 cm)stages.Carbon analyses of soil and forest floor samples showed that in unthinned plantations signifi cant organic carbon was sequestered an average of 1.47 Mg ha^−1 a^−1 in the soil and 0.20 Mg ha^−1 a^−1 in the forest floor.Organic carbon sequestered annually in the soil was signifi cantly lower in thinned than in unthinned stands,while diff erences in the forest floor were insignifi cant.There were positive correlations between carbon sequestered in the soil and stand age,average DBH,mean stand height,basal area,and site index.Carbon sequestered the forest floor increased with basal area.As a result,carbon sequestered in the soil should not be ignored in greenhouse gas inventories because carbon stored belowground was approximately 70%of the aboveground pool.

High resistance rates to antimicrobials continue to be a global health threat.The incidence of multidrug-resistant(MDR)microorganisms in intensive care units(ICUs)is quite high compared to in the community and other unitsin the hospital because ICU patients are generally older,have higher numbers of co-morbidities and immunesuppressed;moreover,the typically high rates of invasive procedures performed in the ICU increase the risk ofinfection by MDR microorganisms.Antimicrobial stewardship(AMS)refers to the implementation of coordinatedinterventions to improve and track the appropriate use of antibiotics while offering the best possible antibioticprescription(according to dose,duration,and route of administration).Broad-spectrum antibiotics are frequentlypreferred in ICUs because of greater infection severity and colonization and infection by MDR microorganisms.For this reason,a number of studies on AMS in ICUs have increased in recent years.Reducing the use of broadspectrum antibiotics forms the basis of AMS.For this purpose,parameters such as establishing an AMS team,limiting the use of broad-spectrum antimicrobials,terminating treatments early,using early warning systems,pursuing infection control,and providing education and feedback are used.In this review,current AMS practicesin ICUs are discussed.

Effect of dysprosium substitution on magnetic and structural properties of NiFe2O4 nanoparticles

This work investigated the effect of dysprosium(Dy)ions on the structural,microstructural and magnetic properties of nickel nanospinelferrite,NiFe2 O4.The nanoparticles(NPs)of NiDyxFe(2-x)O4(0.0≤x≤0.1)were prepared via the hydrothermal method.The formation of cubic phase of Ni nanoferrite was confirmed through X-ray diffraction,field emission scanning and transmission electron microscopy.Moreover,the magnetic properties of NiDyxFe(2-x)P4(0.01≤x≤0.10)NPs were discussed.The magnetization versus field,M(H)curves exhibit super paramagnetic nature at room temperature and ferrimagnetic nature at low temperature(10 K).A noticeable improvement in the different deduced magnetic parameters is obtained especially for the NiDy(0.07)Fe(1.93)O4(x=0.07)product.The obtained result is mostly derived from the substitution of Fe^3+ions of smaller ionic radii with Dy^3+ions of larger ionic radii that will strengthen the super exchange interactions among nanoparticles.The calculated squareness ratios are found to be much less than 0.5,due to the effect of spin disorder in the surface regions of NiDyxFe(2-x)O4(0.01≤x≤0.10)NPs.The Dy^3+ions substitution increases the magnetic hardness(higher values of remanence Mr,coercivity Hc,and magnetic moment nB)of nickel nanoferrite samples.

Diameter distributions in Pinus sylvestris L.stands:evaluating modelling approaches including a machine learning technique

The diameter distribution of trees in a stand provides the basis for determining the stand’s ecological and economic value,its structure and stability and appropriate management practices.Scots pine(Pinus sylvestris L.)is one of the most common and important conifers in Turkey,so a well-planned management schedule is critical.Diameter distribution models to accurately describe the stand structure help improve management strategies,but developing reliable models requires a deep understanding of the growth,output and constraints of the forests.The most important information derived by diameter distribution models is primary data on horizontal stand structure for each diameter class of trees:basal area and volume per unit area.These predictions are required to estimate the range of products and predicted volume and yield from a forest stand.Here,to construct an accurate,reliable diameter distribution model for natural Scots pine stands in the Türkmen Mountain region,we used Johnson’s SBdistribution to represent the empirical diameter distributions of the stands using ground-based measurements from 55 sample plots that included1219 trees in natural distribution zones of the forests.As an alternative,nonparametric approach,which does not require any predefined function,an artificial intelligence model was constructed based on support vector machine methodology.An error index was calculated to evaluate the results.Overall,both Johnson’s SB probability density function with a three-parameter recovery approach and the support vector regression methodology provided reliable estimates of the diameter distribution of these stands.

Current and efficiency of Brownian particles under oscillating forces in entropic barriers

In this study, considering the temporarily unbiased force and different forms of oscillating forces, we investigate the current and efficiency of Brownian particles in an entropic tube structure and present the numerically obtained results. We show that different force forms give rise to different current and efficiency profiles in different optimized parameter intervals. We find that an unbiased oscillating force and an unbiased temporal force lead to the current and efficiency, which are dependent on these parameters. We also observe that the current and efficiency caused by temporal and different oscillating forces have maximum and minimum values in different parameter intervals. We conclude that the current or efficiency can be controlled dynamically by adjusting the parameters of entropic barriers and applied force.

The term structure of Sharpe ratios and arbitragefree asset pricing in continuous time

Motivated by financial and empirical arguments and in order to introduce a more flexible methodology of pricing,we provide a new approach to asset pricing based on Backward Volterra equations.The approach relies on an arbitrage-free and incomplete market setting in continuous time by choosing non-unique pricing measures depending either on the time of evaluation or on the maturity of payoffs.We show that in the latter case the dynamics can be captured by a time-delayed backward stochastic Volterra integral equation here introduced which,to the best of our knowledge,has not yet been studied.We then prove an existence and uniqueness result for time-delayed backward stochastic Volterra integral equations.Finally,we present a Lucas-type consumption-based asset pricing model that justifies the emergence of stochastic discount factors matching the term structure of Sharpe ratios.
